Curious to know who you (or Prime or both) would cast as Prime in a live action (existing Superman actors or not) -- now officially prime pilled thanks to you
Hmm… That's a tough one. I have yet to associate Prime with a specific actor, and I'm not all that familiar with younger actors these days.
I will say though that I imagine his actor to have eyes like Dane DeHaan's. He's not a perfect pick IMO but in many of his roles there's a cold sort of intensity there mixed in with fragility that I like to think Prime also has.
I think Dane came to mind because someone once described him as "Leo DiCaprio put through a fruit dehydrator" and I see Prime in a similar way. He's like Superman put through a fruit dehydrator. Slimmer than Supes but still strongly built, still looks conventionally attractive in the way Clark is, but you can tell there's something off about him. His eyes and expressions give him away.

Thoughts on superboy prime reacting to his absolute lack of merch?🥹 (Me caressing the singular new McFarlane figure of him I have on my shelf…) Everything else I see online is like two old as hell action figures that cost 80 bucks…He probs still has like more than the other underrated BUT STILL‼️
I may have to start looking for that McFarlane figure now too...
Also, fun fact: the DC Direct one (top right) shows up in Adventure Comics #4! It looks good imo, I would've bought it at 50% off.

before superman #38 was released, i tried to predict how prime was going to react to getting hit with magic. he didn't yap this much, but close enough!
put on your i'll make a ghost of him that lets me playlist to help me lock in on an asignment and all your choices are such bangers. Dumb question but do you have a masterpost of the AUs David bc i want to devour all of it lol i love a fourth wall breaking little weirdo lol
thanks so much!! that mix was really fun to put together.
there's info about his alternate selves on this page of his blog, which also includes links to their main tags on my blog + their corresponding spotify playlists.
(i also have him post and reblog things there semi-frequently, if you're curious about what goes on in that noggin of his)
I was wondering how you felt about "justice League incarnate" from 2011, because I'm pretty new to superboy prime and so I read his wiki and read something like. "Prime's descent into darkness was influenced by the great darkness." And I looked into it and yeah, it's there.
The main reason I ask you is because to me you're like a superboy prime elder fan and I wanted your opinion on this. Also I rarely saw the issue (JLI #4) on reading lists for him even tho this would be affecting his actions.
(just for clarity: not accusation just asking an opinion on this! Love your art!)
Oh huh. This is actually news to me, thanks for bringing it up!
JLI was released a couple years after Prime's redemption in Death Metal, and by that time I had already tuned out of DC fandom because my favorite guy got his happy ending already! Or so i thought...
For anyone curious, Prime shows up in this panel in JLI #4:
Lengthy thoughts under the cut but TL;DR: I genuinely hope it's not canon or mentioned again because it won't help him redeem himself in the current Superman run.
The idea that he's been unwittingly influenced and pushed to villainy by the Great Darkness during Infinite Crisis doesn't sit well with me at all, and I don't remember it ever being a thing before JLI, which is likely why it rarely comes up in reading orders. The way this was "revealed" after his heroic sacrifice in Death Metal is probably their way of saying he's always been a good guy that's just been corrupted by an outside force.
To some extent, he is. Alex Luthor Jr. got his hooks into Prime while they were in the paradise dimension, but that's about it. His actions in that event were his own (yes, even punching Pantha's head off), and if his motives aligned with that of the Great Darkness, it's likely only a coincidence. His heroes turned on him and imprisoned him so he hated them back, and if he was ever a multiversal threat it was because he was either homesick and/or had a very specific standard for how earth should be.
What worries me is that Williamson co-wrote that JLI issue, and he's currently handling Prime's redemption arc. My biggest gripe with his current run is that while they acknowledge the fact that he has committed atrocities, it's only in broad strokes. They have yet to make explicit what Prime actually did to earn his current reputation. In Superman #37, they had the opportunity to mention Prime murdered Earth 2 Superman (who's still dead, btw), but this was glossed over by the characters and even the editors themselves (who advised the readers not to read Infinite Crisis).
The narrative is working almost too well in Prime's favor these days, sanding down his rough edges to make him palatable to readers. He's reasoned before (#29) that it doesn't matter if he killed people since most of them were brought back anyway. He's already leaning on the fourth wall to avoid accountability, so really, the last thing he needs is another in-universe reason for him to go "that wasn't me!" and blame the Great Darkness instead, if he wasn't blaming Geoff Johns already. I doubt Williamson has the time to bring it up, but it's still something he could use.
Prime's my special little guy, but I will always, always let people know that he's very much responsible for doing some pretty monstrous things. Yes, the world has been cruel to him since he was young and yes, he's been maddened by grief.
He still did all of that himself. To say otherwise cheapens his redemption arc.

I'm really really interested in the concept of superboy prime after seeing a lot of posts about him, and I LOVE the way you characterise him and the comics you make of him! He's so much fun!!
So... for someone who wants to get invested&start reading but is kind of confused about it all and was never THAT deep into DC. What are a few comics with him you like and would recommend?? If you don't mind sharing.
Thank you!!! And I love your art!!!
Thanks so much!! I'm glad you're enjoying the comics, I try my best to capture his essence each time I draw or write him :'D
Okay so. Fun fact: Prime is the reason I got into DC in the first place, so I pretty much jumped into those messy crisis events blind. Crazy way to get into it, but I still had fun!
There's an excellent reading list here if you'd like to check out all of his major appearances. He keeps popping up in big events where there's like a bajillion subplots going on at once, but you could skim through them just to see what Prime is up to. If you want to delve into the overall lore and state of things, it's probably best to search it up/wiki it.
As for some favorites:
DC Comics Presents #87 - His first appearance and origin! Very fond of the sweet kid he used to be.
Infinite Crisis + Infinite Crisis: Secret Files & Origins - Start of his villain arc. Bit biased because I love a good corruption arc, and they knew exactly what it took to wreck that poor kid emotionally and mentally. Probably best to read Secret Files first since it happens before the actual crisis.
Tales of the Sinestro Corps: Superman-Prime - If I had to recommend just one comic that isn't his first appearance or his redemption, it's this. It has a rundown of his backstory from his point of view, moments that get to the heart of what drives him as a character, and fights where everybody's trying to kill him. The works.
Final Crisis: Legion of 3 Worlds - With nothing to lose he leans even more into the villain role, and he's delightful and annoying in equal parts. I liked it despite knowing next to nothing about the Legion, mostly because Prime is given such a unique voice (you can tell he's one of Johns' favorites) and Pérez's art is incredible.
Adventure Comics #4-5 - These two issues cemented him as my favorite. It paints him in a tragic, sympathetic light and picks apart his personality and motivations in a creative way. Also, 4th wall breaking shenanigans. That's important (to me at least).
Dark Nights: Death Metal - The Secret Origin - In which he gets redeemed! Back then I was really hoping that they would give him a second chance, and I was beyond happy when he finally got it.
Current Superman run (#28 onward)- He's Superman now! Or at least in the meantime. Cautiously optimistic about where it's headed, but it's got a strong start. He's fun, he's meta, and he's written in ways I used to dream of. It's great.

i saw your latest Superboy Prime comic and was wondering — if I wanted to read more of him what'd be the comics for it? the Internet was, uh ... unhelpful. (in part since similarly on recommendation/inspiration I read through some of the Loki-god-of-stories stuff, esp agent of asgard and absolutely loved it)
This reading order from dieletdown is pretty good! There's also a neat condensed reading list here.
If you enjoyed the way Loki struggled with his place in the narrative and how he was being perceived as a villain, you might enjoy Prime's current arc too!
Dark Nights: Death Metal kicks off his redemption arc and he's trying his best to be a hero in the current Superman run.
