AIO Taking my office so as to preserve another office as shrine for dead supervisor
One of the leaders in my office died unexpectedly last week. Very sad. I felt bad and knew it strongly affected my boss. He decided to leave her office "untouched" for the next year to honor her.
She held an important position and needed to be replaced so a replacement is already in the works. But the replacement needs a place to work. Boss let me know he would be giving replacement my office and I could work out of a back room that wasn't being used (not quite a storage room but located down a hall away from the rest of the offices and away from everyone else). He chose me because I am working there in a slightly different capacity than others (my job is unique but also necessary) and I actually report to another director. This particular administrator runs the show in this area so he is definitely my superior and I am respectful and do my best to fit in.
I'm not happy about this and feel slighted. What a bizarre way to handle business IMO. I will be letting my director know I need to be moved to another location entirely. I have worked out of this location for 10 years but obviously I am not valued. Am I overreacting?

That's so unprofessional and a little unhinged, maybe upper management needs to bring in grief workers to talk to people about getting help like when someone unexpectedly dies that works at a school, they close for a day, bring in therapists or social workers for students and faculty that feel they need it and they find at least a temporary replacement until things get sorted. They don't just close the classroom and never use it again in memory. Then they often plant a tree or place a marker on grounds somewhere (at least that's what's been done at the schools my kids went to. I know there is a tree for a teacher that passed from cancer and a rock monument stone for a student that died of an illness before my kids went there.
If it were me I'd be annoyed that people were remembering me by my work office being untouched, getting dusty and sending someone to work out of a broom closet. I'd probably haunt the person that suggested it if the great beyond allows that sort of thing.”
