Some fics where a character does not engage in more violent/illegal pursuits such as vigilantism. Or just goes for soft power more than combat power. Like going off to farm instead of cultivating.

Some fic where it is assumed someone is being hurt (by a relative or partner) but that's not what's really happening. There was a lot fitting the criteria from DC so these all feat. Jason Todd as a character.

love and bruises (AO3) - "Jason kind of hates the people who say they have a gaydar, but the thing is, he doesn’t need a gaydar to tell with Bruce. He can just tell. Anyone with eyes can tell. The suits, the shoes, that one time Bruce couldn’t stop staring at some random nerdy reporter’s ass, the list goes on. Also, Bruce’s frequent liaisons with Batman are kind of a dead give away."

War of Attrition (but only one side knows they are fighting) (AO3) - "Jason Todd knows Superman is abusing his new father. He might be small, barely over 100 lbs wet, but he’s not going to let this happen to his family."

is this a kidnapping? (AO3) - "Jason's got some new neighbors in Crime Alley. A teenage girl and a shady guy. The situation looks worse and worse the more he looks into it. Toga and Dabi end up in the bat verse through quirk shenanigans, they try to stay low-key and fail pretty miserably."

You have come to accept that you are truly cursed somehow. Magic may not be real but every organization you have ever worked for has been destroyed somehow (embezzling owner, flooding from upstairs, held up too many times, copyright issues, etc).

To See You Again (AO3) - "Feemor is granted his greatest wish - to see his family once again, even if he is a bit too salty at first to enjoy it properly."

Shifting Sands (AO3) - "After stupidly listening to Luke, Leia wakes up on Tatooine. Her day only gets worse."

Under Different Stars (AO3) - "The stars, on the other hand…that's a first. Those don't just change. They shift, depending on which hemisphere you're in, but she's studied enough of space to know she isn't looking at the Milky Way."

Re-create the vibe that meme from Community (You know the one - Troy has returned with pizza and everything is on fire!).

To switch things up a bit, try out some contrast, have some fanfic where Alfred Pennyworth isn't the all-knowing, benevolent granddad seen so often in fic, but rather the opposite in fact. A man who makes mistakes, who hurts people, who enables a toxic environment.

Let's bring back whimsy. Insert some fairytale nonchalance into our stories. Have elements that are fantastical and simply don't bother to explain.

Raising Phantom AU (AO3) - "Jasmine started working at Gotham's Public Library, while having to take care of her baby brother and going to college. Danny is frustrated at having to be in hiding as well as everything else poor in his life. Also there is something off about the man that comes in to check books out. His family included. Batfamily playing a game to figure out these two's life only for things to get serious quickly."

The Son of the Red Hood (AO3) - "Clockwork intervenes in Danny's life so that he can learn all he needs to be king of the Infinite Realms, and hopefully this time he can actually be loved and cared for the way he deserves."

Imprint (AO3) - "He screwed his eyes shut, held his breath, desperately wished that he was back in his safehouse, alone and blissfully unaware.
