A firm hand engulfs Leonard's shoulder. Mr. Harigali is at his side, far closer than he'd been the last time he had Leonard's attention. Cold eyes bore into him, and though it's probably meant to be reassuring, Harigali's smile makes his skin crawl.

"How would you like to become a permanent resident here? I think you'd fit right in with the denizens of Hallowground."

A bead of sweat rolls down Leonard's back. Despite his damp skin, his throat is bone dry when he tries to speak. "Oh! Gosh, t-that's very kind of you, b-b-but I would hate to impose."

He wrings his hands and mentally congratulates himself on successfully sidestepping the offer, but Harigali waves off his concern.

"Not an imposition at all, my friend. In fact..." his grip tightens, smile spreading to reveal even more of the pointed teeth that Leonard is pretty sure humans aren't supposed to have. "It would be rather cruel of me to turn you loose after showing you everything our little town has to offer. Wouldn't you say?"

Mr. Harigali looks out across the cluster of makeshift homes and urges Leonard to do the same. Human-shaped beings of all kinds mill about, making casual conversation or helping their neighbors with chores. "Here we're safe, we're happy, we look out for each other. Out there, well…"

Leonard glances back just in time to watch the enormous man's smile drop.

"There's no end to the horrible things people would do to uncover whatever secrets you may hold."

He suppresses a shiver.
