Savor the decadent, chocolate-infused goodness of freshly made chocolate doughnuts. These delicious treats are great for any time of day as a sweet snack or for breakfast. They're a hit with everyone because of their rich chocolate glaze and optional sprinkles!
Ingredients: 1 cup all-purpose flour. 1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder. 1/2 cup granulated sugar. 1/2 tsp baking powder. 1/4 tsp baking soda. 1/4 tsp salt. 1/2 cup buttermilk. 1/4 cup vegetable oil. 1 large egg. 1/2 tsp vanilla extract. 1/2 cup semisweet chocolate chips. Vegetable oil for frying. 1 cup powdered sugar. 2-3 tbsp milk. 1/2 tsp vanilla extract. Sprinkles optional.
Instructions: In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. In another bowl, whisk together the buttermilk, vegetable oil, egg, and vanilla extract. Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and mix until just combined. Stir in the semisweet chocolate chips. Heat vegetable oil in a deep pan or fryer to 350F 175C. Using a doughnut mold or two round cookie cutters one large, one small, cut out doughnuts from the dough. Carefully place the doughnuts into the hot oil and fry for about 2-3 minutes per side, or until they are golden brown and cooked through. Remove the doughnuts from the oil and place them on a paper towel-lined plate to drain any excess oil. In a small bowl, whisk together the powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla extract to make the glaze. Adjust the consistency with more milk if needed. Dip each doughnut into the glaze, allowing the excess to drip off. Top with sprinkles if desired. Let the glaze set for a few minutes, and then enjoy your homemade chocolate doughnuts!
