Alongside comic books, I've still been reading literary classics. I've finished #TheBlackTulip by #AlexandreDumas. Set in the 1670s, this historical novel focuses on the tulip-fancier #CornelisVanBaerle's aspiration to cultivate the world's first black tulip and the dangers he goes through to this end. It also reflects the #tulip mania & the Dutch politics of the era—it's thoroughly exciting, and Dumas' narration is truly gripping. #IsaacBoxtel, with his legendary jealousy, and #Rosa, with her devotion and love, are unforgettable characters. I also loved the humor & the use of irony in the #novel. I've just finished #SecretWars (1984-85) by #JimShooter, Marvel's first major crossover event, which has left a great mark on comic book world. Actually, I couldn't find its first issues very interesting but it gets absolutely far better as it goes on—I loved the issues 11 & 12! In this popular limited series, many things happen that has iconically and radically changed the Marvel Universe and especially #SpiderMan's life—like the black symbiote suit! And #DoctorDoom, with his ambition and intelligence, fascinates—I love him even more now! ~ Çizgi roman dünyasına büyük damga vuran, Marvel'ın ilk büyük crossover (farklı çizgi romanlardan karakterlerin bir araya geldiği) olayı, Jim Shooter'dan #GizliSavaşlar'ı henüz bitirdim. Top 10 books I enjoyed reading in 2022 most. My readings this year have been dominated by Jorge Luis Borges and Marvel comic books. In the first half of the year, I read five Borges works, and I was fascinated by the Borges' creativity and use of intertextuality. I read Les Misérables by Victor Hugo, in two huge tomes, which has become the longest book I've ever read. In the summer, I took a long break from reading classics and Instagram because of some exams I had. Having always been a Marvel Comics fan, I became more interested in reading comics than ever during that time I took break. If I exclude each and every comic book issue I've read, I've read 26 books this year (27 with Les Misérables' second tome); if I include them, I've over 250. A little change of theme: For slightly over 6 years, I've shared 600 posts about pre-20th century literary works, nearly 300 of which are my reviews. As you may have noticed for a month, I have been enjoying comics for a while. As of the new year, I'm going to share more about comic books and graphic novels. I still love and will occasionally share old classic literature—Victorian novels and epic poetry will always stay my favorites. But still, a change has been needed. It's not only about aiming the good, or the distinction between virtues and vices, but also about attaining pleasure and "#eudaimonia" (meaning happiness or welfare), which Aristotle named the highest state in life, by living virtuously, righteously. I've just read the graphic novel X-Men: #GodLovesManKills by #ChrisClaremont and #BrentAnderson. It's the strongest example that X-Men is a metaphor for the downtrodden and the outcast, those ostracized for being "different". A reverend, #WilliamStryker, bigotedly and hatefully thinks mutants must be eradicated, scapegoating them for the world's corruption, regarding them as cursed and inferior to humans, just for being different. As some mutants are cold-bloodedly killed by a group called "#purifiers", the X-Men, who advocate tolerance and living in harmony with mankind against hate and discrimination, unexpectedly join forces with their foe #Magneto, who insists on mutants' superiority… A dark and powerful work bringing comic books and philosophy, ethics, together. ~ Chris Claremont ve Brent Anderson'dan X-Men: #TanrıSeverİnsanÖldürür grafik romanını okudum. I wanted to read some non-fiction, a #psychology book for a change. #TheWolfman is one of #SigmundFreud's case-studies, on a young man who had an infantile neurosis and psychotic episodes. Freud nicknames him "#wolfman", owing to his patient's dream involving wolves, which he analyses in depth in the work. He also analyses the wolfman's childhood experiences, fears, religious ideas and relation with his father. He eventually explains that Oedipal fixation and castration anxiety underlie the problem, demonstrating the significance of the unconscious. I've read a #psychoanalysis study for the first time, and I don't regret it—it's intriguing and somewhat shocking. ~ Bir değişiklik olsun diye biraz kurgu dışı, bir psikoloji kitabı okuyayım dedim. Previously revived by a cosmic force, Jean Grey transforms into something that can harm the ones she love and the entire universe. Triumph, tragedy and uncontrollable, corrupting power have never been told so well as this. A space opera not only an action-packed science fiction epic but also a star-crossed love story. This masterpiece is the finest Marvel comic book I've read so far. [What I read when I was away from Instagram, November 5-8] #Siddhartha by #HermannHesse. I can say I enjoyed this one—and it's truly a comforting book; however, it's not as groundbreaking a work as some claim it to be. What this book offers to the readers can be found in many self-help and philosophical books, especially those related to spiritualism and the Buddhism. I'm sure that Buddhist teachings many years before Hesse said the same things—so this novella doesn't give anything original much in my opinion. Even so, there are several great quotes in it. ~ [5-8 Kasım] Hermann Hesse'den Siddhartha. Bunu beğendiğimi söyleyebilirim—ve gerçekten de rahatlatıcı bir kitap; fakat bazılarının iddia ettiği kadar da ezber bozan bir eser değil.
