Allison Argent:

Fandom hated Allison and made #KillAllison trend on Twitter for…reasons? I think they were mad she got indoctrinated by her parents briefly? Who knows.

Allison grew up with parents who hated werewolves and hunted them but she turned their code around and used it to protect people and fell in love with a werewolf.

i'll be honest all my friends in high school said she was annoying which is not really a fandom wide event. however i believe she is a worthy candidate as a main character turned fridged woman

Hayley Marshall:

People in the fandom literally talk about her as though she were just a vessel to give Klaus a baby. There’s legitimate things to criticize her for but in my experience it boils down to how dare she have the audacity to question Klaus the King of New Orleans.

I’m not even into this fandom anymore but the levels of misogyny fans direct at her is disgusting. She did a pretty good job of balancing being a good mom to Hope and holding the Mikaelson’s to some standards of decency. Not a perfect person but I usually don’t see complaints that aren’t misogynistic in nature.

Regina Mills:

The literal embodiment of evil is a man and is forgiven as soon as he says “I’m good now” even though he could see the future and manipulated her mom to be able to manipulate her enough to cast a curse, but she’s an awful person/mother when she’s basically sacrificed her life for her kid and he let his fall into a portal. I could go on.

See above - the embodiment of evil had to manipulate two generations to hurt her enough to cast the curse. She has a massive heart and has been abused her entire life. She needs a hug, cocoa, and some good therapy.

Fans hate on Regina, a Latina woman of color, for things they give the white and male characters a pass for. Fans threw tantrums whenever the 'hero' characters forgave or befriended her and insisted she should apologize to them more (when she already did and saved their lives many times over) and be deferential to the (white) characters instead of being such a 'bitch' who dares to be angry and upset about the bad things that happen to her. Fans refuse to engage with her backstory as a victim of forced marriage and insist to this day that her killing her abusive husband was wrong and a murder "in cold blood." Fans downplay her role as the co-protagonist of the show and whine when she gets focus. Fans call her an abusive mother even though she was actually a very good mother who just made a few mistakes and downplay her connection to her adopted son as less 'real' than his biological family's connection to him. But fundamentally what fandom most hates about her is that she got the redemption arc and narrative focus reserved for the Spikes and Zukos and Anakins of the world while being a woman of color.

Tamala:

Tamala is the ex of a popular male character. She states that she broke the relationship off because he wanted something serious and she was just looking for a fling. They both say mean things about each other (nothing crazy. Just regular ex stuff). She is accused of grooming the male character even though he initiated the relationship. She’s called a pedophile even though he was an adult when they met. She’s called toxic and “trailer trash Tammy”. She is called gross and dirty because she flirts with the player character (even though another male character who flirts with the character is considered a fandom favorite).

Tamala is the victim of a government sanctioned cult she was drafted into as a child and she escaped and actively works against them. She’s a powerful magic user in a world where that’s illegal and regularly uses those talents to help other characters (especially an orphaned child). She’s clever and knows what she wants and isn’t afraid to go after it. She’s deep and doesn’t seek validation from anyone because she knows her worth. Plus she’s hot as hell.

Max:

Ignored in favour of male protagonists despite having one of the most interesting arc. Being stripped of nuances in analysis. Being reduced to a girlboss who "climbed the social ladder" which isn't inaccurate, but her characters and her motivation are way more complex. She is not that much hated on Tumblr anymore (she was back then when it aired), in fact I think she is now one if not the most loved female character in this fandom, but she is often mischaracterized or ignored in favour of others characters, because her story doesn't interwine at all with the one of Flint (main character and a gay man) especially on Reddit. Which is a pity because she is probably the most rich and complete character after Flint himself. Ah! Both her love interests through the show are white women who are bisexual or went through comphet before meeting her, and before had been in relationship with two of the men who are fandom favourite. So Max, an openly gay black woman, got accused in the early days of fandom of manipulating these women, especially the second one, Anne Bonny, with whom she had a very depht and loving ans touching relationship, and "stealing" them from "theirs men" who were beloved by the fandom. Icks. Today, the fact that (in a show like Black Sails that is a lot about queerness) Max is the only character who is openly gay and proud and doesn't hides this fact from others (nor when she is a poor prostitute, nor when she is the de facto queen of the island) is not discussed enough in analysis of the queer themes of the show. The fact that she was being born into slavery by an enslaved mother who was raped and from what we know she had probably a very difficult and traumatic childhood is also not taken into consideration when analyzing Max's motivations and (sometimes, to our eyes, surprising) survival strategies. It is almost taboo even now in fandom to admit that another beloved character, who also had a past and trauma of enslavement in childhood but is a white (?) man with more structural power than Max, was if not completely at least partially responsable of enabling her punitive beating and gang rape in season one.

Mary Margaret Blanchard / Snow White:

Some fans make Snow out to be a totally oblivious prude or homophobe with Christian soccer mom undertones. Snow is none of those things in canon.

Snow is a really interesting character who deserves to have her psychology studied like a bug, not dismissed as a Silly Woman.

Veronica Lodge:

fandom victim blames her for being an abuse victim of her father, ignores her importance to her canon familial & romantic relationships in favor of shipping/focusing on her dad & boyfriend, gives her canon dynamic with her dad to her boyfriend instead, by and large ignores her despite the fact that she's one of the main 4/5 characters (also racism given she's latina & the guys she's ignored for are white) and there's the standard "teenage girl therefore she's annoying, stuck up, etc etc" logic
