(Actually spent a good few months thinking I was genetically unlucky and researching ancient family curses with my grandma.) 

So today I don’t know what I was hoping for - nothing, really?

(I mean, that part of me that’s still twelve was probably expecting this sweet old woman to have a set of glitter stickers in her purse and just go ‘You know what, you’re right - I’ve been saving this one for you all these years, here you go’ but I’m a solidly rational person and I know that’s stupid.)

No, I thought we’d just laugh and it would be a good shared memory and that would be it. Instead, my teacher got flustered and a bit embarrassed and explained the game was rigged. It was never about learning French at all. She’d just noticed some kids couldn’t afford even basic stationery, so she’d buy a few half-fancy items every month with her own money just for them. She didn’t want them to feel different or left out. And obviously the way she used to walk around in the classroom, looking over our shoulders - it wasn’t to prevent cheating. It was because she was cheating herself, wanting to see which number a particular child needed to get a Minnie Mouse pencil case.

Guys - the world is fucked up, but so many people out there are just good and kind and humbly heroic it honestly gives me hope. 

Most of the men who do this challenge will pick the fish from Shark Tales, Nala from Lion King (this was the one he actually had to fight for his life over), Shego and actors slightly older than 30 there was one guy who had Korra was his hear me out.

Meanwhile the girls are fucking xenomorphs, mathematical equations, the concept of Vine, Bananas in Pajamas and the Peanut M&M. One girl sprayed another girl with a water bottle because she put Bowser on cake and he was too basic.

I am holding a triumph of human kindness in my lap right now and her name is Fancy.

So this driver tells me she’s literally never met the other lady in her life, but when this passenger started crying in the car with her dog because she was worried, this angel in the form of an Uber driver went off the clock, came inside the building, and waited over an hour in a busy emergency room with a complete stranger just so she would have someone there by her side in a scary situation. This woman even took notes about everything I said so the owner wouldn’t have to try and remember it all later.

1. Biden’s allowance of aggressive pursuit of anti-trust practices is exactly why this is happening. Not only are they doing what previous administrations couldn’t or didn’t do, but they’re seemingly casting a wider net on what is deemed “anti-competitive”. In this case, it’s information sharing between landlords. This leads into point #2.

2. In 2022 ProPublica published a story about RealPage, a company that operates a software used to set market prices for rentals. How it works is that landlords that use the software offer up the information they have about their local rental market, and then that information is shared with whomever else has the software and they adjust their prices accordingly.

The issue is that not everybody has access to the software, creating an unfair advantage. Unfortunately, when one property owner raises their prices, others are likely to follow suit, meaning that even if they don’t have access to the software, the prices still go up as a reaction to “market pricing”.

According to this politico article underneath, “While the RealPage probes could yield a traditional price-fixing lawsuit, they are also emblematic of the Justice Department’s increased focus on information-sharing agreements across the economy. Last year the antitrust division withdrew guidance giving safe harbors to certain information sharing in health care. And the sharing of anonymized data in the chicken industry is the focus of a separate DOJ antitrust case.”

Harvard decided to rescind offers of acceptance to at leas 10 incoming youth for the class of 2021 after conducting an investigation that unfolded offensive messages these people posted on the social media, specifically on Facebook. They posted memes about rape, dead children, Holocaust as well as making racist jokes about Mexican children who were hypothetically hanged calling them “pinata time.”

The Ivy League university RESERVES the right to withdraw offers of acceptance if an “admitted student engages in behavior that brings into question his or her honesty, maturity, or moral character.”

For those of you who are wondering who else the original tweet is referring to, they are talking about Margaret Atwood, a very prominent feminist author (probably best known for The Handmaid’s Tale). Because she is a feminist the terfs assumed that she’d naturally side with them, and it came as a massive shock (for some reason) when she very publicly opposed and humiliated all of  terfdom.

But yeah I don’t know how terfs can possibly get through Discworld books without any kind of self-awareness but apparently they do. I’ve also seen them talking about how the Wives in the Handmaid’s Tale are all trans women (solely based on the fact that they are infertile). If you know anything about the plot or even the basic premise you’ll know how ludicrous that suggestion is.
