Shout-out to neurodivergent people who never did good in school.
Shout-out to neurodivergent people who have felt stupid and inferior intellectually.
Shout-out to the neurodivergent people who were in support classes for the kids falling behind.
Shout-out to the neurodivergent people who were in separate programs, classes or schools designed for kids with learning disabilities.
Shout-out to the neurodivergent people who got held back a grade or failed out of classes.
Shout-out to the neurodivergent people who didn't enjoy or even successfully read books because they were too difficult.
You often hear that it's a "universal neurodivergent experience" to be formally gifted or super bookish as a kid, but that wasn't the case for everyone. A lot of us did poorly in school because of our neurodivergence. We never got the chance to feel smart or gifted. And speaking for myself it was really disheartening to feel unintelligent and weird my entire school career, only to try to connect with other neurodivergent people online when I got older and still feeling unintelligent and weird comparatively. So this one is specifically for those of us whose neurodivergence always made school hard, we are just as much a part of the community as anyone else.
This energy though
The amount of transphobes that just don't know anything about swords or fencing is fucking killing me. Firstly, alot of fencing competitions are gender neutral. Secondly even if someone who did have a massive strength advantage entered a fencing competition that still wouldn't help them too much because a duel with swords is very rarely decided on strength. It doesn't matter how strong you are, if your opponent hits you that's a point for them. Fencing is won entirely by fucking knowing how to fence, shockingly.
Also, anybody commenting "Why is her hair greasy. She needs to wash her hair" needs to step outside the house like atleast once in their life. Girl just won a fencing competition and she was wearing one of these 👇 the whole time
SHE WAS FUCKING SWEATY

It’s important to know that hijab is banned in schools in most of the european countries, such as france, belgium, switzerland etc. Millions of girls have to take their hijab off everyday in order to have access to education, and I am one of them. Please spread this as much as possible, it has become so normal here that I feel like a fool for even mentioning it, but I’m pretty sure it goes against the human rights. This senseless law has been on since 2004 and pretends that all the students have to be “equal” and it is prohibited to show that you belong to any religion, any religious sign must be set aside. However, most of us have to take our hijab off in schools where you can clearly see a christmas tree or a christian cross. “Yeah but it’s not the same”, they say. Tell me about double standards. I pray for days when we don’t have to chose between religion and education.
This, but don’t read the notes. It’s all just French people and/or Catholics going “I’m totally not racist or antisemitic, it’s just that I think that Xmas, a holiday celebrating the birth of Jesus, is secular, whereas a Muslim or Jew wearing a hijab or kippah is somehow forcing their religion on me by existing in public.” LOL
thank you for the warning because i have no energy to deal with islamophobia today, and YES. THIS. ALL OF IT. not to mention that a cross is something you can easily tuck under a shirt if necessary without compromising your values, whereas a muslim woman having to choose between her hijab and education (who will not be faulted for taking it off in the eyes of Allah SWT) absolutely is compromising her values. it’s disgusting
france, switzerland, belgium, quebec: do better. all of you
Writing tips:
“You feel the bulge in his pants” - implies that you are feeling some guy’s penis, may be sexy depending on context
“You feel the bugle in his pants” - implies that this guy has a military horn in his pants, invites confusing questions like why does he have that and how big are his pockets
Both options convey that he's horny
How dare you be funnier than me on my own post
Or your 40s or 50s or 60s (in my friend's case), etc.
Like, ideally, yes, the earlier the better but also if you don't recognize the loop until later in life, it's not too late to start rebuilding.
Not to be rhe ten millionth person to say “USAmerican President Donald Trump Is An Incoherent Public Speaker Whose Train Of Thought Can Be Best Described As Scat Jazz” but I just remembered that when he talks at international events it is several dozen people’s job to translate what he’s saying and what he intends to say to world leaders in real time
And I desperately wish to hear how they do it
If anyone reading this isn’t fluent enough in English to understand the sentences that man says, please know that he has essentially mixed a number of adjectives and topics together in a hat and is pulling them out at random like a horrible children’s game
Like that waxy jaundiced bitch will straight up be like “J'étais sur internet l'autre jour – internet, la plus grande invention américaine. Et la Chine a “internet aussi. Pas un bon internet, pas comme le mien, j'ai un internet formidable. Les gens me disent : « Donald, ton internet est génial ! » On adore l'internet de Donald. Mais la Chine… Chine, Chine, Chine… And people will lose their minds
International translators have had this problem for A While - if they *don't* clean up what he says to sound coherent, they look like they're doing a bad job.
Explore Trump translation challenges, tips for interpreters, and 2025 strategies for accurate political translation and Trumpslation success
oh my god
There was a scandal in Poland because one translator decided to translate him accurately, tone, vocabulary level and word salad tangents and all. Polish conservatives who don't speak English and previously only heard smoothed out translations that sounded coherent and used big words were up in arms about how the translator was "inserting her political agenda", "mocking him", "exaggerating", "purposefully trying to make him look bad" and "incredibly unprofessional". I listened to the translation in question. It was literally just accurate.
5. Sensitive and Controversial Language Trump’s speeches occasionally contain misogynistic, sexist, or inflammatory language. Japanese interpreter Tsuruta, for example, faced challenges when translating sexualized remarks, ultimately opting for standard terminology to maintain professionalism. Similarly, Chinese translator Kumiko Torikai found certain lewd expressions ethically challenging, ultimately leading to her retirement. Navigating these situations requires skillful balancing of accuracy, professionalism, and cultural sensitivity, ensuring that the translation is appropriate without distorting the original intent.
I don't know why the authors of PoliLingua act as if Trump's verbal misogyny and racism wasn't very much part of his "original intent".
it only now dawns on me that millions of people on this planet think Trump is way smarter than he is because translators have neglected to relate his violent speech accurately out of misunderstood politeness. Make the ape sound like a ape
Common bottlenose dolphin Tursiops truncatus
Observed by cetaceannerd, CC BY-NC
Patches! He's such a cool guy. There is still quite strong debate regarding the underlying cause of his white patches. Many say they are purely genetic markings (ie unchanging markings he has always had), however I personally have always believed it is more like a genetic mutation that prevents recolouration of scar tissue. Normally Bottlenose dolphins' skin has very good recolouration properties. Even with more serious scratches or deeper wounds, the damaged tissue regains colour so when healed, the original wound is hardly visible. It can only be felt, and a scar line seen in close up. However there are cetacean species, like the Risso's dolphin and many beaked whales, where scratches quite explicitly do not recolour. On the contrary, the smallest blemish remains a stark, pure white. In these species the tally of scratches seems to serve a social function. I wonder if Patches carries a mutation that causes something similar to happen with him. Most of his white patches seem to have the shape of rake marks, and the others (like on his dorsal fin, around his mouth and on his melon) are places where dolphins often sustain damage either from feeding or raking/social interaction.
At the same time, I have compared photos of Patches between 2008 and 2020, and he does not seem to gain many new white patches. The only ones I could quickly find when reviewing them just now are a scratch on the right side of his dorsal fin and a white spot beneath it. It seems unlikely a bottlenose dolphin would go for years without being raked more. And indeed, on some recent photos you can see rakes on him that have clearly not turned white. A very, very interesting individual!

For a more illustrative example, say you go to the movies with a friend and you buy them popcorn, do you expect them at some point to send you money back via cash or through an app of some kind? Will you be upset if they don’t?

My Father Was a Good Man is a comic I wrote in 2023 that you can now read online or buy physically. Many of you may have seen it described as a horror story involving a wolf, but at its heart it's a story about domestic violence. I wanted to take a moment to speak about that more earnestly.
Many immigrant children grow up believing the abuse they experience at home is normal. Laughing off being hit with a shoe or beaten for poor grades as if it were simply part of life. This comic is about reckoning with those quiet, everyday horrors, and how sometimes the worst acts of violence come from those closest to us.
If you have ever struggled at home, I hope this work reaches you. I hope it lightens a memory you’ve carried alone for too long. I wrote this story about a specific time in my life when I was 16. I am 29 now, and with time and effort, things have turned out alright.
Stay safe out there,
Adeline Kon
