We could go at length about how much we love RoLo, Romy, Jotts, and Cheriks, like nghhhhhh. There are more obscure ships, like Riptide x Azazel and there's a twist there, too...

I'm always disappointed when a Charles Xavier design doesn't have him being disabled. Beyond the obvious history of ableism with the character and general erasure of disability representation in media, especially superhero media. And he's one of the few WHEELCHAIR users in superhero comics.
But also him with mobility aids is always just a COOLER design. I'm disappointed about the Krakoa era having him be walking without mobility aids because him having some sort of high tech leg braces that allows him to walk (similar to the ones he has in the Wolverine and the X-Men animated series, just maybe more sleek and futuristic) would be such a cool design element that would still show him as a disabled character.
Or even just him having a cane. Canes look cool.
I have a few sketches of possible designs I have in mind, but no finished drawings yet. I think details of mobility aids in more scientifically developed societies are really cool from a world building standpoint and a design standpoint, and Marvel just sort of removing that from Charles, who is a very important disabled character with an interesting story arc related to his disability, is disappointing.
It also took away from a possible storyline in Krakoa of Charles learning to accept his disability as a part of his identity the same way he accepted being a mutant, which would've tied into the idea of Krakoa being a place where mutants can be themselves, not just in the way of using their powers, but by also accepting who they are as a real world minority.
I don't know, I'm just sort of ranting but I've been thinking about this for so long.
Thatâs so valid because not only is it erasure but his design is also so much less interesting when heâs able bodied too! Charles is an inventor he can make himself wheelchair gadgets + cool disability aids and obviously if a writer just cares enough they can write a story where Charles is a disabled man easy. Like In the Excalibur (2004) run! Which I recommend. they wrote him as wheelchair bound the entire run. They even showed him struggle because of his disability. Which I find important.
But they also showed him adapt.
We saw him use disability aids a couple of times! Here heâs strapping his legs so he can swim without them flailing
In contrast to Max who has them free.
We see him need assistance to get out of bed.
Weâve actually only seen him use bars like these one other time in X-Men comics. (Which is ridiculous) The excalibur series proves that they can make an interesting and engaging story with Charles as a wheelchair user. His disability is a part of his character and it isnât just used as an obstacle to overcome while still showing it isnât easy, he struggles with being a disabled man especially in such harsh circumstances. so naturally heâs left more vulnerable then others when he canât use his telepathy.
Heâs very underestimated because of his disability in this too. (Ableist slur used below)
Which is funny because he isnât at all weak still. Heâs capable and one enemy found that out the hard way đ (ableist slur used below)
He has a bit more of a relationship with his disability overall and it matters to his character and story.
Itâs casual itâs natural and honestly a huge improvement on Claremontâs end because he previously wrote his disability in ways I found questionable before. if this is not proof he can be written well as a wheelchair user while being badass then what is? And yeah him having leg braces has been done before too!
And of course the cane look is really badass to me.
I do hope that they try and retcon that Charles wasnât completely able-bodied during the events on krakoa and was lying to sell the land as a âparadiseâ to mutants and his internalized ableism made him feel like that him being brought back to life still disabled somehow sullied that image? I donât know, I think that could work! Very recently Charles was mentioned to have participated in the capitol crawl. A real life protest for disabled peopleâs rights. This is One of the first mentions of not just his disability in recent comics but also a look at Charles perhaps not just despising being a disabled man?
Either way there is truly no reason for krakoa or any modern comic to make Charles completely able bodied because itâs obvious he can be written properly as a disabled man in a variety of ways! It takes away from his character. Unique designs. And most importantly representation. In a world of characters that can adapt and be whoever they want with amazing gifts they canât believe or accept a disabled man being who he wants and growing to not just hate his disability? I find that hard to believe and somewhat cruel. Coming from someone who likes the mutant metaphor X-Men comics can be really diverse and well written but they can also be hard on real diverse stories too. They arenât perfect. They need to tell stories about actual minorities with as much tact as they do the metaphorical ones or else it falls apart.

My version of Eris was inspired both by the Greek myths and by Discordianism, a belief system from the 1960s in which chaos and discord are thought to be just as important as order. When I recently heard the song "The Golden Goddess" (about Discordian Eris) by the industrial rock band Morlocks, I just had to draw my version of Eris.
