Spitballing with the fellas on discord and we've come up with a Star Trek character we want to see: A 200-year-old top Vulcan diplomat attending a function and laughing boisterously and slapping backs with everyone and then just relaxing into resting bitch face the moment nobody is watching him. He takes his job deadly seriously and studied parties extensively in the diplomatic academy. Every year he's brushing up on new developments in party theory. He knows every party nuance you could possibly think of, for the sake of intergalactic relations. Peace in the galaxy depends on it. It's weird but you gotta meet people where they're at, he thinks.
Sarek fucking hates this guy and it's 100% envy
human diplomat: [laughs at joke]
vulcan diplomat (to himself): this is great. I’m going to get a good grade in Party, something that is both normal to want and possible to achieve,

used to think it terribly silly (and kinda funny) when fantasy or sci-fi stories would have people refer to major recent historical events as The Flood or The Incident or The Revolution, and im sure historians fucking hate that because it's not helpful or descriptive, but we sure do be calling it The Pandemic
Also the new linguistic quirk of just saying “it was 2020” as like. The full end of a story. You say “it was 2020” and everyone knows what you mean.
“I was going to get my masters degree but then it was 2020, so yeah”
“I was cast in a play and then it was 2020”
“my boyfriend proposed but then it was 2020”
En Anglais, on ne dit pas “quatre vingt dix neuf”, on dit “ninety nine” qu'on pourrait traduire comme “Hurr durr, regardez mois, j'ai un système de numérotation fonctionnel” et je crois que c'est magnifique.

The wildfire season in B.C. has been transformed in a flash, with lightning strikes sending the tally of blazes burning in the province past 100. On Wednesday morning the province's firefighters faced only about 20 blazes in what had been a relatively quiet season, but as of Saturday morning there were about 115 fires burning, including about 77 started in the last 24 hours. Two-thirds of the fires are burning out of control and most new blazes, orders and alerts are concentrated in the southern B.C. Interior. But Attila Banhegyi remains unfazed after choosing to remain behind in his house in Boston Bar, B.C., near the Brunswick Creek fire with an area of 40 square kilometres and the Ainslie Creek fire with an area of 160 square kilometres.

Every time some fash posts about Real Art vs Duchamp's Fountain it's like lol that urinal has been kicking your ass for a hundred years
Marcel Duchamp kicked the bucket 55 slutty, slutty years ago and you can't get him out of your head. You're half as old as he is dead and you are worshiping at his altar, you are drinking his piss. He won.

this is just fucking insane
an entire continent is shrouded in wildfire smoke. a whole ass motherfucking continent. not a state or province or region or even just one country. much of an entire. continent.
we do not have a few centuries or even 50 years to wait, we need to start now. if it is like this now i dont want to see what its like even 5 years from now.
Just to raise awareness at the situation in Canada right now to my non-Canadian followers: Toronto has been ranked as having the worst air quality in the world right now due to wildfires.
Toronto is not a wildfire-prone area. It is extremely close to the USA border, and the smog is currently affecting NY right now. There is literal chunks of debris in the air. The sky is orange, and the sun is nowhere to be seen.
Climate change and its effects are right outside your door. Data centres are the cause for the insane heat waves across the globe, and the increase in wildfires and other natural disasters.
You will watch recordings of the world burn around you, and only when you are behind the camera will you realize there is no going back.
Stop the data centres. Protect our planet.
I gotta say, TMagP is really making me appreciate the built-in infrastructure that the Institute provided for the Archives. What do you MEAN, you don't have an Artefact Storage?? The only other department supporting your work, the one that went out and Responded to things, so you could just do paperwork, got disbanded YEARS ago?? You don't have a boss to give you a measly inch of support as far as a job description??
I thought the Archives were flying blind, but good lord. Magnus ran a much tighter ship than I gave him credit for. At least when people died at work, everyone knew when and why it happened.
Also, let's be clear: when Jon got promoted (very specifically because he couldn't do the job well), he KNEW he was unqualified and made himself a support system of his two best friends, including the one person who should have been promoted. When Gwen got shady BLACKMAIL from her EVIL WORK COMPUTER, she said, "Great! Let's commit a crime to get my boss's job that I don't know or understand!" One of these people is significantly more rational about their expectations for their work, and it's UNBELIEVABLE that it's Jon.

the top is an original, from 1910, the bottom is a new version painted in 2015
THE BOTTOM IS A PAINTING????
also does a really good job reminding the view just how much air quality has improved since we stopped burning coal in every building lol
