They are an Assistant Professor of Media Industries at New York University and literally just finished writing The Apple II Age: How the Computer Became Personal, a book on the history of the computer industry in the 70s.

This tweet isn't just an observation, it's the result of years of research and study. And it's absolutely true.

#Pardon me for saying this but like... even if this were just some joe schmoe off the street the opinion would be no less true.#I'm not out here to discredit this woman's qualifications or anything.#I'm saying that we as a society for whatever reason only ever care about an opinion no matter how true or false it is; if it comes from #someone with a PHD. That's all the qualification they need in my book.#Never the less I think it's cool that this lady wrote a book and properly studied everything sure and I don't want to take away from #any of that! But I do think it's kinda sad that we ignore the people we think are unqualified and unrecompensed #We have this obsession with ''if you work in this field then you MUST know your stuff'' as though a hobbiest or someone with a passion #may not know it just as well if not better or even just know it differently and frankly I value those opinions just as much #I'm not standing here saying that I'd trust someone off the street to tell me a medical diagnosis #however if that person happens to be very passionate about illnesses and has in their own time spent their life researching #and doing whatever else even if they don't have a PHD even if they don't have a book #yea I'm far more likely to listen to them because they probably know what they're talking about. Even if they don't go to school or do it a #a job. However I will say I agree with the statement that is being made here and it's absolutely true #I hope the indie net gets some more traction because it'd be cool to see more people discover it

It seems to be yeah. That's rather unfortunate considering it's basically pay walled. If I can be honest I'm not opposed to someone charging for the work they do, especially when that work is any form of art. However when you're educating on any Native matter it feels a little insidious to charge people for that information. Obviously I'm not sitting here accusing the show runners/creators of being malicious, it's just annoying to me as someone who recently had one of my greatest resources for learning my Native language, a fucking dictionary; locked out behind a sudden and unnecessary subscription based pay wall. I see this constantly with regards to Native things, if there's something that would educate someone either about Native culture, or language it's typically going to be hard to access without payment or physically being somewhere to speak to a specific individual in person. As a Lakota who grew up in my culture and then being denied that culture, it's annoying for lack of a better word when I find something that would otherwise be a neat resource for learning what I don't know; and I'm asked to pay. It's different if I know it would at least go to Native people, I've purchased various books and resources for Lakota language in the past and I'm happy to do so when I know that money is at least going to my people.

Anyways thanks for the info! I might look into it but frankly I'm not looking to spend money on it. I'm just interested in learning more about Two Spirit because I've been identifying as such for about a year now. Based on what I know and who introduced me to the term (other Indigenous individuals) it's accurate but I'd love more information.

#nah but make the initial adopts super cheap first come first serve but make it so people can #trade/sell them to others. reinvent NFTs so the fandom ends up trying to trade and sell #fan favorite characters and as the series goes on the value of a character would change #given their popularity so if it turns out that character you were hoarding to sell at peak profits #said some problematic shit and became hated you're boned #but it turns out that this one side character is now part of the main cast #and they're really cool and they're non-binary and now you could sell them for a lot of money #but you also have a lot of eyes on you because you're the only one legally allowed to #draw anything of them so suddenly you're responsible for the fan base surrounding this #new very important and popular character that no one really cared about at first #you'd have people making insane offers and going ballistic if they were rejected #you'd have people making art they're not legally allowed to because someone is #hoarding all the super popular characters and refusing to trade or sell #but oh no the finale is coming up this could change everything #and who knows how popular these characters will be after the finale!#is it worth it to hold on to them for the sake of owning the characters or do you cash out #congratulations you've created the most toxic fandom it's NFT Bros but now they have #waifus and popularity to worry about oh boy! this will certainly never go wrong!
