Case 2077.07.17
Client: Rupert March, 37 Male presenting, didn't ask.
Request: Client requested surveillance of three employees, all of who work for him for his independant delivery service. The company, DriveTrue, has a 87% success rate in their ablity to move a product from point A to B but that number is down by 5 after the last month of failed deliveries by these three, each of whom has been rolled in ways suspect to the client.
Known criminal cells in the area are nameless groups all loosely organized, just grouping up to make hits then dispersing after to avoid the whole being taken down or traced back to some larger group. Local authorities are either on take, incompetent, or hitting roadblocks in tracing back buyers of stolen goods to those who stole them, likely due to a predatory launderer taking advantage of the whole mess. Likely has corporate support but nothing proven.
The three employees are Miranda Durst, Michael Walker and Crawford "Crankshaft" Hartford. I note the ridiculous nickname on the third because I know Crankshaft, knew him when he was clean, then got him twice when he went offroad and then got hired to prove the third crime wasnt on him, which it wasn't. Went clean after that but light is a wave and a particle until you take a gander.
Michael is on the list for now but a body matching his description with his implants and prosthetics, both legal and filed off, were with the body and attached so barring a ton of backing and a deeper rabbit hole he's not my focus for the moment. Occams razor.
Miranda is still on the clocks and books, like Crankshaft, but she has deliveries lined up for the week while Hartford is laid up in bed recovering from the mugging he and his truck took. So Miranda it is.
First week yeilded nothing of note, might be playing it safe but Ill watch paint dry on those scorched trucks for a paycheck any time. If there was anything weird about the time it was Miranda clearly being injured still and dropping deliveries, denting product and talking her way out of it. If she wasnt a hell of a driver you'd think she didnt need the job with how wild she's being.
Should have seen it sooner. No one moves weight with that much damage unless they need the money. Miranda NEEDS the money. Two kids in a coma and a husband with permanent brain damage. Cant afford a cyberbrain to even him out, kids are too young for augments and the bills are piling up. She clearly took the workmans comp DriveTrue gave her but then went right back in to get more cash. Desperate minds take desparate actions.
Caught Miranda making another attempt at a bad trade, only this time she was using those skills talking her way out of broken merch to get out of another injury. Guy wasnt having it and shot a whole in her knee, but not before she took his head off with buckshot. Approached, let her get her shots in before she lost the will to fight, and sat down beside her.
Sob story matched the paperwork, maybe a little extra peppered in that made too much sense to think twice about, but when she was done venting I gave her a wrist and left it at that. Client paid me to prove his employees were clean, and after she killed her link to it all she was.
Problem now is she goes on the watchlist and that hasn't changed in a century. At least with all this metal her bullshit will blend in better as long as she doesnt go feral, but with a broken man and laid out kids she might snap early. Told her to wait on the kids and drip feed her man, so he doesnt turn right away, but even if he does having two out there to tap for work won't do me too bad so long as I don't have to kill them.
Crankshaft is coming to tomorrow, gonna press him hard as he's likely less of a sob story but even if he is clean he owes me and I can always get him work out of town. So long as everyone is happy and gets a warm meal, it'll be another good night.
