I hate how 3 pm is so close to 2 pm so there's an illusion that there's still time left in the day to do things but in reality 3 pm is also close to 4 pm and if it's close to 4 pm you might as well just wait till tomorrow. <- can't argue against this by the way.
When I was a teen in the 2010s boys would call each other Gay to say they were too effeminate but now itâs 2026 and weâre âBetter Than Thatâ so I just overheard a kid on the bus tell his buddy âyou gotta get on T man cause you are NOT passingâ đđđđđ
If I was paid Iâd do a study on this
In one of my film classes last semester we had to tell a story in 3 pictures for a mini assignment so my friend and I did this
Happy 10 year anniversary to this post!

When I get blood samples at work sometimes theyâre still warm from being imminently inside the patientâs veins and my hands are always cold because all the labs Ive work in are in the basement and they keep it kinda cold for whatever reason (and Iâm also just a chilly kid).
And I clutch the little warm tubes of blood and feel this sick person warming my hands and I think about how kind you might be and how I wish I could hold your hand and how badly, how really really badly, I want you to get better and stay warm and hold someoneâs hand again.
And anyway sometimes itâs better to not think so vividly about the people Iâm doing tests for. Iâm a good little cog in a vast machine of people all trying to heal and cure, and my cog feels so fucking small sometimes. But I hope the blood I prepare for you helps you breathe better and laugh and wake up feeling well rested.
Weâve never met but you warmed my hands and I want you to know I love you and Iâm rooting for you.
I have over 40k notes on this and itâs the most wonderful thing I could have hoped would get tumblr-famous. I wish you all comfort and compassion every day
I feel like I need to share this because idk if Europeans are familiar with the presence of Aldi in the US, but at least especially in my area theyâve been growing a lot recently. Like Aldi bought out some local failing grocery chains where I live (Louisiana) and have opened Aldis in all these somewhat rural communities and small towns, which for the record Iâm fine with
But as a result of this they are advertising a lot more in my area and also in many cases, the people in these areas have never been confronted with Aldi or any European grocery store. So the ads that Aldi is pushing out to its new US customer base feature a cowboy shopping at Aldi who is explaining to new Aldi customers how Aldi works. Like this cowboy is explaining you gotta put a quarter in the shopping cart and why there are very little name brands. A cowboy is how they want to reach their American customer base. They gave us a cowboy
Here he is, the Aldi Cowboy
Pet owners, what kind of name does your pet have???
A food-item (Waffles, Peanut)
A color (Pinky, Hazel)
A real-life person (Marilyn, Paris)
A fictional character (Eevee, Simba)
A type of flora (Rosie, Willow)
Animal-like (Kitty, Gator)
A trait (Lucky, Buddy)
Something else
If you have more than one pet, choose the most applicable listed (ex: you have three pets named Cookie, Cream & Rocky, so you choose the âFoodâ option). Also, would be interested if you reblogged your petâs name(s) in the tags and the reason why you chose it ^^

Anti-city people are just plain fascinating to me
Tbf there's good reasons to not do mini-shopping each day, but like. If you live close to a shopping mart you *do* just push the trolley filled with your bags? And then bring it back? It's not a lot of effort in exchange for only having to deal with that amount of noise once a week????
You can also just buy your own folding cart. They're pretty cheap!
in a lot of major cities in the United States, you cannot take the shopping cart farther than the perimeter of the parking lot because either the wheels will lock, or store security will harass you. you very very much cannot take the shopping cart home with you.
so, yeah, a lot of people who live in the city and walk/public transpo to and from grocery stores either bring two or three very sturdy bags, their backpacks, or as @transarsonist said, a folding cart!
but this also means that people shop strategically--if there's something big they need, sure, they may drive, or they will plan ahead for that shopping trip and bring multiple people, or get the littler, less cumbersome items at another point in the week.
i can't describe to you how incredibly freeing it is to be able to walk/bike/public transpo to the places you need to go for the things you need. i wish more places were accessible like that in practice, not just theory (and even in USian big cities, there's a lot more theory than practice).
also, if the big supermarket is across town and you're doing a big shop, you normally take the bus. Most supermarkets have a bus stop outside specifically for this purpose. It turns what could be a long walk with a half-dozen big bags into 2 or 3 streets for most people.
If for whatever reason that isn't doable, there's always delivery. This is absolutely a solved problem.
i mean the core point of a "walkable neighborhood" like, a real one, is that you never really have to do that because theres an acceptable store every 6 blocks in every direction, and a corner store with snacks and some basics every couple of blocks, so you can usually get everything you need by making maybe one or two 3 block trips from any given point on the map.
the antithesis of the walkable city is for the supermarket to be in a space zoned "for super markets" where you would have to take the bus there.
That's even pretty low-intense walkable. The thing is that in cities like that, almost all the street-level slots are commercial, so it's shops all around, under the houses where people live. So more like a couple of corner stores per block, plus a mid-sized supermarket every couple.
Pictured: supermarket and grocery stores a few blocks away from my house, in the suburbs of Madrid:

Counter point, those machines can make me a peach sprite.
guys did you know the tech in that nefangled machine revolutionized preemie healthcare
yeah the guy who invented them made incredibly precise infusion pumps (as opposed to gravity fed ivs) which not only meant they could give medications to teeny tiny babies safely, it's also used for insulin pumps and portable dialysis machines. the key element is that it's a peristaltic pump so the liquid stays in sterile tubing for safety
(unholy drink cloaca uses it to dispense precise amounts of flavored sugar syrup)
Then how the haters loved him,
As they shouted out with glee,
"Unholy Drink Cloaca
You'll go down in history!"
You DON'T get this on any other site in quite this format.
that poll going around of the guy who thought "people only eat tofu as a bit because they're deranged vegans" or whatever really crystalizes something that i have never been able to precisely say - which is "a nonzero fraction of people who start picky-eater discourse just happen to precisely hate those foods which are not from north america and refuse to introspect on this whatsoever"
In contrast some people say "there aren't any picky eaters in Asia đ" but this is laughably untrue. I have a cousin in India who refused until his 20s to eat anything in a sauce. as you can imagine in India this was difficult. he basically had to pick things out of curry and wipe them dry

Listen, marketing-as-exploitation discussions aside, Rainbow Capitalism is, has been, and continues to be the canary in the coal mine of social acceptance for the queer community.
If youâll all pardon my Americentrism for a moment, the amount, visibility, and flamboyance of Pride merch available in clothing, home goods, and comestibles stores is a DIRECT reflection of how safe it is to be queer in public in the United States.
How? Simple. Out groups arenât profitable. If youâre not âacceptableâ in the current social climate, big franchise businesses will not market to you. (Prime example - Look how quickly Target dropped all their Pride merch after having been wall-to-wall rainbows every June for almost a decade prior.)
Sure, capitalism sucks and being viewed as an exploitable marketing demographic isnât a fun concept.
HOWEVER.
The grim truth is that being normalized enough to be considered profitable by corporations IS A GOOD THING in terms of the barometer of social acceptance.
Same thing goes for smaller businesses that throw kitschy Pride events or even just put a token rainbow flag in the window or somewhere inside the shop. Thatâs a level of acceptance that DID NOT EXIST thirty years ago, and I can tell you because I was there.
The fact that we can scoff and bitch about being an exploitable marketing demographic nowadays means we have made GIGANTIC strides since the 1990s. It also speaks to the fact that the drive and the conversation surrounding LGBTQ+ rights and acceptance are continuing. And getting louder.
You can be cynical about it if you want. But I will take a store that puts out lip-service rainbow merch over a world that pretends we donât exist any day of the week. Because that will always mean something.
Sincerely, An Elder Queer
Agreed, and also, it has always struck me as a little bit of a double-standard in queer politics when people used to point out the exclusion of queerness from mainstream capitalist products as evidence of their marginalization (e.g., there are no m/m or f/f wedding cards)
Yet, when they start being included, they are like âwell, thatâs just capitalism taking advantage of us, so it doesnât count.â Like, you canât use your EXCLUSION from something as evidence of general societal marginalization and then claim that once youâve started to be included, it is politically meaningless. You donât really get to have it both ways. Thatâs moving the political goal posts.
I get that we shouldnât consider Target pride merchandise as like the pinnacle of queer politics or even the pinnacle of queer inclusion. I get that inclusion in capitalist intuitions is a very ambivalent form of social progress. But the truth is, capitalism is a big part of what creates our social reality right now (unfortunately).
Capitalism makes TV shows, and movies, and books, and ads, and greeting cards, and toys, and clothing, and, andâŚ
When every single aspect of commercial social reality excludes queerness, that DOES create a real sense of social alienation. I donât love that capitalism is responsible for creating so much of our collective social reality. But granting that it does, I think weâre forced to accept that our inclusion in it IS politically and socially important.
And yes we should still be trying to resist capitalism as the primary means of meeting human needs. But we can resist treating capitalism as an inevitability or an inherent good, AND ALSO acknowledge that our inclusion within it remains politically important while it still holds so much power and responsibility for creating our shared reality.
