ctrl+f is one of the greatest things to happen to academia and indeed this world
it seems like some people don't know keyboard shortcuts so here are some of my favorites. each shortcut is a set of keys that you will press at the same time:
ctrl+f, obviously: search/find, will search a page/document for a word or phrase
ctrl+c / ctrl+v: copy/paste, highlight text and hit ctrl+c and it'll show up again when you hit ctrl+v
ctrl+x: cut, it does the same thing as ctrl+c but it deletes the text, again it'll show up when you hit ctrl+v
ctrl+z / ctrl+shift+z: undo/redo. ctrl+z will undo whatever you just typed, ctrl+shift+z will put it back.
ctrl+a: highlights all the text on a page. this one is a real unsung hero.
ctrl+p: print document.
ctrl+s, ctrl+shift+s: save, save as (for when you're working on a document or project that needs to be saved. note that i don't think ctrl+shift+s works on microsoft word anymore for some godforsaken reason)
also, if you're working with text and you press control while pressing the arrow keys, your cursor will jump from word to word instead of letter to letter. saves a lot of time if you're proofreading/formatting.
be sure to check individual programs and system settings to see what other shortcuts might be available to you. some people have mentioned ctrl+t opening a new tab in a browser, for example.
if you go into your system settings on your computer and search "shortcuts" you can probably also change these or set up new ones. for example i always use a shortcut to switch between keyboard layouts quickly so i can go back and forth between the greek and latin alphabets on the fly. which is epic and awesome!

(this post is about putting all your time, energy, and care into one relationship, about staking all your happiness on a romantic relationship, effectively making the entirety of your joy and stability dependent on one person who could exit your life for any number of reasons no matter how great the relationship seems. it’s about the societal expectation to build your entire social life around one long term relationship, putting all your eggs in that basket, so to speak, instead of tending to larger social network and maintaining a variety of strong connections so that even if one very important relationship comes to an end, you won’t be losing your whole social life in one fell swoop.)

Meta Monday: Birds of Gay
This Meta Monday we’re taking a look at the meta essay Birds of Gay by Julian shipyrds. It’s written about the femslash pairing Barbara Gordon/Dinah Lance, aka Babs/Dinah, from the DCU, after the author read the Birds of Prey comics in 2023.
The author discusses the relationship from the perspective of a latecomer to the fandom, saying there’s a challenge in finding contemporary fan responses for the comic and the author wanting to talk about the ship's “nightmare relationship”.
The essay goes on to discuss topics such as disability, identity, and Barbara Gordon’s refusal to let herself be known, how the ship is deeply codependent and there’s an information imbalance, as well as digital decay, queer archives, and the ephemeral nature of comics, and other topics like this, too, is yuri.
It’s featured in the third volume of Yaoi Zine, which was themed "Yuri Zine."

sorry but if you studied and understood feminism as the liberation movement that it is, you would not be making men who are hurt by a system that still benefits them a top priority. the damage that choice feminism, white feminism, and rampant transmisogyny have done to people's perception and understanding of feminism so that it's now an accepted position to prioritise the individual well-being of men over the liberation of everyone else actually oppressed by systemic patriarchy is mind blowingly absurd. idc about men and boys who feel lonely and turn to misogynistic grifters to fill the void because they're not the ones who will be primarily harmed the most in that scenario !! women, girls (trans and cis) and queer people are. these men's lonliness and anger are problems that won't exist at the same scale when we no longer live in a system that normalises that behaviour to the primary detriment of women, girls (cis and trans), and queer people. i am so exhausted by rhetoric that seeks to center the greatest benefactors of patriarchy over the actual victims of patriarchy, simply because the perpetrators and benefactors of patriarchy don't like themselves.

This was such a really fun challenge to draw though! Aside from being an ACTUALLY FINISHED PIECE (a rarity for me), it was also great practice for protective hairstyles. I’ve been kinda slacking on those, primarily in the braid front. Like I can do locks pretty alright, but braids? Yeesh. This goes for white people braids too.
I mean, I could have done better, but my right hand is starting to hurt. If anyone has any advice or constructive criticism though, let me know!
I’m like speed-running carpal tunnel. Doing this and run crew for theater? Oh yeah my hands are cooked.
Anyway. Just to put it out there, if anyone wants to do an art trade I am SO down. Dunno if I can promise the same quality as this but I will try my absolute best!

The thing that’s always missing from the “women didn’t fight for the right to work they were already working they fought to get paid” is that many women also very much wanted to work.
Women wanted to be lawyers and engineers and chemists. They wanted to use their brains in challenging and interesting ways. They wanted to get the satisfaction from solving problems and inventing new shit and getting attention for it.
I know not everyone is born with intellectual curiosity or drive or determination but some people are and many of those people are women.
