I need to gather evidence. I keep noticing the variety of where exactly the Puzzle sits on Yugi's body in artwork (and in some ways described in fics. usually described as resting on his chest) and sometimes it's his chest and sometimes it's like. practically his crotch
variable chain length for funsies? imagine them deciding in the morning how much to let out today
it seems in official artwork it's usually around his stomach (sometimes lower lmao) but fanart often puts it at his chest, maybe as low as the bottom of his ribcage. but honestly it's not as drastic as I thought. though I think it's almost always described in writing as on his chest. (I know that's how I've written it lmao)
the varying length is because where it sits changes in the manga!
for example, here's where it sits in chapter 4. at the beginning of the manga, it's usually around his chest/diaphragm.
by duelist kingdom, though, it's drifted closer to his diaphragm/navel. see here from chapter 100:
and it's still around here in ch 135, around when he gets the chain, though on occasion the top edge does hit his belt:
then jumping all the way to ch 252, it's usually lower, around his navel or crotch (or sometimes closer to his diaphragm, like in the third image, though i'd guess that's partially because he's leaning forward).
i would assume this was part of the stylistic change that happened between pre-duelist kingdom and post-duelist kingdom, since yugi also shifts to being drawn with more natural proportions, and it makes sense that the placement would also shift to match that.
and afaik it's usually around his sternum/navel area in both of the animes, so my only guess as to why there's a tendency to draw/describe it as resting on his chest by the general fandom is because of the symbolism of it being level with his heart.
Yeah, but have we ever considered the symbolism of it being level with his crotch?
