I've always rolled my eyes and been like "duh" whenever a commercial for medication warns not to take the medicine if you're allergic to it. But then I remember that there are people who use tapeworms to lose weight and I'm like, "fair point."

I know this isn't the point, but has anybody ever been proven to actually do that? It's been a bugaboo since the 19th century, with some people posting photographs of alleged tapeworm egg pill ads from around 1900, but I've mostly seen it as an urban legend (certainly there's no evidence that anyone actually DID do it in the 19th century, or that those ads were for legitimate products if they weren't Photoshopped, but I don't know about the present day)

Apparently there are tapeworm egg pills but they are mostly sold on the black market because countries tend to ban them. (Wish they did the same for brain worms. Looking at you RFK Jr.) They also are usually ineffective in that the eggs die most of the time without being released and maturing. Though that's a good thing in this case.
