My dad has worked in construction is whole life, primarily with a company that does concrete foundations, and I immediately sent him this back when I first found it on TikTok, and he IMMEDIATELY shared it with everyone he worked with. They apparently still quote it on his job sites to this day.

honestly the funniest thing about the lord of the rings is how gandalf is literally a minor god sent to middle-earth by The Big Man Himself and yet literally nobody apart from the elves seems to recognise this or take him seriously

like yeah gandalf is pretty grumpy most of the time but how would YOU feel if you were the fantasy equivalent of an angel and a bunch of people who only come up to your knee were just like “oh fuck it’s that spooky old wizard” every time you showed up for a friend’s birthday party

Third thing is that Hobbits build increasingly elaborate road systems to Keep Gandalf Out, which is really the sort of nonlethal enviormental enrichment he needs

Speaking as someone fast approaching 50, I see in Gandalf someone who is Tired™ and while he will not often smile, he adores the quietness of the Shire and also finds great joy in messing with people who take themselves too seriously
