i have no object permanence about myself. if i’m not in anyones eye sight i assume i have ceased to be. finding out people remember i exist, think about me, and even talk about me when i’m not actively in front of them is startling news every time it is brought to my attention

For context this was in response to someone saying their cybertruck was heavy duty

ever since reading addiction by design and vicious games i'm insane about the machine gambling industry. one of the most evil soul-crushing parts of this world

there's a passage in vicious games where cassidy interviews betting shop owners and literally every single one of them tells her that once they started introducing betting machines (slot machines, video poker, etc.) customers getting violent went from being a rare possibility to being a regular occurence that had to be considered 'part of the business'

and the pathologization / disease model of gambling addiction is so fucking evil too. these industries are spending millions of dollars to create open air spike traps and invite people to take long walks on the slippery path around the spike traps and when people fall in and get impaled by spikes they say "it's very sad that these people had personalities that were so prone to getting spiked and are now suffering from spikes-impaling-them-disease. we have utmost sympathy and encourage everyone to walk responsibly around our giant open-air spike pits"

I have witnessed so much slaughter and death here

My grandma murdered her first husband the first time he beat their daughter.

My college was next to an assisted living facility and one time we went over there to draw people’s portraits so we could get practice drawing older people. The lady I was drawing idly told me that she "dealt quite handily with her first husband” while making a stabbing gesture. Five minutes later she requested I make sure not to draw her double chin. I honored that request.

So when I was a child my grandmother told all these great stories about growing up in the Alaskan wilderness. Amazing bad ass stories about her and my great-grandmother. I recently asked my mom why my great-grandmother moved from Texas to Alaska in the first place. Turns out my Great-grandfather was abusive to my great grandmother for years and she lived with that until the first time he hit my grandmother, who was like three at the time, my great-grandmother got him very drunk and beat him to death then moved to Alaska to hide from the cops.
