So there is no peace of work I hate more than your can't be saved series. It is the 13 reasons why of fanfiction. You just wrote it with no regard for how you treated Steve or all of the toxic shit you taught people was okay because "Billy actually loves Steve!" So all of the trama and abuse billy put him through is okay! Which is 100% what you taught and that is sick! I am not malicious but holy shit I wish that all horrible treatment of others, all of the shit you wrote in your fic happens to you.
Hi! First of all, I’m actually surprised I got this notification at all because I don’t usually receive them. I was going to ignore this comment but I think it’s important to address some of the points you’ve made against me.
I would like to say, for starters, that there are trigger warnings on the fanfiction for a reason. I’m sorry that reading this story has you so worked up, and I wish that you would have heeded the warnings for your own health.
Next I would like to talk about my thought process for this fic! Now, it’s been awhile as this fanfic was completed nearly two years ago, so please bear with me.
As a person who has suffered from mental illness for years and been surrounded by different forms of abuse and others with varying degrees of mental instability, I think it’s important to note that not everything is a smooth journey, and I for this specific work, I treated it as such, therefore, it is a bit raw compared to most works. I can see how you feel this way, but it’s so necessary to understand that this is a story of somebody who has suffered through a mountain of tragedy for his entire life. He is learning how to love not only himself, but the people around him, and more importantly, how to BE LOVED. This can be one of the most perilous of journeys, and unfortunately, it is one that people set out upon each and every day. I have not once encouraged any form of abuse, manipulation, or harm that Billy inflicts upon anybody in his circle, and part of the plot is, in fact, that Steve is also (unfortunately) suffering. It is not justification of any of the treatment that either of them endure, however, your implication of myself teaching that trauma and abuse is okay is false. And it is also, to be frank, disrespectful of those who suffer from mental illness. It implies that people who have a difficult time learning how to love and be loved in itself do not deserve to be loved if it proves difficult to those around them. Abuse is never justifiable, of course, and I would never condone it. But in the end, this IS a fanfiction, and the entire plot of the story is revolved around a boy struggling to find safety and peace and being incorporated into a world that is brighter than the one he’s been raised in. Real life has many bumps in the road, severe ones at that. Does Steve deserve the treatment he’s receiving? Absolutely not. That being said, he sticks by Billy because he wants to help him see the light at the end of the tunnel, and he does have a lot of love in his heart for him. Helping a misguided and abused person become whole and teaching them what the world is like when you’re cared for is entirely different from evilly abusing those around you (ex. Neil) relentlessly.
I am truly sorry that you feel this way about my writing, but I genuinely urge you to please open your heart and understand that there are people who suffer every single day from trauma of many degrees and they deserve to be saved as well. I’m sorry if you have experienced anything like the events in this fanfiction, because it seems that you’re also broken. And I hope that someone can save you from being so malicious, because wishing abuse and suicidal thoughts on somebody else over a two year old work of fiction on the internet is, in fact, malicious and vile.
