introducing the loplambs đđ part sheep, part rabbit, part wonderful
ok so for those of you who donât know, thereâs this twitter account of a japanese hero mascot named dentman who went viral recently due to this tweet
but yeah he saw the tweet. and his response went viral as well (which is how i found his account)
and he just has like. hourly posts reminding you to brush your teeth
oh and his rival? his name is mr. mutans. whenever dentman posts he makes a post of his own, ofc
but THATâS NOT ALL. literally while making this post i found a THIRD ACCOUNT thatâs all about taking your meds
safe to say iâm losing my mind
anyway the point of all this was that people are ALREADY beginning to draw them ship art đ
and the reactions are everything
I CANT ADD ANY MORE IMAGES BUT TRUST ME THIS IS SO FUNNY one of the replies said âso candy guy is into it but
toxic one-sided dentman yaoi wasnât on my 2024 bingo card but it DEFINITELY IS NOW!
UPDATE: dentman has a bunch of old youtube videos with a whole vtuber avatar iâm in tears
i love u dentman
I love you Dentman
Some D&D party is out there playing the coolest campaign ever.
I saw this when it was posted! Some highlights from the comments:
people on this website be like âitâs actually schoolâs fault that i donât know how to read because i wanted to write my essay on the divergent trilogy and that BITCH mrs. clarkson made us study 1984 instead. anyway hereâs a 10 tweet thread of easily disproven misinformation about a 3 year old news story and btw, who is toni morrison?â
i KNOW most of yâall are lying about being in the gifted program as children because none of you could pass the basic reading comprehension assessment they give third graders today
this post is mean and I never read divergent or whatever the fuck but 1984 sucks and is rape apologism so if somebody wanted to write about divergent or whatever good for them
this reply is like literally exactly what op is talking about lol. like firstly ops point isnât â1984 is goodâ, ops point is that analysing complex stories teaches you how to form opinions and think for yourself. and like secondly in 1984 youâre supposed to think damn itâs fucked up that heâs thinking that way about her, i wonder if this ties in with the central theme of âa society like this will fuck you in the headâ? (this is the thinking for yourself part). like do you think orwell just put that in for fun? do you think that just because winston is the protagonist youâre supposed to agree with everything he does?
You know I feel like this post just gave me an epiphany for what is wrong with how Tumblr Fandom/Internet Fandom responds to media-or not *wrong* but makes it very hard to respond to anything but a morally correct, and heroic protagonist.Â
When an English teacher, or reader, taught or picked up 1984, it wasnât with the intention they were going to love the protagonist. They picked it up with the intention of reading a whole story and trying to grasp the theme or catharsis from the story. If the protagonist was a *shitty* person it played into the the themes or the story, because it wasnât about morally judging the book or *liking* or feeling attachment to the protagonist. Sometimes and often times, books were just about gaining another perspective.Â
No one read Lolita expecting to endear, or like, or be inspired by Humbert. You are supposed to be upset by his behavior, you donât read Lolita with the intention of being inspired. You read it to learn more about what the fuck is going on inside someoneâs head when they behave like that. How children get sucked into abusive situations. Or read âThe Great Gatsbyâ not because they want to fall in love with Gatsby or Nick, but to better understand and analyze the experience of the 1920s or destitution of the American Dream.Â
A lot of internet and fandom culture has changed that though. When we say something like âI love the Great Gatsbyâ it comes with the idea or association that means you must *love* or relate to one of the characters. And maybe you do, but the first assumption is not longer about the quality of the work or themes, or cathartic impact-itâs about character admiration. And with that character admiration, in tumblr stan culture, or kin culture, or exalting characters with fanart/romance/so on you donât just âadmireâ or find that character âcompellingâ it now translates to âyou LOVE that characterâ or you âDIRECTLY relate to that character.âÂ
You canât say âI love how Humbert is written, itâs so fascinating and darkâ, without it directly translating you somehow relate to a child abuser or condone his actions. Taking in media has become an act of worship and connection. We no longer watch meant to just see the story as a whole, we watch expecting to connect to a character and if we offer them our âworshipâ as itâs become, as opposed to just attention or interest study as it traditionally was, it means we are condoning the character or saying we directly empathize with all their actions.Â
I think thatâs why there is often now so much fuss over *toxic* characters or not. Or whether that classical novel is showing good or bad things anymore. Weâre treating the characters as people we should love or want to draw or write about. Sometimes a story is just about getting the the theme or catharsis or learning another perspective. We donât NEED to like the character. Or we donât HAVE to like a character to be impressed by how theyâre written or intrigued by their behavior.Â
I think if internet culture could learn to view stories as small insights into other lives or single takes of one perspective instead of purposeful moral inspirations weâd be a lot less worried about how toxic or not toxic they are.Â
this post was written in 2021 and has never been more relevant

when two musicians sing into the same microphone and lean in very close to each other⌠like omg are you guys gonna kiss now to relieve the homoerotic tension?đł
THIS IS NOT ABOUT ONE DIRECTION I DONâT KNOW WHO THIS âHARRYâ PERSON IS GO WATCH BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN AND CLARENCE CLEMONS KISS ON STAGE RIGHT NOW
op is the only valid person iâve ever met. everyone else needs to come to the light
Okay, but this is really important: Bruce Springsteen occupied this really weird place in music history. His songs were all from this pessimistic, nihilistic view of an America that had let him down:
Just like the anti-Vietnam War protest songs that we associate with the 1960s, or the early nihilism that spawned punk music in the 1970s. But he didnât *sound* like a punk anarchist; he sounded like a country rock singer. When he released Born in the U.S.A. people completely misinterpreted (or possibly ignored) the lyrics in favor of the tone of the music.
Politicians used his music to promote their âMurica Yes! brand, and he had to literally explain that that was not what he was about. Heâs over here asking when weâre going to have jobs and heathcare, not stanning the politicians who werenât helping the people.
It was also kind of a big deal that he had an integrated band, because even as late as the 1980s music was still kind of segregated and MTV was straight up racist. They refused to play and promote black artists and then claimed that were no black artists in the first place. Michael Jacksonâs record company had to threaten a boycott of their white artists to get MTV to play his Thriller video.
Plus, the first black/white interracial kiss on TV was in 1968 (OG Star Trek). Also it took us until the 70s to get sympathetic gay characters on screen, and the 90s to get gay characters to kiss onscreen. And all of those firsts were met with outrage.
So keep that in mind when you see Bruce Springsteen not just playing with an interracial band, but engaging in an interracial, gay kiss on stage repeatedly.
Passages from American Popular Music by Larry Starr and Christopher Waterman
I used to think that Bruce and Clarence kissing onstage was exuberance, showmanship, and telling racist homophobes to fuck off. Like, they picked up a certain kind of audience and went âRacist homophobes? Not in our house!â And started the kissing then but then I actually looked it up and
https://www.gq.com/story/this-fucked-me-up-bruce-springsteen-singing-about-clarence-clemons
It was a story where⌠we remade the city. We remade the city, shaping it into the kind of place where our friendship and our love for one another wouldnât have been such an exceptional thing. - Bruce Springsteen
It wasnât about showmanship or rejecting bigots or anything it was just. Damn right that was one of the loves of his life and damn right he was going to kiss him onstage
It gets me a little that Bruce has had a divorce, that heâs been married twice, but he loved Clarence for the rest of Clarenceâs life and will presumably love him the rest of his own
Clemons said in one interview. âBruce and I looked at each other and didnât say anything, we just knew. We knew we were the missing links in each otherâs lives. He was what Iâd been searching for.â In another version of the story, Clemons says âHe looked at me, and I looked at him, and we fell in love.â
Iâm having some emotions about it!
âHe was elemental in my life,â Springsteen adds, âand losing him was like losing the rain.â
Not just! I love you pure and deep and true but! I am going to love you like that in front of the whole damn world!
We have fewer narratives about taking risks and making statements for platonic love rather than romantic and supposedly it would be easier to downplay this onstage than romance and! They refused! They fucking refused! In front of hundreds of thousands of people, over the course of years! In the spotlight, in word and deed, I love you!
God Iâm not okay about it
Now Iâm mad that this is not among any of the things I was ever told about this artist.
I knew about this in general (& via all those fabulous photos), but this just adds even more beautiful context <3
Just to add to the pile: this was the cover of Springsteenâs break-through album Born to Run, in 1975:
I mean, will you LOOK at this:
This was the pic chosen for the album cover from an extensive photoshoot, too. A few others:
Thereâs a lot more online if you search. Theyâre all pretty amazing. But the photographer is right, the one chosen for the album cover just pops.
okay I'm hacking on the House MD DS game. it's nice of them to include a cast option in the credits, in case you bought the game without knowing the show.
That was easy. Good news: text is very, very injectable.
So, here's a bit of info about how the DS works: It has two GPUs, one for each screen. Each screen can show 4 separate background layers, and one sprite (object) layer. So that's a total of 10 layers, across two screens.
But you can also copy from one to the other, at the expense of lower framerate. So some games that do stuff like render 3D on both screens do it by having the main GPU (which has the 3D graphics functionality) render both screens, which means the framerate has two be half, as you're doing twice the renders.
So here's House MD DS, with all layers enabled:
And here it is with the 1st background layer of the main GPU turned off:
Yeah. For some reason this game DOES NOT AT ALL use the layer system of the DS, and renders ABSOLUTELY EVERYTHING into the background layer 1 of the main GPU, then copies that onto the second screen. What the hell? Was this made by some company that had never touched a DS before?
I thought it just might be the dialog screens, and the other gameplay sections use layers and sprites and such...
NOPE! works exactly the same.
all the images are just PNGs. They implemented a PNG loader on the DS and just load them at runtime.
This is a prank, right? this game isn't real, one of ya'll just made it up to troll me?
THERE'S A PANTIES SORTING MINIGAME?
I don't even need to extract all the portraits: they're just in a folder called "layouts\ui\avatars"
well I still need to extract the font, I guess..
MOTHERFUCKER!
(also: all the sound effects are just WAV files)
this image is labeled "bottom.png".
the game has all the screens defined as XML files for "layouts".
each one has a group of polygons defined in it, and the <layout> element has an attribute called "num_ploys".
THIRTEEN YEAR OLD TYPO DISCOVERED
yep, there's a panties sorting minigame. watta hell
WAIT
The font is shaped the same, but it's 1-bit, not the several-bits that the game's font is! SO IT'S WRONG! so I actually still have to do some work!
motherfucker. it IS the right font, they just set all the colors to the same. It's palettefucked. Easily fixable.
I decided to skip the font image so I could just use my existing methods (aka AVFE*) which'd give me widths as well, and then I finished that.
but then I realized something:
these two shades do not match. This font is SEMI-TRANSPARENT. oh no...
* Automated Visual Font Extraction, my patented** method for extracting fonts from games
** not really
Look at this background. Look at how it's got, like, smooth gradients and shit.
Now let's compare to the actual game:
It looks like shit.
You can especially see on the ground between the medical thingy and the bed. It's because the DS has a limited number of colors and is converting this file at runtime. That's right, the first image is the actual texture that the game is loading... it then has to down-convert it to be able to display it at all.
This means that the death generator is going to accidentally LOOK BETTER THAN THE GAME ITSELF
annoyingly they didn't define the shadow-color with a distinct color. They just used a specific palette index. So I can modify it to make it useful... but then I have to somehow do dynamic palette manipulation on 142 PNG files which have different palettes.
That's not going to be fun. Palette support is a fucking mess in most image editing programs/image manipulation libraries.
So I hacked some new backgrounds in and overwrote some images, and it turns out that they've done all of this in a very weird way:
There are 32 colors per avatar, except the avatar actually has 256 colors. When loaded, they're converted so that some of them have alpha transparency.
Why they did this, rather than just using PNG's built in transparency? I don't know.
Left is how the sprite renders on a white background, right is what it looks like in the sprite file.
OKAY I wrote some code to fix the transparency. Here's all the avatars
BTW check out @plorpl's two posts that got me looking at this game:
Today I offer Tumblr real, undoctored screenshots from the House MD DS game, free of context: Special awards go to: "Would you still lov
More info (and insane screenshots) from the House MD DS game for those who want to know. Way, way too much info under the break!! The game
okay the death generator is done!
The Death Generator
For the record, this is not just shitty for anyone who needs wheels to get around.
This would be HELL for my cane.
I don't use forearm crutches, but I suspect it would also be hell for that type of mobility device.
Same for walkers.
Same for anyone with limited vision.
Almost every single instance of hostile architecture meant to gentrify a place or keep out "undesirables" ends up hurting disabled folks too.
And that's intentional. Because disabled folks absolutely fall under the "needs extra time/care", unless the companies can get away with it
Wtf is the problem with skateboards to begin with
Skateboards let people have fun outside without spending money (except occasionally on upgrading the board). Oh, and some people just hate teens congregating for any reason.
Adults complain that "kids never go outside nowadays", meanwhile the reason is because adults would harass them whenever they do.
Hey so this post is actually extremely inaccurate.
Thanks to a follower of mine pointing it out it was discovered/shown that those latticeworks are actually for water retention placed in key parts of the park, Scissortail Park in Oklahoma City. They are not meant as walkways and as can be shown in the above picture there are clearly accessible pathways which are the actual paths.
While hostile architecture is always very much a thing to be on the lookout for, sadly sometimes we just gotta remember the ancient texts:
Reblogging because I'm fairly certain I blogged this previously and the new info ABSOLUTELY needs to be shared! We really need MORE architecture like this in concrete jungles to help allow water to return to the ground instead of into the sewer system.
The utter relief when you see something inaccurate and youâre scrolling going noâŚno! And then just when youâre about to have to resign yourself to writing a response or pretending you never saw this you see itâs already been handled.
oh man i never told you. recently we went to the albertina art gallery and in the contemporary wing we saw this painting, ânacht der skorpioneâ
and we were fucking blown away by it, like audible gasping from everyone, itâs almost as tall as the room and incredibly expressive and impressive
and after having walked around looking at the work of 99% male artists and their endless studies dedicated to The Female Form for so goddamn long my very first thought upon seeing it was âthis was painted by a womanâ, so i walk closer and sure enough, i was right, her name is xenia hausner.
and then i look at it for a moment longer and my chest swells because these are intense characters with internal lives and that is what makes them attractive and my second thought is âthis was not painted by a straight womanâ
and i mean i canât say anything for sure but i looked her up and
and nobody else picked up on this in the original painting? when i told them they were like âwhat, why, because of the masculine (???) brush strokesâ? they were not shaken to their very core by the authenticity of it? what iâm trying to say is gaydar is extremely real and straight people extremely do not have it.
i found another one and iâm about to spend the rest of my evening staring at this painting
this is her btw
Happy Petrov Day, everyone. To celebrate, try to follow his example and not end the world.
Stanislav Yevgrafovich Petrov was a lieutenant colonel of the Soviet Air Defence Forces who became known as âthe man who single-handedly saved the world from nuclear warâ for his role in the 1983 Soviet nuclear false alarm incident. The incident was unknown to the public until it was revealed shortly before the dissolution of the Soviet Union in 1991.
On 26 September 1983, during the Cold War, the satellite-based early-warning system of the Soviet Union reported the launch of multiple intercontinental ballistic missiles from the United States. At the time, tensions with the U.S. were on edge, and high officials of the Soviet Union, including General Secretary Yuri Andropov, were thought to be highly suspicious of a U.S. attack.
Petrov checked ground-based radars which had not detected a launch, noted that the warning system had detected only 1-5 missiles instead of the hundreds that would have been expected in the event of a first strike, and chose to mark the system alert as a false alarm. This decision is seen as having prevented a retaliatory nuclear attack, which would have probably resulted in immediate escalation of the Cold War stalemate to a full-scale nuclear war and the deaths of hundreds of millions of people. Investigation of the satellite warning system later confirmed that the system had indeed malfunctioned.
While it is highly probable that if Petrov had reported this incident to his superiors they would have come to the same conclusion, it was a point in time when many people feared that the Cold War might become hot. Andropov, the new Soviet leader, was considered weak by the US president Ronald Reagan, and the Western countries were deploying new missile installation in Europe to counter existing missiles in the Eastern Bloc. This fear of nuclear war meant that at this time the peace movement in most western countries reached one of its highest levels.

â If the meds were switched, then when I got them mixed up, I⌠I accidentally switched them back, so⌠I gave Harlan⌠â The correct doses, yes. But not accidentally.
KNIVES OUT (2019) dir. Rian Johnson
I love this moment, not just because of the twist, but also because Marta has been dying the whole movie with not only fear and grief, but guilt at having caused the death of her patient, her friend.
For Benoit to take the time to reassure that this was not her fault, in way that is so kind and so clear, was lovely.
âYou are a good nurse.â You can tell when he says that the he truly understands what is paining her the most. Just beautiful.
I have so much love for this film, and for the moment following this where Benoit tells her that, if Harlan had listened to her, he would still be alive. The blame is taken from her, in the kindest possible way, by someone she trusts. After all the goalpost moving and âah, gotcha!â and obsession with spoilers in cinema over the last decade, with characterisation abandoned and plotlines left unresolved, knives out is a kind film. It isnât obsessed with tricking you or catching you out, just wants you along for the ride
I love Benoit Blanc in this scene so much. I mean, heâs a great character throughout the film, but this was the moment I thought, âI will watch as many movies about this character as Rian Johnson and Daniel Craig choose to make.âÂ
I am so sick of the trend of making intelligent male characters callous. And despite his veneer of slow Southern affability, Benoit Blanc is almost diabolically clever. So throughout the movie, I assumed he was toying with Marta, enjoying her discomfort because he found her suspicious. I thought he was another brilliant, heartless detective in the BBC Sherlock vein. But look at him in this scene. He practically has tears in his eyes because heâs so moved by Martaâs goodness, and I love him. I love this movie. I canât wait for the sequels.
#he loves Marta! #like YES FINE he knew from the beginning she was involved lol but also #he knew from the beginning she didnât kill anybody #heâs like YOUâRE THE ONLY BITCH HERE I RESPECT
And after seeing âGlass Onion,â YOUâRE THE ONLY BITCH HERE I RESPECT is his mantra and thatâs why heâs the BEST.
What is this genre of games called because i know for a fact that so many people share the same liking / interests towards at least 2 of them
And they all go SO fucking hard, like story wise and visually I need to find more of these kind of games
The decision has been made, this genre of fucked up games for mentally ill people is called eurofuck
And to those of you asking -- I'm adding all the other suggestions here! Sorry about that, I just picked the most popular ones currently haha!
The criteria for a game to be considered an eurofuck is pretty loose overall:
either set or made in Europe
worldbuilding or general misfuckery / misery that matches the energy of a miserable [ eastern / northern ] european living in the deglamorised version of Europe.
Not afraid to make their games unapproachable or offputting, and also visually unique
Usually low-end device friendly [ my janky computer can play all of them and that says something! ]
Explores themes around beliefs and religion, and tackles ideologies without being overly onesided -- as in not only showing the both sides of one particular thing
Tackles the importance of the past / history & its impacts throughout these games
Sooo it caters to people who were victims of catholism and conservativism, and as expected many queer people enjoy these, they're like comfort games.
Here's the list mentioned by you guys, thanks for all the suggestions:
Where's Lila
Inscryption
Frostpunk
Stalker [ or S.T.A.L.K.E.R ? ]
Planescape: Torment
Return of the Obra Dinn
Darkwood âźď¸ very recommended
Cat Lady
This War of Mine
Rule of Rose
Darkest Dungeon
the current thing trad losers are losing their minds over is one singular dude on reddit that refurbished and hand painted a grandfather clock and they keep saying the guy âruined its valueâ or âthrew thousands out the window by vandalizing a precious heirloomâ and let me just say as someone densely familiar with the world of antiques, thereâs a 99% chance that this clock was a mass produced reproduction and thereâs a 100% chance that clock is not as valuable as ppl think it is. when people hear the word âgrandfather clockâ theyâre always gonna assume youâre talking about something that was handmade in a woodshop by a jolly old man when rlly repros take up a waaay bigger slice of the market far more than any handcrafted items. and besides people will repaint or redecorate these âoh so sacred handcrafted itemsâ every day thereâs a huge market for them. itâs the same reason why people like long furbies or dolls that have been customized to have like gore mouths or something. this is literally like watching a bunch of pretentious farts make a mountain out of a molehill. also the clock is kinda cool if Iâm being honest
this is whatâs got them so mad. like the dude didnât destroy it or anything, just made it more interesting to look at. when I see this I donât go âthis man is a danger to society because he RUINED a precious antiqueâ i just think to myself âhuh thatâs actually some very impressive work with patterns, getting all those intricate geometric shapes done with just paint mustâve been hard work and it looks cool and the colors really popâ but idk maybe thatâs just because Iâm not completely deranged
more clock pictures from the original post:
and the plain wood surface before painting:
Anon posts the rare good question on 4Chan.
I saw in the comments that 'no one enforces' the loitering thing, so please know that over 10,000 Americans are accosted by police every year for "loitering", and many of these situations end in injury or death. The crime of "loitering" itself has incredibly racist roots, and today still serve as a blanket excuse to harass marginalized (usually poor and/or Black) communities. (TW in this post for text mentions of anti-Black violence, visuals of arrests)
For example, these two men were arrested while waiting to meet with a real estate broker. A white witness at the Starbucks said staff had no issue with her sitting there for an hour under the exact same conditions, but as soon as PoC came in the staff treated them completely differently:
Sadly, accusations of "loitering" have led to deaths. Amadou Diallo was shot at 41 times while unarmed. His neighbor had called the police on him for "loitering" in his own neighborhood:
Source: https://www.nytimes.com/1999/02/05/nyregion/officers-in-bronx-fire-41-shots-and-an-unarmed-man-is-killed.html
"Loitering" isn't no big deal, and if you think no one enforces it that only means it has never been weaponized against you. For other people it has been a literal death sentence.
new genre concept: soft apocalypse
the world as we know it has ended and mother nature starts taking back whatâs hers. there are no zombies or cannibals or murderous bandits. the most valued members of the community are those who know how to garden and farm, sew and weave, treat wounds, work wood or build with bricks, cook from scratch.Â
people bond together to begin rebuilding instead of killing each other. everyone teaches each other whatever they do know and works together to figure out the stuff none of them know. books become incredibly valued resources because theyâre often the only way to learn critical information. if someone is elderly, disabled, or otherwise unable to work at the same level as most of the community, theyâre taken care of by the others, not told any sort of âsurvival of the fittestâ bs.
as the generations ware on, communities begin expanding into small cities. some of the settlements even find ways to repurpose solar or wind power on a small scale and have electricity in some of their buildings. storytellers wander the countryside telling tales of the old world in return for some hot stew or a place to rest for the night, and the mythos of the new world start to incorporate elements of the past. the only thing that remains constant is that humans survive, and they do it by working together.
MAY I INTRODUCE YOU TO YOKOHAMA KAIDASHI KIKOU
