I’ve read all Ciaphas Cain books now… So happy that in the latest novel Vainglorious, there were finally non-binary tech priests 👏
To me it really makes a lot of sense that many tech priests would find human reproductive functions or even gender identity redundant.
I have a friend (lesbian, not that it matters) who's just a tech worker, not even a tech priest, who's had her uterus removed to not deal with period pain anymore. It makes no sense that tech priests would want to be bogged down by monthly bleeding or anything, when even everyday women don't want that. (I’m using a menstrual disc now. Highly recommend it.)
Would be interested to see a video game exploring non-binary identity through a tech priest companion. No one can, in good faith, say that the writers shoehorned a modern concept in.
Actually, those with male sex organs may want to have their testes removed, too. Really nothing but a weakness and or hindrance according to their philosophy, but I don't think writers would be brave enough to explore this in any detail…
