Fun fact: you can avoid midlife crisis by literally simply just skipping it. Straight-up just skip being middle-aged. Once I turned 30 and aged out of the "young adult" bracket, I skipped straight into being a weird little old man. Record youngest bizarre old geezer in generations. Now if I'm lucky and play my cards right, I've got like 80 or 90 years of being a weird lttle old man left in me. If I manage to do a hundred, I'm going to start telling people that the secret to living to 130 is that I ate an entire pine cone every single day.
That, or that I can't die because heaven isn't taking me and the devil owes me money so he's avoiding me.

Yeah, Iād watch Muppets Lord of the Rings
"He should have stopped when he was still AHEAD!"
Absolutely brilliant. No notes.
OK but Statler and Waldorf need to have climbed the tower of the Eye of Sauron and be watching the whole movie from there.
With ear trumpets and opera binoculars on a stick to explain how they can hear and see every bit of dialogue and bit of action.
Sauron himself needs to be ignorant of their presence immediately below him, and they need to call attention regularly to everything the character that's a literal giant eye doesn't notice.
Once the Ring is destroyed and the tower is fallen they need to be clambering out of the rubble and:
"Looks like the Eye of Sauron is closed."
"Looks like the Eye of Sauron was closed for the whole movie!"
And they both laugh.

Iāve hear about how having cats makes you immune to hauntings, ghosts, spooky midnight noises etc but. for years Iāve been dealing with a panic response to unexpected nighttime noises, major enough that the adrenaline can keep me from falling back asleep for hours.
A few weeks of living with a cat and my brainās been reprogrammed. last night at 4am the furry little shitmuppet broke a vase & I only woke up long enough to call her a rat bastard & roll over back to sleep
Oh shit. This totally made me realize that it must have been my cat that killed my fear of the dark. I used to be intensely scared of walking into dark spaces. Hated any area where I had to turn a light off before I could turn another one on.
Enter my mostly black demon who likes to jump out of dark spaces at me.
Now I can just walk through dark rooms with no anxiety. Iām now used to the darkness taking physical form and jumping at me. At this point if a monster did jump out of the darkness Iād instinctively reach for the cat treats to offer it.
holy crap what other fears do cats make you immune to?
Iām no longer scared to dangle my foot over the bed bc of demons with sharp claws & glowing eyes, iām scared to dangle my foot over the bed bc of one specific small furry demon with sharp claws & glowing eyes
#fuck off beelzebub my cat has dibs
My cats are legit part of my grounding strategy for when I have sleep hallucinations. As part of my sleep paralysis, I āseeā corpses in the bed next to me on a frequent basis, or shadow men lurking in the doorway; if there is a cat blissfully, softly snoring at the foot of the bed, I know I am safe, despite what my brain is trying to conjure.
the sound of my door opening slowly, but theres no one there. my cat. somethings clawing at the walls, glass or window screens, cats. somethings fucking licking my toe in the middle of the night, my fucking cat again. nothing can hurt me its all cat
would you mind elaborating on the apple U2 thing?
In 2014, Apple, in partnership with U2, did a promotional stunt where U2's new album Songs of Innocence would be given away for free to iTunes users on release. However, instead of doing it by like, sending people a link they could use to add the album to their library or something, like most of these giveaways are done, the album was instead added to every iTunes user's library with no way to opt out, and autodownloaded to their devices.
A lot of people were just annoyed that it autodownloaded without their permission, taking up storage space on their device, or annoyed that even after deleting it they now had an album by a kinda normie cringe band permanently stuck in their library (because there's no easy way to remove something from your iTunes library, when the backlash got bad enough Apple had to roll out a bespoke tool you'd have to download and run on your phone specifically to remove that one album from your library), but the backlash was also driven by the fact that a lot of tech journalists and bloggers (rightfully) considered it to be a violation of people's privacy and stuff. Like it's kinda fucked up that, according to their EULA, Apple has the right to just add things to your library and autodownload them on your device without asking for your consent.
But a lot of these concerns were (and still are) dismissed because like "lol imagine getting this upset over free music" and such. Which is why the framing of "I wish people got as upset about AI as the time Apple gave us a free U2 album" kinda leaves a bad taste in my mouth.
Apple literally just showed the entire world they effectively had a backdoor into your machnine and could put anything they want on it, and you couldn't do anything about it, and people would defend that by going "Who cares if its mid, at least it was free" as if that was even remotely what anyone was talking about.
Exactly! Like it's just extremely disingenuous to describe it as "that time apple dropped a free U2 album on us" instead of "that time apple showed everyone that they have the ability to download media on your phone/tablet/computer/music player without asking you for permission"

I made the absolutely fucktacular mistake of giving my dog buttons that I recorded words on to talk with and she keeps waking me up in the thrice damned wee hours o the night to tell me and doubtless she could not pOSSIBLY wait until morning to say that she wants to eat the catās food
apparently when my sleep cycle is disrupted at a very precise interval my view of the universe fractures and alters because I may have not been religious before but now I believe deeply that god with a capital G denied Dogs with a lowercase d the ability to speak for a Reason and we should respect Her infinite wisdom on this matter
I have soared too close to the sun, in my arrogance I have built a tower too high unto the sky- it is made of cheap plastic recordable buttons and it is about to topple and take human language, as my dog knows it, down with it
Me: *is awoken to the sound of my own voice echoing in the dark passages of the night*
Me: How could I have laughed at Victor, how could I have scorned his anguish in the sight of his glorious but unnatural creation??? Only now do I understand, only now-
My dog in the background who has taken my voice as her own: dinner dinner dinner
When someone disagrees with you online and demands you prove your point to their satisfaction by writing a complete and logically sound defense including citations, you can save a lot of time by not doing that.
Bro, Iāve known you for twelve seconds and enjoyed none of them, Iām not taking homework assignments from you.
This got a lot of responses from people pointing out that evidence is a key part of intellectual inquiry, discourse, and debate.Ā That being able to support your beliefs is a key critical thinking skill.Ā Which is 100% true.
Except that you donāt actually have to participate in intellectual discourse any time some fucko on the Internet tells you to.
Thereās a vast difference betweenĀ āthis is an important thing to be able to do,ā andĀ āthis is a thing that you must be continuously available to perform in public for any stranger who asks.ā
i donāt really think the relationship between generation z and millennials is comparable to the relationship between baby boomers and millennials
mostly because largely speaking. baby boomers are the parents of millennials but millennials arenāt the parents of generation z
your older sibling telling you youāre an idiot for eating laundry detergent just isnāt the same thing as your parents berating you for not having a job in a shitty economy
Gen Z and Millennials are like Millennials and Gen X. The youngest of them and the oldest of us overlap, we have some definite shared cultural trauma, and by and large Gen X was very hopeful and supportive of us when we were still mostly kids, even if they didnāt āgetā us. (they still are supportive in my experience but weāre all jaded af right now)
And every Millennial I know feels p much the same about Gen Z at large.
Meanwhile Boomers are and have been largely very condescending towards all three of us.
