This used to be a URL saver blog for my original blog name on my main, but I decided to finally switch from multi-posting on my main to using this for comic related stuff!
Blog features content from DC Comics (Mostly Batfam), Marvel (Mostly Spiderman and sometimes Avengers), and... Percy Jackson and Danny Phantom for some reason? Idk why it just clicks as related LOL Occasional other things by brain decides is connected

i've been thinking a lot about time travel shenanigans where Dick gets sent to the future sometime after Battle for the Cowl when he's Batman, but instead of this happening when present Dick is Robin or Nightwing, it takes place during Batman: Prodigal when Dick is also Batman. so you have Dick in this headspace:
Batman (1940) #514
then he meets his future self as Batman and immediately his gut sinks because what do you mean he's still Batman? why didn't Bruce come back?
"There's been too much sad stuff lately. My baby bro died. Your dad died. The Graysons died. We need a reason to celebrate."
A pause.
"Let's get married."
If Damian was a lesser man, he would have cried out from shock. If he was drinking, he would have spat out every drop. But he is Damian al Ghul-Wayne, raised by assassins and the goddamn Batman and he... is tired. He's weary down to his rattling bones.
Later, he would like to say that it was more romantic, as if he was the protagonist in one of his beloved shoujo titles. Later, he would like to say that Jon spoke of marriage with hope and passion before a beautiful backdrop of Venice or Paris or Seoul at sunset.
But Jon was tired too - sick and tired. There's only so much death that a body could stomach, even a Kryptonian like him.
"We're supposed to date before marriage," Damian tells him, and it's not a no.
"People date to learn about their potential partner. We don't need that."
"We've never even kissed."
Jon touches down, the soles of his feet flatly planted on the grass. They're behind Batcow's barn, with a pile of manure right next to them. It's in that strange hour between midnight and sunrise, when sleep is pointless but staying awake is hard. There's no romantic lighting, no heartwrenching music - just the sound of their breathing and the glow of firelights dancing through the grass.
"Can I kiss you?" Jon asks.
Damian hums, thinking. "You'll have to marry me."
Jon smiles.
They just wanted to live. And it really seemed like the universe was conspiring to take away any chance at life. So they thought - at the same time together like good partners do - they thought to take life if it would not be given. They would seize joy with tooth and nail, dragging it home by the scruff of its neck.
A wedding was the perfect solution. They could kiss at the wedding.
No actually, its SO important to me that Dick's Discowing era is spent slowly realizing Bruce was right.
Not entirely of course, Bruce messed up ALOT, but there were things he was right about. That Those months, years are spent with a slowly clawing realization that some of the things Dick would of died on a hill for were wrong.
One of the first thing does is develop a suit that's all him, all what he wanted, no compromises no justifications no having to settle because Bruce said so, because Robin is gone but he has the world at his fingertips. Its moveable, its colorful, its fun in a way Bruce would never of allowed-
He nearly dies a few months later when a villain gets an unlucky shot and tears through parts of the suit he sacrificed armor for maneuverability because he always told himself it wouldn't matter if he could move right, be faster. Someone a year later grabs the collar and whips him around with such force he breaks his neck and only just barley survives not becoming paralyzed, the next version has it detachable but he still flinches for a while after is someone's hand comes too close.
People make comments constantly, some were welcome and invited. Most are not, some even touch his chest before he can back up, his skin starts to crawl. He doesn't have a cape to hide behind anymore, and he ignores how the slimmed down design offers little for warmers to be built in.
I'm not saying he's stupid, far from it! He's been a hero for around 8-10 years by the time he leaves (depending on your age hc), but he's still young and its canon that Dick was often so volatile and furious over Bruce it often clouded his vision back then.
And its not just the suit, he becomes a leader for a group and they're his friends and they're well trained... but not enough, not like he was. They get hurt, they make mistakes, they do things that they never had to worry about but Dick did, Dick does. More people join, younger then him, they nearly die and Dick has to sit with it.
He tries to fix it, tries to help, he's better at it then Bruce in a lot of ways but its a heavy weight on his shoulders and sometimes they spit the same things at him he did at Bruce and he cant help but think.
Was it this heavy for Bruce? Did he feel this way too? Dick would never know because Bruce never said anything and thats the problem.
It doesn't stop awful things from happening to Dick.
He moves only a city away from Bruce, says he wants to be his own man but wants to be close. Does he want Bruce to see the proof that Dick is better then him, that he doesn't need his Dad? Or does he just wish to be close but unable to bridge that gap?
Dick is left battling a sick city alone and its not Gotham but she's tainted and rotten all the same, and he doesn't have anybody, no Robin, no Commissioner Gordon, no Alfred. He has to be his own contact in the police station and tries to fight a loosing uphill battle of corruption. Amy is great, she will be great for this city- but she's not right now.
His knuckles are red and his eyes and body are black and blue and black and blue. He looses track of all the time he nearly doesn't make it. He still curses Batman out when he crosses the boundary into HIS city. He misses his Dad but Dick apparently cant have him without Batman.
There is a new kid and Dick is so angry but time blends and Dick see's how young Jason is. Doesn't stop the fury in him at Bruce but he tries to reach out to Jason and bridge the gap, thinking of those kids at the Titans he nearly loses over and over and over and over and over and over. He wouldn't of chosen Jason but he's his brother. He talks to his Dad again, not often but... more then it was. Maybe it will be fine.
He's in space and its hard but it's fine.
He comes home and his brother is months dead. Nobody told him. He cant admit that he doesn't know if Dick would sacrificed the mission or not. Takes years to accept that maybe putting others and the mission in jeopardy would of been an awful idea. He still would of wanted to know because he's Not Bruce and he hates he's become him in the worst ways.
Jason is dead and he wasn't there. He didn't get to go to the funeral. His Dad is a former shell of himself and Dick feels like it too. He cant bring himself to care that Bruce is going to kill himself or others. Dick know he should but he doesn't. His new suit has armor and is more covered and has no extra bits, and its black and blue and black and blue and black and blue-
Bruce was right in a lot of ways, and it ignites the fury in him to admit it even as he still gets in screaming matches with Bruce before stalking off to his city to pretend he's not a person. But Dick is just as bad, it turns out, so who is he truly more mad at?

canon is what happens in the text. e.g. merlin tries to poison morgana
a headcanon is a fact that you have personally made up as an elaboration of canon. it is your invention. e.g. i think morgana and gwen had a teenage lesbian situationship before the events of canon. or, i think modern morgana would love evanesence.
an interpretation is how one reads the existing text. it is not an invented fact nor is it a headcanon, it is a reading. e.g. i think merlin tries to poison morgana out of misplaced self-hatred. or, i think that one line was delivered with suppressed malice and shows a nuanced relationship.
fanon is the general fandomās accepted headcanons and interpretations that elaborate or recontextualize canon. e.g. merlin is a badass waif and morgana is a bitch.
these are all different words with different meanings.

āWhy didnāt Dick and Cassie Sandsmark believe Tim about Bruce being alive?ā
He didnāt actually give them any evidence for it before running away. Didnāt even try to convince them beyond saying āheās alive, Iāll prove it.ā
Heād spent the past year trying to resurrect his dead family and friends. After 100+ cloning attempts and almost stealing Lazarus pit water, this just looks like Timās typical grieving pattern.
Dick, Tim, and Clark personally examined Bruceās dead body and determined it was his!
Timās inner monologue in Red Robin 1 shows even he knows heās driven by desperate hope and compounded grief: āHeās all I have and he has to be aliveā¦Please, god, donāt let me be crazy.ā
If Tim had turned out to be wrong I honestly believe he still wouldāve gone looking for a way to bring Bruce back. Just like he did with Kon, Bart, Steph, Jack, and Janet.
Red Robin follows so clearly from Timās grief from losing Jack Drake and everyone else. DCU Halloween Special ā09: āOur Fatherās Sinsā made this even more obvious by showing Red Robin Tim reflecting on his grief over Jack while heās searching for Bruce.
Of course his friends and family think heās grieving! He is! He just also happens to be right. Nobody is completely unjustified here.

so iām trying to write duke and i donāt think iām writing him right. how would you describe his personality because with donāt trust fanon lmfaooo
(this was only supposed to be a paragraph or two i swear to god)
1. first things first, duke is a hardcore gryffindor. donāt let the yellow color scheme mislead you, okay. and while most of the time heās depicted in fanon asĀ āomg this family is crazy and iām the only sane one,ā itās actually pretty much the opposite? if anything, i think the other batkids would be likeĀ āoh finally, someone who can match our level of chaotic energy. HEY DUKE WANNA BUNGEE JUMP OFF WAYNE TOWERāā and an hour later theyād all be in the batcave getting lectured by bruce for leading poor sweet innocent duke astray when really he was already planning on doing that this weekend.
listen, this is the kid who once jumped off a bridge to escape police. this is the dude who decided to fight criminals while theyāre still eating their wheaties at 6am in a bright yellow suit. and while duke seems to be the best at following bruceās command at the moment due to having been trained by him most recently compared to the others and is still figuring out how to be a hero, iām positive that if bruce werenāt here to guide him, duke would be running around gotham taking down criminals anyway. i mean, he literally did do that with the āwe are robinā kids. plus there was the whole thing when he was like ten years old and decidedĀ āi am going to singlehandedly stop the riddler in my light up sketchers and pikachu backpack. try and stop me.āĀ
duke is headstrong and has a strong drive toward heroism. heās an extremely enthusiastic and passionate person in general, and i try to capture a little of that when i write him, even with mundane things like trying to beat his siblings to the last cupcake.Ā
2. another thing i noticed is that duke swears like a sailor in comics? seriously, this boy could give jason a run for his money with how many ā@#!%ā speech bubbles there are. i donāt know if this is just a trend the writers added in the comics iāve read of him, or if itās a genuine trait throughout every comic heās in, but thatās something to make note of when writing dialogue for duke. after all, he did grow up in the narrows, so it makes sense that heād use a lot of swearing and slang in his everyday vernacular.
3. i would also make a point of noting that duke is fairly young compared to the rest of the batfamily, being the second youngest after damian. duke is still a teenager in high school, and he acts like it. heās got homework and friends and is eager to make a difference in gotham, trying to juggle everything and make it all work somehow. heās stubborn and doesnāt give up easily, so itās important to write him as someone who is trying to save the world while also struggling with finding time to study for his next math test. he's human. he doesnāt get to dedicate all of his time to fighting crime like cass or jason might be able to, since duke is still a mostly normal teenager with teenager problems.
4. and donāt forget that unlike the other batkids, duke still has two living parents. sure, theyāre jokerized and might not ever be the same again, but theyāre alive and thatās what holds him back from letting himself get as close to the waynes as he wants to. duke wonāt be calling bruceĀ ādadā anytime soon, and i think heād have some internal struggle over stuff like holidays and birthdays with the waynes, remembering what his parents are missing out on and wondering if joining the wayne family is a betrayal to them. duke is very conflicted over this, even if he doesnāt say it directly. stuff like ducking out of movie night early or feeling a bittersweet pang during thanksgiving dinner makes sense for someone in his situation.Ā
(i usually ignore that aspect in my fics because i want duke to just be adopted and part of the family already, but not everyone does that, and thatās perfectly fine.)
5. honestly, duke is such a caring individual and we as a fandom need more of him being a shoulder for people to lean on because heās?? so soft?? duke can be so sympathetic and rational when it comes to emotional problems. it seems like duke internalizes every bit of advice he gets from the people around him and uses it to inspire others and help them through their own problems. as tough and hotheaded as duke can sometimes be, he really is good when it comes to emotions.
6. duke is a smartass. he will 100% use sarcasm against any and every authority figure he meets, usually just for the hell of it.Ā
7. heās very frank in general, usually the first to be likeĀ āokay full disclosure, weāre about to die right now. that sucks. anywayāā in a situation. heās honest and tends to be upfront about his fears/anxieties, usually for comic relief, but i think it still counts.
8. okay i have to add that duke is also kind of a punk? he and jason have a lot in common because of this: they both grew up in one of gothamās worse areas (jay in crime alley and duke in the narrows) and theyāre both highkey deliquents. duke has no problem getting into fights or talking back to authority figures, and itās gotten him in hot water on more than one occasion. itās why he kept getting moved around the foster system before bruce took him in because no one wanted to keep him.
9. heās also gottenĀ so close with the other batkids and we love to see it!! duke calls cassĀ āsisā and treats damian like the annoying little brother he never had and i adore every second of it. we havenāt gotten a lot of interactions between duke and the others aside from training and stuff, but he and jason have the wholeĀ āpunk kid who got adopted by batman and is baffled by how rich people liveā going for them, so they can bond over that. and duke is a thinker like tim, so they can hang out and do puzzles or play chess or whatever it is that smart people do. (and duke and steph are BESTIES i donāt care what anyone says.)
10. most of all, duke is still learning how the whole hero thing works. heās young and heās trying his best, but he also makes mistakes. he will be impulsive and screw up, and heāll try and merge the lessons batmanās taught him and that his parents taught him and that other heroes teach him until it all makes sense in his own mind. duke isnāt experienced like dick or even damian, so heās going to be lagging behind for a while until he grows until the role heās made for himself.
other miscellaneous details to include:Ā
- duke is dating izzy, who used to be part of the āwe are robinā gang with him
- he used to live at the manor and now lives with his cousin jay, but honestly i just have him living at the manor in everything i write because i like it better that way
- he can control shadows and light now! what a king!
- duke secretly writes poetry and is good at creative writing in generalĀ
- this:
- duke is super smart?? he figured out that agent 37 was dick grayson without even trying?? iām so proud of him
- his biological father is this supervillain called gnomon so now duke has got four parents: his mom, his dad, his supervillain dad, and bruce (plus selina if you count her as the batkidsā stepmom, which i do)
- jason calls himĀ ānarrowsā and i love that
- and, lastly, the most important panel in the history of comics:
