one of the funniest conversations I ever had with my ex was when they were still getting used to Celsius and asked me "what's 20 degrees?" and instead of converting it, I said "it's the highest your dad will ever let you set the thermostat and when you say you're cold he tells you to put on another sweater, we're not made of money" and they went "oh, 68"

I get that when you're like. 21. or even 23, your teen years still feel very close to who you are now. like you'll think back to being 15 or 16 and it's like oh well that was only a few years ago, i haven't changed THAT much. and so it's hard to have this perspective of viewing 15 year olds as children because you still feel connected to that child.
then you hit 28, 29, 30+ and that part of your life becomes so much more distant. you look back at pics of yourself and you see a child. you see current teenagers and see children. so yes this is why i will never hold anything against somebody who did something stupid in their teen years. they were a child, surrounded by other children, all with not fully developed brains and barely any life experience/knowledge. if there is a clear separation from the child they were and the adult they are now, i see no point in even discussing it. it's SO benign and in my opinion deeply immature. it shows you lack the ability to recognize personal growth.

You know, I absolutely think there's a version of Shane who, after thinking long and hard about what he wants to do after retirement, sits his parents and Ilya down and tells them that after all the bullshit he and Ilya just went through in their last few years of playing, what he really wants is to be the new MLH Commissioner. He's already got a 10-year plan ready to go. God only knows if he'll actually do it, but he's going to give it a damn good go.
