i think some of you dont like narratives or stories or characters i think you just like fanfiction tropes
protagonists can and will be sexist, racist, insensitive, cruel, stupid, etc, especially towards the beginning of a story. these are called character flaws and they are a surprise tool that will lead to narrative fulfillment later
And sometimes "narrative fulfillment" doesn't mean "the character overcomes their flaws" or even "the antihero is punished for their flaws"! sometimes it means the narrative says "wow was that fucked up or what? anyway i'm rod sterling"
I don't think the current "depiction = endorsement" crowd will ever be able to understand this.
I know the "disabled villain" trope isn't good representation but y'know. I DO kind of get it. Sometimes my whole body hurts so bad that I could probably make an evil death laser. Sometimes things claim to be wheelchair accessible and are so incredibly inaccessible that I consider world domination just to fuckin fix it. I can see the appeal of becoming Evil And Scary to stop the stares. I am tired of being Polite and (ironically) Accommodating, answering "what's wrong with you?" over and over. Having minions would also be quite helpful.
Step 1: Okay, this porn is clearly ridiculous, but it's got me curious – exactly how much semen could a human body plausibly produce?
Step 2: Surely someone's already done the math on this. Let's check the usual sources.
Step 3: Stumble upon a paper discussing which types of mating competition exert selective pressure in favour of high semen volume.
Step 4: Go down an evolutionary biology rabbit hole.
Step 5: End up devising a whole alternative evolutionary history for humanity's proto-hominid ancestors to justify otherwise anatomically modern humans who bust like a fire hose.
Step 6: Wait a minute.
Step 7: I'm not even into hyper kink.
Step 8: What the fuck.
@bendandsnap-cummerbund replied:
You’re on to evolutionary history, meanwhile I’m wondering how the modern world changes. Do sewers and drains need to be built with more capacity?
Probably not? The maximum plausible output per ejaculation coincidentally turns out to be in the same ballpark as the average human bladder capacity (and memes about shower drains notwithstanding, semen doesn't harden like glue; it denatures and loses most of its viscosity within minutes of ejaculation), so any drainpipe that can handle a hearty piss should also be able to handle biologically plausible hyper jizz.
what were the evolutionary pressures OP????
There are apparently a couple of different mating competition scenarios that favour high ejaculatory volume, though they both involve aggressively polyandrous mate selection; i.e., females who preferentially mate with large numbers of males in rapid succession in order to maximise the genetic diversity of their potential offspring.
In the first scenario, most commonly observed in mammals, high ejaculatory volume is favourable for latecomers (pardon the pun) because it allows them to physically displace the contributions of earlier males – in essence, pressure-washing their predecessors' contributions out of the female's reproductive tract. In species whose males employ this strategy, it's often the case that sperm is only released partway through ejaculation, with the first few "blank" shots serving to clear the path.
In the second scenario, typically found in arthropods, fertilisation does not coincide with intercourse, with the female possessing an internal receptacle where sperm is stored for later use. In species where this is the case, males sometimes display exaggerated semen production in what seems to be an effort to cut rival males off at the pass by filling the female up completely. Such males may ejaculate more or less vigorously depending on whether or not they can see any potential competition, conserving resources when they're the only ones around.
@marmorenshud replied:
Ig is never considered this before bc of human pregnancy, but when you have a litter, is it possible that the individual offspring can have different individual fathers? Like a sperm from different fathers attach to a different eggs and they all carry to term? Bc having more sperm would not make it any more genetically diverse if there's only one baby, right? It's still just the one sperm?
It's quite common in species which employ polyandrous mate selection for different individuals in the same clutch or litter to be the offspring of different males, yes. Some of the stuff I've read suggests that there are a couple of potential advantages to this approach even when only a single offspring is produced, though:
If you're producing several offspring in succession and aren't necessarily keeping track of which ones are the offspring of which particular males, an easy way to ensure genetic diversity among successive offspring is simply to fuck lots of males and let the sperm competition lottery sort it out.
In species which employ this strategy, a male's ability to devote large amounts of resources to semen production may play a secondary role as a signal of physical (and, by proxy, genetic) fitness.

you know you're in a special circle of tv hell when you start hypothesising that maybe it was written bad on purpose
if you find yourself thinking "maybe the writing is this bad on purpose" just remember: it isn't. and it will probably get worse. not on purpose. it's not fucking bad on purpose.
Once again bringing up the fact that albinism is always tied to varying degrees of visual impairment. Disability is inherent in our condition and glossing over this (due to ignorance or not) is an act of ableism and fetishisation. Before you create an original character or any sort of fiction you ought to not stick to lazy research. Albinism affects real people, not just animals and social stigma because of our looks is only half of the story. Please do not contribute to a superficial understanding of an already rare and not researched enough condition, happy 10 years of international albinism awareness day.
No i havent outgrown it because i had great taste at 7 years old
on Planet Where Everyone Can Teleport the first person on the moon went there by accident and promptly died. The next dozen or so people also went by accident, and also died. Number 14 figured out that people who go to the moon die and very cleverly brought a sword and six weeks of travel rations. This did not help.
No one on Planet Where Everyone Can Teleport ever figured out why people die in space because they don’t need airplanes and never found it particularly interesting to climb tall mountains. Astronomers use telescopes to take pictures of the ever-growing pile of corpses on the moon.
“why don’t they teleport back” because they’re not on the planet where everyone can teleport anymore. try to keep up dumbass
#this feels like a fable that would have some kind of moral but I’m not quite sure what#something about like hard work/effort/the need to be curious idk
the moral of the story is that a breathable atmosphere is important to one’s general well-being
Discworld AU where everything is the same except it's traditional for noble families to send their children to be educated at the Fools' Guild instead of the Assassins' Guild school
I mean to be fair they're a bunch of clowns already so how much difference would it really make
#this is one of the most vimesian things i've ever said lmao#anyway brb i've gotta think about what this means for vetinari re: mimes#is he a thwarted mime?#was he bullied by mimes?#did he have a tragic teen romance with a mime that broke his heart?#anything is possible

I love when you’re reading multiple fics by the same author and you start to spot all the phrases and adjectives they like to use
I ghostwrote these tags my god
all politics about ai aside if you use it to create fanwork you're just a fucking dweeb
not to show my jock colors on this my nerd blog but the whole fucking point is that it's for love of the game. sweat over it or get the fuck out. i'm no gatekeeper but if you're using ai you're not even playing. you're trying to pave over the baseball diamond and make it a parking lot.
don’t go for realism in your art if it frustrates you, get weird, get blocky, get wiggly, just try and draw what makes you happy, not something that meets a standard
"Haha I want the feel of tumblr in another community but I want them to be user-funded. Bleebus.shart seems like the answer but they won't let me upload files above 8 megs so..."
I am saying this so gently and with no condescension: no website with two braincells to rub together will allow you to upload 8 meg+ files without the cash outlay being offset by VC or data brokering. Nobody. If they say they are doing it, they are lying to you about how the website is funded or they have the budgeting skills of a 10-year-old.
there's a reason cohost (rest in peace) flopped after a handful of years of operation, while dreamwidth has been running without debt since 2009
cohost had unlimited image hosting. didnt even compress or shrink images you uploaded in any way. this made the website very attractive to furry porn artists, and also did NOT help them pay off their initial venture funding debt or server costs. i loved *using* cohost, but it did not have a sound plan for how to pay for itself.
dreamwidth is user funded (with a small and dedicated core userbase that is *unusually* willing to shell out subscription cash for extra features, even accepting a recent price increase to match inflation) and Very Much Does Fucking Not have unlimited image hosting. You get a max of 500 mb worth of images on a free account, and also you can't hotlink your uploaded images off-site.
If you want a user-funded indie socmed, you're going to need to accept that images and video are costly, and always have been; the true cost has just been hidden from you for the last two decades. (It was a lot more visible when people were habitually trying to run their own websites in the 00's after the dot com bubble popped, let me tell you. How many fansites went down because the sitemasters could no longer afford to keep them online?) Re-orient around text.
are.... are we bleebus.shart

So uh….some dude apparently recreated Adobe Photoshop feature-for-feature, for FREE, and it runs in your browser.
Anyway, fuck Adobe, and enjoy!
Give credit to the 30-year-old who did this shit for free and offers this remarkable thing for free!
Adding this because it seems worth adding:
Thanks @lakritzwolf and @stabbyflower for asking questions and finding answers.
FYI, Agatha Christie's volunteer work during WWI was at a local hospital for service members. Eventually she trained as a dispenser (US term is generally pharmacy tech) and - gasp - put on the *payroll*!!
Her first book, The Mysterious Affair At Styles, used her pharmacy knowledge. Her favorite review of the book was from an industry journal.
In WWII, Christie updated her certification and worked in a hospital pharmacy near her apartment in London.
