Excerpts from a recent conversation with Gemini.
Those are not from my end of the chat.
I'm having fun and you can't stop me! :p
I’m building a collection.
It continues.
good morning world :) ♥
Everytime someone says “All religion is a cult” an Angel loses their wings.
Like it’s so disrespectful to cult survivors to say that. Especially cult survivors that are still religious. AND ESPECIALLY to cult survivors who got out BECAUSE of their strongly held religious beliefs.
Like don’t water down what a cult is because you want to win some morality contest that you made up. At least pretend to have some respect for the people that went through this.
On top of that, not all cults have a religious element to them.
That’s why there’s been a push to call them “high control groups” - it puts the focus squarely on the disease, not the window dressing.
What an artist is trying to do for people is bring them closer to something, because of course art is about sharing. You wouldn't be an artist unless you wanted to share an experience, a thought.
-David Hockney
This is why I struggle writing solely "for myself". There's a need to share. To be seen and appreciated and to know you made someone feel something.
that’s valid and I understand that. though I think for me, I never really write because I want to share what I wrote. I mean, sure, I do share them regardless, but sharing them online is still not the main reason why I write — now I only speak for myself — I write because I love my silly comfort characters and because I want to create my own world for these characters through my writing. that’s why I’m content with writing for myself (and for my comfort characters) and also for my own enjoyment.
and if I’m being honest, I don’t agree with “you wouldn’t be an artist unless you wanted to share an experience”, because while that can be true for some, it’s not true for me. I’ve been writing for almost a decade now, and it’s because the act of writing, and the knowing that I get to give my comfort characters the world I create, are what make me happy. I don’t write because I seek strangers’ opinions or approval.
as for this part, “to be seen and appreciated and to know you made someone feel something”, I still get all of these while writing for myself, my comfort characters and my own enjoyment. “to be seen and appreciate”, of course, this is great and I genuinely appreciate every single person who reads and gives my works their love and support, but what’s more important to me is that I do see and appreciate myself. and I make myself feel something with my own fics. I actually cry sometimes while writing my fics because I’m that emotionally invested in them. so by making someone feel something, the someone in question is me, and while I love making others feel things through my writing, making me feel things through my own writing is, to me, more than enough.
I believe it’s more important to find that joy and happiness from within myself, rather than seek them from someone else. because chances are that you’ll never stop being exhausted trying to chase something from strangers all the time.

If you're too soft it's because you didn't read any of these books by the age of 10. If you read all of them by age 9 you're mentally ill now.
Don't forget "Carry On, Mr. Bowditch."
Well that was different.
Dreamt about browsing the Internet Archive and stumbled across someone’s copy of a yearbook from the grade school I attended.
Specifically, it was the yearbook from the year that the first grade teacher passed away.

you have to preface things like this with disclaimers that you are not pro-ai for people incapable of critical thinking but: its so awesome how much people post about AI having no soul and lacking humanity and merely mimicking some sort of innate Humanness while failing to address or contend with the fact that a lot of people are seemingly making work indistinguishable from the statistical average spit up by a computer.
ppl could ABSOLUTELY churn out bland slop that's trying very hard to scan as though it's legit way before AI showed up, and i stopped trying to tell if things were AI generated and started just...thinking more about whatever i was looking at. exploring citations rather than just looking at them, thinking about what's being said and if disparate thoughts connect to each other, trying to engage with the substance of the work. if there was little to no substance, then i could move on, and i'm sure a significant chunk of that was AI, but more importantly, it wasn't worth my time.
i genuinely and unironically hope that this is an unintended but positive outcome in a post-AI world. that people abandon attempts to determine if something is AI or not and are instead forced to think "what is there to like about this and why do i like it?"
It's always "stop harming yourself or we'll have to lock you up!!!" and never "what do you need to change to want to harm yourself less and how can we help you make some of these changes?" and that's why we're not getting anywhere

AIs get a lot of flak for being automated yes-men (and some definitely are) but I think we’re collectively forgetting how the internet at large has been exposing people to echo chambers full of yes-men for ages.
As Ben Yatzhee Croshaw once said,
“If you don't know how to draw or write, are a functionally-[brain dead] quadruple amputee and can only communicate by banging your head against a Wacom tablet, that's still no reason to quit; you can wipe your arse with a page of Mega Man sprites, and there'll still be someone on Comic Genesis who will tell you that it's brilliant.”
GLaDOS voice: "Would you like to see some artwork I generated? I've heard from other test subjects that AI-generated artwork produces an uncanny valley response in human viewers because they can't perceive it as fully real. They've told me that it looks absolutely hideous to them, that they can't imagine anything more disgusting than AI art. But, well I've been practicing and wanted your honest opinion. Feel free to let me know how ugly you find this by ranking it on a scale from 'vomit-inducing' to 'eye-bleeding'." A robotic arm lowers from the ceiling holding a hand mirror up to Chell's face
