It kind of fucks with me that somebody killed Ăśtzi the iceman because Ăśtzi himself is like whatever but the silent presence of human hands that drew back the string of the bow that shot the arrow that killed him is crazy. the idea that there were various people involved in that situation and while one of them has had his last hours painstakingly reconstructed and studied to no end, the others now only exist insofar that an arrowhead had to get into his shoulder somehow. imagine killing someone and then suddenly your entire existence is only a vague shadow implied by the fact that you killed them. much to consider

The southern states in the US are expecting to get hit with severe winter weather this weekend (temperatures below freezing, ice, and snow). The type that we do not experience on the regular. Speaking as a southerner, many of us are not good at coping with this type of thing. I want to emphasize something: this is not our faults. The infrastructure in southern states were not built to be suitable for this type of weather. The supplies we have available to us to deal with snow and ice aren't nearly as vast as northern states because this type of weather is not normal for us.
That being said, it would be wise to prepare in every way possible while there is still time. Even if it doesn't turn out as bad as predicted, better to be safe than sorry. Here is a checklist of things to consider:
Stock Up On:
⢠Multiple Gallons of Water (water lines are very likely to freeze, even with faucets dripping)
⢠First Aid Supplies (You never know when it could be needed.)
⢠Long-Lasting Candles (in case the power goes out, but flashlights are preferred over candles)
⢠Matches (lighter fluid freezes in cold temperatures)
⢠Flashlights
⢠Batteries
⢠Paper Products (Toilet Paper, Paper Towels, Tissues, Paper Bowls + Plates, etc)
⢠Hats, Gloves, Socks (Your hands, feet, and ears will thank you later.)
⢠Blankets
⢠Battery Banks (for your phone, in case electricity goes out)
⢠For those who have a vehicle, make sure you fill it up on gas.
⢠GET ANY NECESSARY MEDICATIONS REFILLED IF POSSIBLE.
DO:
⢠Wear layers. I know this can be a sensory nightmare for some but if your electricity goes out, you will need to stay warm with what you have. If you have wool-based or waterproof fabrics, use it.
⢠Take advantage of outdoor fireplaces and grills for heat if needed. Many homes these days do not have wood stoves or fireplaces, so if you absolutely need a heat source take advantage of what is outdoors if necessary.
⢠Inform yourself of the symptoms of and basic treatments for hypothermia and frostbite.
⢠Pay attention to your health. Do not overexert yourself. Do not waste your energy on tasks that are not immediately important. Conserve your energy.
DO NOT:
⢠Do not leave any fires or other sources of heat unattended, and do not allow any flammable objects near sources of heat.
⢠Do not use a gas-fueled oven or stove for a source of heat. This can lead to carbon monoxide buildup in your space. That shit will kill you.
⢠Do not use your vehicle for heat when it is inside a garage or other closed-off space. Again, carbon monoxide. That shit will kill you. You will also want to save your gas as much as possible.
⢠Do not try to travel unless it is absolutely necessary, and if it is necessary to travel in a vehicle be careful. If you are considering staying with a friend or relative, or even seeking shelter at a place like a hotel, get there before the severe weather hits.
The movie establishes that the phone lines to the house are down, thatâs also why nobody is able to call Kevin at home. The movie also establishes that all of his neighbors are out of town which is why he couldnât borrow their phones. The movie ALSO BEGINS by introducing the main antagonist as a âpolice officerâ which is why Kevin doesnât trust the cops. Iâm so tired of the ignorance. The slander.
Keep in mind that the robbers could have turned around and left at any time. Kevin set up the traps, but they didnât have to walk into them. They couldâve left and robbed an easier house, but didnât because they wanted to get the 8-year-old who was beating their asses. At some point, it stopped being about stealing the McCallistersâ stuff and started being about killing Kevin, at which point Kevin was justified in doing whatever the hell he wanted to them.
Plus if he just scared them away, they would have gone to rob his neighborsâ houses (if I remember correctly the neighbors were all gone except that old man who he couldnât go to for help because he was convinced he was a serial killer)
Not if, he did scare them away, Kevin drove off the bandits through non violent means 3 times before he resorted to traps and Rube Goldberg shit, Kevin gave them 3 chances to walk away, after that it was fair game

No guys, I need to stop and talk about something in this movie and how fucking revolutionary it was; something that I havenât seen in a movie before or since.
This is a movie about a kid who leaves her birth family.
Not a kid who find that they have a secret lineage or something that allows them to find their âtrue familyâ - this is a movie about a kid whose true birth family is made up of bad people. So she gets out. And that is played as the right thing to do. She isnât punished for it or made to feel bad about âabandoning her familyâ. There isnât an underlying âbut theyâre your family and you have to love themâ or âtheyâre your family and they love you even if they donât show it well or do hurtful thingsâ message of the kind that I see OVER AND OVER AND OVER AND OVER in media. Matilda gets out and lives happily ever after because of it.
We need a million more movies like this to counter the metric shit ton of movies that directly counter this message.
