Congressman James Buchanan Barnes is a war hero, a national icon, and a man quietly drowning in the chaos of Capitol Hill. Enter Darcy Lewis - astrophysicist, former assistant to Jane Foster, and professional disaster magnet.

“As opposed to the guy who kisses her in an elevator and lets her think it’s because she was having a panic attack,” Sam said, throwing Bucky a side-long look. 

“First of all,” Bucky replied. “I told you that in confidence. Secondly-”

“So,” Sam said, cutting across him, not interested in weak excuses he’d already heard five times. “If I was having a panic attack, you’d kiss me?”

He’s so angry!

So if the line was “Bless your soul”, and the adverb I chose for it was ‘sadly’, I would get a much different vibe than if I chose ‘condescendingly’. And I’d have to show it in my body language too

And I think this’ll help for writing as well; for every line your character says, assign an adverb to it, and from there see if you can come up with body language that encompasses that. Have a few examples:

“I’m not scared.” <— defiantly

She scoffed as her eyes locked onto his. “I’m not scared.”

“I’m not scared.” <— fearfully

“I’m not scared,” she murmured, voice shaky as she forced herself to not look away

“I’m not scared.” <— soothingly

She set a steady hand on his chest, feeling the rapid beating of his heart beneath her palm. “I’m not scared,” she promised

So Logan fought in World War 2, right? And while he was in the Canadian Special Forces and thus didn't work with the American military on the regular, he did do a couple smaller missions with the Howling Commandos from time to time, when they needed a second heavy hitter and someone who could take injuries Cap wouldn't be able to. So while he wasn't a member of the team, they knew him and he knew them on at least a minor level.

So imagine, the aftermath of Winter Soldier, that news probably made national, if not international, news. It definitely reaches Westchester, New York, as DC isn't that far from New York. And maybe Logan hears the name "James Buchanan Barnes" and that gets his attention, or maybe he sees the face of the Winter Soldier and realizes that wait one second, he knows that face. And as the details about Bucky Barnes being made into a living weapon surface and Logan realizes that Barnes is probably going through the same thing he did, he decides to start looking. Barnes is moving around far too much, as is to be expected from a man on the run from Hydra and every government in NATO, so Logan has Xavier find him using Cerebro. With how scrambled Bucky's mind is it's hard for Charles to get a perfect lock, but he gets a general area and that's all Logan needs.

So Logan starts looking, and he finds a trail that leads him straight to Bucky's current bolt hole. He's met with the business end of a Heckler and Koch, but really, he'd expected Bucky would know he was being tracked. And sure, Barnes definitely doesn't recognize him. But Logan's a bit of an old hat at getting through to brainwashed people, and he'd done his research.

Name, date of birth, rank, serial number, hometown. His friends called him Bucky. The names of his friends, his family, and anyone else Bucky might remember. Including James Howlett, member of the Canadian Special forces, the guy with claws who took a hit from a missile and got right back up like it was nothing.

It takes some doing, but he gets through, and he manages to convince James to come with him somewhere safe, somewhere both Hydra and the government wouldn't think to look, and where they would never dare come for him if they found him. And even if they did, he would be completely safe. He manages to convince Bucky to come back with him to Westchester and gets him settled down in the X Mansion. Charles starts working with James like he does with Logan.

What needs to come next, obviously, is a story where Natasha can square this movie with her future. CA:TWS ends on a very similar note as The Avengers, with them going their separate ways but with the promise that when they’re needed, they’ll be back. How does she get to that, though? “When I joined SHIELD, I thought I was goin’ straight… but I guess I just traded in the KGB for Hydra”

comment on a really really long one-chapter fic, but take the time to note details that you liked! when a fic is long but just one chapter, comments tend to be more general because you can't remember that one moment you liked 20K words ago.
