People accusing Christopher Nolan of making The Odyssey āwokeā for including an actor like Elliot Page is very telling to me, because at no point in the film is Pageās character stated to be trans in-universe. We see flashbacks of his character as a child and by all accounts, Sinon is meant to have been a cis boy in the narrative of the film.
Which makes it clear that detractors arenāt upset at the idea of Nolan including a trans character in the filmāhe didnātābut that theyāre upset at the idea of a trans person existing in real life.
