So I forgot today was my birthday. Again.
I'm 37 now, which is literally just a number to me, but the day of my birth has long held a significant negative emotional weight. So many bad things have happened to me and the world at large on this day, that I really have to work had to not have negative associations. I have thus far not made much progress, so I'm taking steps to rectify this.
So, in the spirit of creating new positive memories of this day I'm going to admit to something I've been holding onto for far too long.
I am not a cis man, and have known this for many years. I have not yet arrived at my ideal gender configuration, so for now I am non-binary because I am amid the transitional stage. This may not be a shock to anyone that follows me, since I have had been very vocal about my support for the trans community, but there are a lot of people under the queer umbrella that I want rights and support for that I do not necessarily identify with.
In the previous iteration of my bio, I asked that people call me Steve in reference to the fact that at the time I viewed myself as an utterly unremarkable brown-haired cis-hetero white dude, which was a rather inescapable archetype in a lot of media at the time (and still is tbh). This was just another way I was oppressing myself, and I want to move on from that.
So call me Dee. And I use They/He pronouns.
