I NEED more headcannons of this itâs too funny, like, Iâm imagining Angelique or Philip being like âHoward. Howard Plunket. What Iâm the bloody hell are you on about.â (Howard was talking about something Phil did very much in private)
Or alternatively after they figure out something is up with Howard:
Philip: *working on something* thinking, âok now I could test chemical A or chemical B on this, thereâs nothing in textbooks about this. HmmâŚ
âHoward, which should I use? Acid or mercury on this?â
Howard very clearly answering absentmindedly: âAcid will result in a thing thatâs placid, mercury will just give you something most ornery.
Howard, whoâs brain has now caught up: wait-
Also side note, Iâd like to point out, how much shit and or how much was Philip talking about Howard during his employment that Angelique and deduce that itâs the mysterious Howard sheâs heard of sheâs speaking to when properly meeting??
Hdkdndldkedn yes, absolutely! I love these ideas. And I find the idea of Phil or Angelique taking advantage of it very funny lmao but hey, might as well put your friend's Eldritch knowledge to good use, am I right?
Oh, wait, you know what would be absolutely hilarious? If Phil or Angelique figure it out before Howard does, and they do little tests like these to confirm their hypothesis. Hence Howard's confusion at his own answers.
More headcanons, huh? Well... since he saw everything, Howard would also have seen every modern meme, right? Can you imagine, he uses modern slang or memes for his rhymes? Bet that one would confuse the shit out of Phil and Angelique lmao. And then when they ask Howard has to try to explain vines and stuff, like: "... The container was empty, with no soda sweet. The girl said so, threw it, and coined the term 'yeet'!"
You know, I would pay money to see someone explain modern meme culture in rhymes. Especially since they'd probably also have to explain some modern technology along the way. That'd be a fun time for our big three.
On the other hand, Howard also has knowledge of the past, right? Maybe he comes across a historical mystery and knows exactly what happened. Bonus points if at first he's confused about it being a mystery, having mistaken his Eldritch knowledge for common knowledge he just couldn't remember the original source of.
Unfortunately, his Eldritch knowledge isn't exactly a source, either. But if he ever got especially fed up about it, he could use his Eldritch knowledge to know where evidence in support of the correct answer is, and then do something with that. In the meantime, Phil or Angelique will have to put up with his annoyance that people don't know the answer because he knows!! He fucking knows but can't tell anyone!!!
As for the workplace gossip... Fhkdndlend yeah it really makes you wonder how much Phil talked about Howard to his co-workers, doesn't it? But also. What if it wasn't just Phil. What if Angelique occasionally heard from either one of the Doctors Morose about "that applicant who applies every year but keeps doing so in rhyme". It was pretty easy for her to connect that person with the friend Phil kept talking about â someone who was rejected and speaks in rhyme â but when she actually met him it took her a minute for her to connect "rhyming weirdo who saved me" with "jerk friend and persistent applicant I keep hearing about at work". Seeing as she realizes who Howard is after Howard says he was "in the running" to work at Greatmaw Isle, I think it's a possibility.
Either way, I bet hearing Howard's reason for being on the island greatly confused her. Like, "This is the shitty friend I've been hearing way too much about?? The dude who blew up at his childhood friend for getting his dream job is willing to face death and walk backwards into hell to save him?? This dude's even weirder than I thought he would be."
