to restate an answer i gave a friend recently when asked about having changed my views on gender and feminism, it looks to me like gender expansion and gender abolition are trying to solve the same problem and square the same inconsistency. i just don't think that queer theory or gender expansion or mogai whatever sort of umbrella term for it succeeds.
a lot of the time when i discuss it directly one-on-one with someone, i really think it comes down to stupid semantic crap. when a mostly atheistic xenogender person is telling me that their gender identity is individual, i think we're using different words for the same thing. on the one hand, this makes me feel a lot of compassion for them (and is why i aligned with that for so long), but on the other hand, that's exactly why it's completely unacceptable for them to use such violent, hyperbolic language about denial of their existence, wishes to kill terfs, and threats of suicide. i think it was totally unacceptable that i said those things too and i seek forgiveness from nobody for my part in that bullshit.
i want to avoid reblogging such language from radfems too, because it's not where i stand and i hate that "they" are sincere in their threats but "we" are just venting. even so, even if every radfem on this website just rabidly posted nothing but death threats and violence all day long, and all tras posted just little mameshiba smol beans forever, even so there's no pope of queer theory or president of radical feminism. they're just schools of thought and everyone cherry-picks what they agree with and like out of everything in the world. i don't have to buy every item of clothing in a shop just because i like one shirt they have, i'll buy what i need and want. i already am taking the bad with the good by sifting through books and lectures and tumlr blogs and learning from what i like and taking apart what i don't. bfd.
i think radical feminism is the compassionate ideology, regardless of hateful words by individual radfems. i think queer theory is the harmful ideology, regardless of the compassionate words by individual tras.
