I 100% agree that if you say you care about the issues, you should vote for the candidate you agree with the most. Especially in a two party system, where not voting for one candidate might as well be helping the other. However, I also firmly believe that the elections in democracies function are popularity contests, and that goes for any candidate.

My opinion is that, in America, with the way our two-party system works:

During the primary, vote with your heart.

During the general, vote pragmatically and for harm reduction. If you are not a rich and/or white, then 98% of the time, the Democrat is always better than the Republican.

Leftists have created an environment now where 2 might not be the case for much longer, since they created a scenario where Susan Collins was the actual lesser of two evils between her and Graham Platner. Impressive, honestly.
