A deputy is appointed leader when the former leader retires or loses all nine of their lives and dies. Retirement for leaders is common and socially encouraged, so seeing an elder leader stay in reign for long is rare. When a leader retires, they reach the Starpoint for a last time and surrender their remaining lives beyond their last. At that point, the deputy is granted lives of their own.

Bigstar of Valleyclan - he/him
Leader of Valleyclan, Bigstar was an emissary by the name of Bigheart before becoming deputy. He is amicable and friendly and takes a collaborative and open-to-learning approach to leadership. Bigstar gets along with all of the leaders, but is critical in private of Spiraeastar and Sablestar's readiness for conflict. He is very close with Ponderosastar, and their clans maintain a strong allyship. This is good for Valleyclan as Burnclan is their only neighbor. They rarely fight other cats thanks to this, and under his rule Valleyclan cats are known to be unscarred and especially peaceful.
Ponderosastar of Burnclan - she/her
Leader of Burnclan, Ponderosastar was a warrior by the name of Ponderosaclaw before promotion to deputy. She is quiet and observant, keeping both her feelings and the interclan issues of Burnclan close to her chest. Ponderosastar prefers peace, but has no qualms with resorting to combat to protect her borders and clan's interests. She gets on well with Bigstar, and with Fallclan on her other border she is cordial with their leader Glimmerstar but the two aren't so close as to be allies. At times of need she sometimes pushes her borders with Fallclan, causing some conflict. She sees Spiraeastar as immature and Sablestar as unpredictable.
Glimmerstar of Fallclan - any pronouns
Leader of Fallclan, Glimmerstar was once a mediator by the name of Glimmerdrop. It is suave and quick to gossip, seemingly despite its experience as a mediator. She likes to stay aware of what goes on with the other clans and can be a bit nosey. Glimmerstar doesn't typically start conflict, but is thoroughly fine with ending them need be. Although he's known to stay out of combat he is a very talented strategist. Glimmerstar gets along with Bigstar, is suspicious of Ponderosastar, and finds amusement from Spiraeastar and Sablestar's bickering. However, sharing a border with Marshclan, she tries to keep a close eye on Spiraeastar and wouldn't trust him as far as her whiskers.
Spiraeastar of Marshclan - she/he (pronounced spy-REE-uh)
Leader of Marshclan, Spiraeastar was once a warrior named Spiraealeaf. She is the youngest leader, and with that carries some insecurity. She can be prickly and quick to jump to conflict, believing strongly in protecting Marshclan's pride. He is a very loyal friend to his clan and family. He's also somewhat prone to influence from his clanmates, swaying to the anger of his clan regarding their tension with Treeclan. Spiraeastar isn't incredibly concerned with or interested in the other leaders, except for Sablestar, who she has great contempt for. They have had continuous tension and skirmishes across their borders, and she leans heavily into her niece Creampatch's anger towards Treeclan.
Sablestar of Treeclan - she/her
Leader of Treeclan, Sablestar was a warrior by the name of Sabletail before her promotion to deputy. She is reserved and secretive, putting on a face of authority and closing herself off from others' feelings. She even feels somewhat cut off from her own clanmates, which can cause interclan conflict. Deep down she wants connection, but doesn't feel she deserves it for crimes from her past. Sablestar feels neutrally about Ponderosastar and Bigstar, but she actually likes and confides often in Glimmerstar. She thinks Spiraeastar is immature and unwise, and will not turn away from conflict with Marshclan. Carrying the trauma of Treeclan's severe famine has left her untrusting of her neighbors when it comes to needing help.
he saved a full-time queen from a coyote that was chasing them, and got bit pretty seriously in the process. he'd have lost the eye no matter what, but the scar is so dramatic because he couldnt stop scratching it. his older sibling will never stop teasing him
