I want some form of reward for not snapping at the people asking me to hand hold them through processes my job does not involve while I was up to my eyebrows in audit prep today.
I am exhausted. I have been doing my job, and portions of at least two other people's jobs for seven months. I ran an orientation for six people on Monday, and then i had to deal with all the paperwork that generates.
I come home and I'm caught between anxious vibrating in place and utterly motionless collapse.
Pictures of cats or red pandas are appreciated.
10, 16, and 40 for the writer ask meme?
hi sig!! 💖
10. How do you decide what to write? It depends! How I decide what to write as in what to work on right now? There's a flowchart that starts with "Is there a deadline?" and "How far away is it?"
How do I decide what to write as in picking between story ideas? That's literally just asking myself "would this be fun to play with?" Sometimes, I think the answer is yes and I am wrong, and sometimes I put something aside for ages a while and then later it looks fun after all. Mostly it's just that some irritating anime bastard with white hair will infect my brain like a parasite and I will be compelled to put him through whatever wringer I can find.
16. What’s an AU you would love to read (or have read and loved)? I have read a couple REALLY enjoyable Pacific Rim AUs. Those were excellent. More Pacific Rim AUs! (Shatter by catachresis is my favourite. The other one seems to have vanished from the tag.) There is also a truly spectacular The Martian AU that made flailing on the bus nearly impossible to avoid (Expedition V by ftld go read it Right Now.)
Generally speaking I am a fan of either SciFi or Fantasy AUs. Not so much the mundane world ones.
40. Do you tend to reread fics or are you a one-and-done kind of person? I'm a "i have to bind a physical copy so i can read it if the power goes out or the internet collapses" kind of person. If a story really gets to me I will read it until I have it engraved on the inside of my eyelids.

9 and 12
💖thanks for the ask
9. How do you find new fic to read? basically? Go to the tag that is my strongest craving, filter out the things i absolutely do not want (pregnancy usually) and scroll by most recently updated. If a summary looks interesting I will click. Will i finish it? Who knows, but i will definitely start it.
Alternatively, I go ask various writers I know if they have anything they want a second pair of eyes on.
12. Are there any tropes you used to dislike but have grown on you? I'm sure there are but i can't pull any of them to mind so far. Possibly villain redemption arcs? I'm super picky about them tho, so it is a growth in progress. Romance focused stories also didn't used to be a thing for me, but that has certainly shifted. I still adore a good gen fic, but I will read ship-first as often as not now.
As happens every time someone says "Think about tropes" my brain is refusing to cough up any at all.

i understand words and phrases. my dialogue is natural and in character. i know where the plot is going. my word count is reasonable. i am not scared of my document
we need to have a conversation about how the "everyone is 12" theory of politics now doesn't only apply to conservative men who want to kick the bad guys' asses and then go home and eat a steak their bangmommy made just for them (NO VEGGIES!!!) but also to adult women who are literally afraid of other people having sex and being sexy. it's like there's been this massive regression among women in their 20s where we've gotten rid of feminism and replaced it with a new form of purity politics that requires never saying anything bad about another women unless you find a new and creative way to call her a whore. the misuse of "she caters to the male gaze" as a new form of enlightened slut shaming, labeling any woman who wears a short skirt or has sex with a man as "not a girls' girl" and "a pick me," the intense overreaction to celebrity affairs or even just shit like the summer house mess where a woman is now dating another woman's ex even though there was no overlap and the "relationship" was just kind of a situationship that fizzled but now these little girls are online demanding both people involved in the new relationship lose their jobs and not get any brand deals, the panic over mildly sexual content in literally any capacity like ads or an instagram post in a crop top, the compulsion to link everything back to the epstein files, the monthly meltdown over sex scenes on tv and in movies. everyone is 12 and AFRAID of sabrina carpenter.
a helpful guide
can't get a handle on my head tonight and am half thinking i should just go to bed about it.
However
that would mean the next thing i have to do happens subjectivly sooner and i don't like that very much
