You know I will actually
Happy pride you filthy animals
Happy Pride month y'all
cool. another black child died in a hate crime
A South Carolina jury on Monday found a store owner not guilty of murder in the 2023 shooting of a Black 14-year-old.
apparently the murder happened in 2023 after doing some research but the murderer has been found not guilty.
black children get murdered and become victims of hate crimes every fucking day. this is ridiculous
im posting this here despite the website being extremely white centered, I want people to understand how in this country it's basically ok to murder and victimize black people, especially women and children in the name of "self defense" and white America will reward you for your antiblackness.
THIS RIGHT HERE
You guys are dangerously close to realizing specifically what kinds of people they keep from voting and why.
I want to drill this into everybody’s head:
The United States of America has the highest prison population in the world
Black Americans and Latin people make up the majority of this population (many of whom are non-violent offenders)
Federal Prisons in America require that their state keeps their prisons at a maximum occupancy at all times.
The 13th amendment did not entirely abolish slavery…just one form of it. It remains legal through industrial prison system
Oh and we have privatized prisons which allow companies to actually make money off of keeping people incarcerated
Here’s what’s really perverse: prisoners, who cannot vote, still get counted in the U.S. Census. The more prisoners a county has, the more representation it gets, even though the prisoners cannot vote. See how that works? The more black and brown people they lock up, the more government resources and political representation they get. Even though those prisoners have no say and cannot vote.
If county-A has a population of 50 voters but no prisons, and county-B has a population of 50 voters and 50 prisoners, the county with the prisoners gets more government funding and more political represention. This is sometimes called “prison gerrymandering” and it is used in redistrictring.
Not so fun Fact: Southern states that reliably vote for Republicans also have the highest prison population in the United States. (source). So mass incarceration is a double whammy. It’s both a form of voter suppression and a tool to strengthen white people’s political power.

Bonus: If I buy a book I get to keep it! The publisher can't turn up at my house at random and confiscate all the books I bought.
Happy pride to black trans people in particular I know it can be tough out here with how often the image of what and who counts as always seems to never consider us
something you don't learn until you get really far into the making and tinkering life is that there's no such thing as "glue" really. there are so many kinds of substances that stick other substances together and they are all very different and if you just go look at the adhesives aisle in the hardware store the packaging never actually tells you anything useful. it's like "this is SUPER T-REX POWER GLUE" and the fine print says "good for use on wood metal and plastic". okay. but WHICH PLASTICS MY GOOD BITCH,
because SURPRISE, there's no such thing as "plastic" either. every kind of wood is basically the same on a chemical level, but the only thing every plastic has in common is "some of its molecules are long" and that is NOT a quality that determines how things stick together.
I just ordered some stuff I hope will permanently stick a circuit board to a steel sheet and withstand temperatures up to 150 degrees. by the way circuit boards are made of epoxy-bound woven glass cloth which is cool as hell but what the fuck do you glue that with? can any of the 12 kinds of adhesives I currently own do that? no of course not. if I want to stick two pieces of acrylic together so hard they become watertight to a depth of 3000 metres I have some shit that does that, but it does literally nothing else.
anyway. once you start learning how many kinds of sticking things together there are, the people at 3M start to seem like witches and I don't know if they're the kind we can trust with that level of arcane knowledge
Can I introduce you to one of the most useful sites from the early web? It’s thistothat.com and it tells you what kind of adhesives work to stick different types of substances together. It looks like it was designed in 1999 with some ads slapped over the top, because it was designed in 1999…. But like most things from the early web, it does what’s on the label: tells you how to stick this to that.
Arcane knowledge my ass, the internet used to be useful about shit.
Palantir CEO Alex Karp recently rhapsodized that US air strikes on Venezuelan civilians would be good for business, if only it were legal.
i have a suggestion
i'd suggest instead- a coup
these problems will not go away with this administration, my suggestion is that the system needs to go
we gotta get back to torrent distribution, i just watched someone eat eight grand in bandwidth charges because they ran a direct-download piracy site with local file hosting through cloudflare. torrents were invented literally for this exact reason
torrents work like this
i have a file or folder on my pc that i want to share with other people. let's call it gayshit.mp3
unfortunately gayshit.mp3 is 750mb and im not paying for discord nitro so i need another way to send it
i put it into qbittorrent and it makes a torrent file. this is essentially a very small file that points to gayshit.mp3 so other computers can find it. kinda like a treasure map
i send this tiny file to my friend, who loads it into qbittorrent. their computer takes a moment to find mine over the vast expanse of cyberspace and then (as long as my pc is running and the file is still where it should be), it gets copied from my hard drive to theirs
this is the cool part: if somebody else loads that tiny file, they can download it from both of us. if i'm offline but my friend is on, the third person can still get it. this also means that if two people have separate halves of the file, they can download the other half from each other. as long as some combination of people have the pieces between them, they can all have the whole thing.
crucially this does not require a server!!! you can just upload the file to a few people and as long as they keep it, it's still accessible. as long as somebody, somewhere is still connected, it's available forever. the only way it goes away is if everybody disconnects from it.
please learn to torrent
An expert guide to get started using torrentsTorrents are one of the most popular forms of file sharing on the internet, accounting for over
always use qbittorrent, do not use bittorrent or utorrent.

I am dangerously broke and need some help!
I get paid on Friday, but I am struggling to afford food and supplies needed this week. An unfortunately timed bill has made things a bit too close for comfort. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Go to paypal.me/rachelj1994 and type in the amount. Since it’s PayPal, it's easy and secure. Don’t have a PayPal account? No worries.
Also if people could reblog this that would be helpful!
I ran out of food last night. I am also £7 overdrawn
sleep disorders/conditions affecting sleep are no fucking joke man. they're more than just "takes an hour to fall asleep." like yeah that sucks but.
sleep issues can make people sleep all day and be awake all night no matter what they do. they can make people sleep for over half the day every day. they can make people stay up for over 24 hours frequently - and it just goes up from there. being up for days at a time just unable to sleep.
they can make people have a completely unpredictable sleep schedule too. not everyone is capable of going to bed and waking up at generally the same time, or maintaining it.
all this could be more temporary, or it could just be indefinite. like. having to live your life not knowing if you will or will not be conscious at any given time. you can't plan for fucking anything. you can miss almost every plan or event or obligation.
and everyone just hates you for it pretty much, thinking you're irresponsible and lazy.
be nicer to people with sleep problems. they make you physically and mentally feel like shit. they're not a choice.
your twenties are not "late" to start hrt. that is a normal time to start hrt. your thirties are also a normal time to start hrt. your seventies are pretty late to start hrt, but not too late. like, statistically, that's at the end of the curve. but if you are not dead, it is not too late for hrt.
If you wish that you could start HRT, it is the exact right time to start HRT.
Safety is important, too. You are right.
I also didn't sort my mess out until age 37, so I'm glad that you were able to get there!

when i got my medical certificate i very confidently answered the question "what do you do if a person becomes unconscious?" with "remove from the room immediately" only to be met with puzzled silence by the instructor and that's when i learned that the deeply ingrained nautical fear and grim reality of seamen and their rescuers asphyxiating in enclosed spaces due to build up of toxic gas or especially lack of oxygen does not translate to land.
all jokes aside i do think it should translate to land. while no one should walk around with a fear of closed windows or carry around a gas-detector as most places are properly ventilated, and these issues are fairly uncommon, i think the following is still sound advice outside of cargo holds.
if you are in an enclosed space without air circulation (e.g. a basement), especially one that bears a risk of oxygen depletion (storage of fruits and vegetables, wood, or large amounts of rusting steel, all things that turn oxygen into carbon dioxide), and you start feeling light-headed, LEAVE before you sit down. GO OUTSIDE.
at best you can regain your bearing and air out the room before continuing, avoiding unconsciousness, brain damage or worse, and at worst you left a room for no reason. this has been a nautical best practice PSA
This is why you don’t crawl down random caves, abandoned mines, or big drain pipes or whatever in the spirit of adventure. I’ve seen maintenance crews in storm drains (Which should already be somewhat ventilated) use a special air pump that circulates fresh air down to where they are working.
My mom worked with EMT up in the mountains, and one year they did a training exercise. The EMS people pulled up to the "emergency" area and saw an overturned tractor trailer and several "bodies." The EMTs walked over all confident in their ability to pass the tests and move on when the instructors would come over and tell them "hi! Y'all are now dead. Please join the bodies on the ground."
She said only the third ambulance or so to arrive stopped and counted bodies and ambulances already on the scene and looked at the truck. It had all "POISON" hazard signs. Every team that walked too close "died" of chemical asphyxiation. I think they all learned something that day.
So.
Yeah.
It's a lesson that is relevant on land too.
Counterpoint: we should also fear rolled-up windows and be aware that many public spaces are NOT properly ventilated.
CO2 should be below 800ppm to avoid symptoms like lethargy and headaches caused by dying brain cells but if you're a rich dork walking around with an Aranet you'll see readings on public busses exceeding 2,000 ppm. You'll see better readings in locations frequented by rich people - bougie stores and offices - than you will in locations where poor people live, and you'll start making connections between poor air quality and bad health outcomes among poorer people. You'll realize that the reason you used to fall asleep as a kid in class very likely had to do with the fact that putting thirty people in one room with closed doors and windows is a ventilation nightmare, and you might start to question the conventional wisdom that kids are germ factories and start to see in the prevalence of illness among school-age kids an example of an invisible divide that gives clean air to those at the top of the social hierarchy and forces certain categories of people to make do with recycled breathing from others' lungs.

I reblogged this yesterday, but I want to reblog it again. Diabetic ketoacidosis turns your blood acidic and will essentially burn you from the inside out.
The stories you hear of people dying from rationing, this is what happens to their body.
Affordable insulin isn’t just a right, it’s a necessity.
No one should have to die like that when it’s preventable with access to proper medication.
My insurance is refusing to cover this med now
Ask them (or get your healthcare provider to ask them) the NPI (National Provider Identifier) of the physician that decided your insulin was not medically necessary along with their reasons for that decision.
This is information you are entitled to by law, as they are decisions about your health.
Someone who isn't a doctor making that call is illegal, but obviously it was an intern or a machine, so you've got a non-zero chance they'll fold.
