It's Only the End if You Want it to Be

I don’t “always” point out that I don’t like it. I’ve made, like, a grand total of three posts about it. And considering how many obnoxious posts I see about how it was the most brilliant thing ever and people who don’t like it Just Don’t Understand, I’ve been pretty good about being quiet. 

You make it sound like I’m constantly posting about how much I hated BvS, which I don’t. But… guess what? Even if I did, I WOULDN’T BE DOING ANYTHING WRONG. It’s my blog. It is literally THERE for me to post my opinions on things, and sometimes those opinions will be negative. My followers have every right to disagree with those opinions, as do other tumblr users. But unless the opinions are offensive (and disliking a movie other people liked is not), you have no right to come here and criticize me for it. I’m not hijacking BvS positivity posts. I’m not putting hate in the BvS tags. If I make a post that mentions not liking BvS and someone who liked the movie happens to see it, that’s not somehow a wrong I’ve done you. I mentioned not liking a movie in a post. Someone reblogged that post. You saw it and disagreed with my opinion of the movie. No one did anything wrong here? Sometimes people are just gonna have opinions you don’t agree with.

And oh my god, my dear child. Here is what I find hilarious.

How does not liking one movie somehow equal hating “everything” to be “tumblr edgy” (whatever that means)? My blog is, quite literally, FILLED with posts about the numerous books, movies, comics, and TV shows that I love. There are some negative posts and rants, yes. But it’s vastly outweighed by me squeeing and fangirling over things I love. I LIKE being positive about things. I like being able to enjoy them and gush over them. If BvS had been good, I would have happily gushed and fangirled over it, too.

So clearly, I do not “hate everything to be cool”. You could argue that I only hate popular things to be cool, but you would still run into a problem, because if so I should also have hated Captain America: The Winter Soldier, and The Force Awakens, and Hamilton, and numerous other movies and shows that are both popular on tumblr and absolute favorites of mine. 

And so, sadly, we come to the truth: I don’t hate everything. I don’t hate popular things. I just really, really hate Batman v Superman. (I would have phrased that more diplomatically, but frankly, people like you are doing nothing to make me like it more.)

But let’s turn this around on you, anon: Why would you immediately jump to the conclusion that someone who dislikes a thing that you liked must hate everything? And that instead of having legitimate reasons for their dislike, they must just be “hating everything to be cool” because it’s “tumblr edgy”?

Are you that desperate to find a strawman to knock down? Does there need to be some grand conspiracy theory at play every time someone disagrees with you?

Or could it just be that, sometimes, people are going to watch movies and come away with a different impression than you did?
