i've been asked where/how to find early-mid 20th century images of black people to reference when drawing/writing/whatever, so i figured i'd link to my own personal resource anyone is welcome to utilize! :)

with over 900 pins and counting, this pinterest board focuses entirely on black style from the 1800s - 1970s. it’s been harder than ever to research historical fashion without running into AI, misinformation, and flat out mislabeling of different eras, so i’ve done my best to represent each period as accurately as i can.

i’ve included sections for non-caricatured art and illustration, print media, music, entertainment, styling tools, and ads. there are also sections for period pieces and more modern takes on vintage style. i did not add the 80s and 90s because there's already a wealth of imagery and information about those decades, but maybe one day :)

The 1974 Equal Credit Opportunity Act (ECOA) is the source of the common claim. It made it illegal for creditors to discriminate against applicants based on sex or marital status in any aspect of a credit transaction (loans, credit cards, mortgages, etc.). It did not create a new right to open deposit accounts like checking or savings, which are not credit transactions. Banks had never been under a federal ban preventing women from depositing their own money.

Unmarried women (as feme sole) generally retained legal capacity to own property, contract, and manage finances. Married women’s rights expanded through 19th-century Married Women’s Property Acts (starting in the late 1830s–1840s in various states and largely complete by around 1900), which allowed them to control their own earnings and property rather than everything automatically belonging to the husband under coverture.

Women appeared as depositors in thrift institutions as early as the 1840s; an 1893 survey found more than 25% of thrift members were women with the same rights as men. Some banks even marketed specifically to women (e.g., special teller windows).

Women founded or led banks well before 1974 (examples include Louise M. Weiser in the 1870s, Deborah Powers in the 1870s–1890s, and Maggie L. Walker’s St. Luke Penny Savings Bank in 1903, which offered checking and savings accounts).

By the 1960s, independent deposit accounts for women (married or single) had become more routine as social norms shifted.

And the head-ass response seemed to be, “attention,” because that’s the kind of thing we can expect from British media at this point.

It’s not like the entire world just went through a mass disabling event or anything. It’s not like more and more women are finally getting diagnosed with chronic, lifelong illnesses and dynamic disabilities due to advocacy and raised awareness by the people who were left to suffer before them for decades.

So, there's a white supremacist conspiracy theory, (yeah, I know, I promise this will make sense.) that claims white people are descended from biblical nephilim. The story goes, nephilim were giant demigods with magic powers. The conspiracy theorists think white people are special because of literal magic bloodlines that have slowly gotten diluted over the generations. This is why they're so scared of race mixing. They think it will dilute their magic powers. (They seriously think they have magic powers.)

And there's a type of ancient roman misogyny that claims men have to constantly compete be the manliest and most powerful person in the room, and if a guy can't keep up, he's no better than a woman. (You may notice this looks pretty similar to modern day misogyny.) According to this idea, If a guy *is* the manliest person in the room, he can dominate another man the same as dominating a woman. (This is also how you get extremely transphobic people who are into forcefem. They think emasculating another man by making him act like a woman proves their masculinity.)

So, some racist misogynists glued these two ideas together: they think white dudes have to keep being powerful to prove how white they are. Basically, if they can abuse their power, it proves they have magic nephilim blood, which proves they deserve to abuse their power. The same logic applies whether they're abusing women or people of color. The logic goes that if a man acts weak and effeminate, that proves his magic blood is too diluted, so he's not really white anymore. (This is also why there's so much interracial cuck porn where the white guy gets forcefemmed. In this logic, failure to maintain his bloodline by keeping his wife under his control is proof that he is unmanly.)

So if you're following along with this nonsense, these ancient nephilims supposedly being the whitest people ever is understood to mean they're also the manliest men ever.

If a guy who believes all this shit realizes he's gay and actually does want to be fucked in the ass, he has a problem: Getting fucked in the ass would prove he is less masculine. His whole identity is built on being the whitest, manliest guy in the room. This would call into question his whiteness. And that would tip over his whole belief system.
