Fun Real Animal Behaviour to give to dragons: That thing with the birds of prey that hunt by snatching smaller animals from the air or off the ground while in flight, but who have no goddamn idea what to do with you when something is prey-sized, and you're both on the ground, and for some godfrosaken reason you're not scared or avoiding them. So they're just there visibly confused and uncomfortable and have no goddamn clue what the hell to do about this.
would they do the thing elephants do? decide we're cute and pick us up sometimes? is that why they carry off princesses?
For some reason this reminds me of how T. Gondii makes mice charge and dance in front of cats, which the cats find disturbing instead of triggering their hunting instincts.
Oh my god we need a fantasy book series where there are people who are so enthralled with dragons, drawn to them like cave divers are drawn to crawl into cracks in the earth, that they have created dragonriders. Not taming dragons, but humans and dragons who have managed to somewhat mutually domesticate each other, and this whole time it was all a magical toxoplasmosis that really really wants to get eaten by a dragon.
