Howdy peeps. So just as my creativity was getting back up and running I was called back into work! I canât complain, good to be working again, but man itâs hard to get writing after an 11 hour day. Anywho, Mother of the Year has hit me right in the feels again (whilst I wait for O*H to come back) so have some fluffy drabble. Ironically, when I started playing MOTY I saw lawyer man and thought ew, Iâll romance you but just to get back at the PTA bitch. Then it turns out heâs a God Tier LI. Who knew ¯\_(ă)_/ÂŻ Anyway, hope yâall are keeping safe out there.

It was a warm day, and the cool breeze took the edge off of the bright, warming sunlight that seemed to have everyone in a good mood. For Tara, though, the cool breeze did nothing to calm her. Her cheeks, eyes, neck; they were all burning up, and her fists were balled at her side. Tears streamed down her face, and she took shuddering breaths; just trying to make sense of it all. To say it was difficult was an understatement. Everything she had been through, all of the hurt and pain and uncertainty to get to this pointâŚShe was trying so hard to stay strong for Zoey but right now all she wanted to do was curl into a ball and weep.
âHey, superwomanâ.
Tara looked left, a gentle hand closing around her shoulder, and she smiled. Instantly her heart started to calm, and she let out a breath she didnât know she had been holding. âHey yourselfâ.
Thomas smiled, so genuinely, and Tara felt fresh tears welling in her eyes again. She saw Zoey playing with Luz in the distance, a mere five minutes from the courthouse theyâd been stuck in all morning. âIâŚI canât believe itâs overâ she whispered, focusing on him again. She turned her body as his other arm slipped over her other shoulder, grounding her.
Thomas smiled again and gently rubbed her shoulders with his thumbs. âI canâ he said firmly. âIâve seen a lot of family disputes, Tara, but from the moment I met you I knew that Zoey had the kindest, most loving mother I had ever known. So whenâŚâ he trailed off, and Tara could see him trying to think of the least offensive term, causing her to smile. âWhen, umâŚGuyâ he settled on. âWell, when he tried to screw everything up, I just knew it would end like thisâ.
Tara closed her eyes, nodding, her hands unclenching. âYour faith in me is appreciated, butâŚI canât help but wonder if this is the right thing? Iâm not wealthy, I donât have a job IâŚâ
âHeyâ.
Thomasâ voice was so stern it made Tara open her eyes and look at him, but his eyes were nothing but soft. âYou can give her love, Tara, which is worth more than anything else in this world. When Luzâs motherâŚWhen she passed, I was so lost. I didnât know if I would be good enough, how to protect Luz, or raise her right. I had never been the hands-on parent butâŚThen I realised that I can only do my best, and everything else will fall into place. I love Luz, and thatâs enoughâ.
Tara nodded. âI knowâŚYouâre rightâ. She took a deep breath, and then smiled, realising something she shouldâve much sooner. âI would never have gotten here if it wasnât for youâ. She reached up, her hand closing around Thomasâ cheek. âYou called me superwoman but really youâre my superman. You literally gave me my daughter back, Thomas, IâŚI donât know how I can ever repay youâ.
The lawyer smiled and closed his hand around Taraâs. âI donât want any thanks. I donât need itâŚI care about you, Tara, IâŚFeel things for you that I havenât sinceâŚWell, for a long timeâ.
Her cheeks felt hot, for a different reason now, and she stepped towards Thomas. âWould it be alright if I said I felt things for you, too? If I felt that thisâŚright hereâŚâ she dropped her hands and entwined their fingers. âThat this, you and meâŚâ her eyes trailed over to the two girls, still playing on the green. âThem, together, it just feels right, Thomas.â
She watched him, carefully, and saw nothing but happiness watching her back. âThat would be more than okay, Taraâ. He leaned down, pressing their foreheads together. âDo you want to come over later? We can talkâŚAbout where we go from hereâ.
She nodded and reached up on her tiptoes, laced her arms around Thomasâ neck. âIâd like thatâ she whispered. âIâd really, really, like thatâ.
âMom! Hey, Mom!â.
Tara moved away from Thomas but kept his hand in hers, smiling at Zoey as she bounded over, Luz close behind; making sure to wipe away any tears before she was in sight.
âLuz says thereâs an icecream place around the corner, and they do the biggest sundaes! And you buy one and-â.
âAnd itâs bigger than me!â Luz chimed in, bouncing next to Zoey. âIt has bananas and marshmallows and cherries, and chocolate chips!â.
âCan we go?â Zoey begged, âplease!â.
âYeah, can we can we?â Luz joined in, eyes pleading.
Zoey smiled as Thomas squeezed her hand tighter. âWhat do you think, Dad?â she said gently, glancing over at him. âThink we can go get icecream?â.
Thomasâ eyes were a little wide with shock, for a moment, before his expression melted into that of endearment. âI think we can, Momâ he replied.
Taras heart filled with warmth as they stepped down from the stone steps overlooking the park and started towards the ice cream parlour, two broken families together as one, and she felt positive that, for the first time in a long time, things were only going to get better.

I am - like the majority of this fandom - aware of the issues PB have done. Iâm sure we all know what im referring to; the misrepresentation of POC, not enough female LIâs and the bad distribution of screen time for LIâs in certain books. I think it is wrong that PB didnât act upon playerâs voices earlier, and how they seemed to brush peopleâs opinions away. That is not okay.
Although, I was personally very pleased with the statement that Oliver came out with. I think he did a good job apologizing and acknowledging his and the companyâs mistakes. And I loved how he incorporated the ways to fix them, and telling us there will be a change.
Here is the problem;
I love being a part of fandoms, because you can share your personal opinions, feelings etc. and share your obsession for characters/celebrities/books/movies/etc. Something being a part of the choices fandom have taught me, is to look critically on plots, character development and storylines - which I am very grateful for. I love when I see people have an opinion that is contrary to my own. I learn, see things from their perspective and understand that your own identity and experience can make you look at things differently from other people. I will always be grateful when people educate me, other people and companies on their ignorance or misinterpretation. Therefore - I am part proud and happy that so many people took a stand with the Ethan/Rafael/OH2 LI, because it actually led to PB changing the storyline up for the better. I supported the constructive criticism, because I agreed with how unfair the LIâs were treated. Especially since OH is a book with such diverse characters, it is icky that Ethan was being focused so much on, as he is almost the only white character, and the only white LI. I agreed that PB could and should be doing better.
Now. Like I said, âI was part proud and happyâ and that is a reflection solely on the people that voiced their opinions and called PB out on the racial/injustice/unfair treatment issues. It is feelings I felt towards people trying to make PB a better company, and teaching them whilst demanding better. What I also was, was part frustrated and annoyed. This is towards all the people that was bullying not only a company, but actual writers - people, that have real emotions. And before you twist my words - no, Iâm not babyâing a company and grown adults. No, Iâm not saying that racist behavior should ever be tolerated. Iâm saying that those people who would leave criticism, hate and pure negativity for the writers - they made me feel frustrated and annoyed.
It is now to a point were we are judging every book, every character, every sneak peek and every move that PB does. Like I mentioned before, I love the discussions and different opinions. What I donât love is how everything now is pure negativity. And the intentions are to make PB feel bad. The choices fandom is no longer a place where we can reflect and analyze, it is a place where everything is picked apart and people will get shamed for the stupidest reasons. I hate that some of the outrageous acts has been contacting writers and harassing them. That. Is. Wrong. I canât comprehend that some of yâall actually think that is okay??? Not only is it of course extremely wrong, you are also removing the importance of valid complaints and issues - by acting childish and dumb, and only caring about spreading negativity.
I donât really have a conclusion since I donât know what to conclude. I just hope you understand the difference between wanting change for actual valid issues, and wanting to spread negativity and hate, only to piss people off and make the writers feel bad. Thatâs all. Thank you for reading.
It's become a cesspool of toxic negativity where it seems people are thriving on causing divisions in the fandom and shaming them for choosing a white MC, dating a white LI, liking a forbidden romance trope, shaming them for every thing they do.
It's so overwhelmingly miserable and not the fandom I remember joining.

This is pure, unabashed, indulgent smut, people. Re-write of The Nanny Affair Chapter Four. There is dialect and writing taken directly from the Choices app, which they own the content and characters of. MC is Anna. Enjoy! Written in the Second Person (like the app). First time Iâve written in that style.
Choices Stories You Play: The Nanny Affair
Pairing: F!MC (Anna) x M!Sam
Reading Time: ~ 5 minutes
Warning: Mature content. Buckets of it. If youâre not old enough, behave and donât read.
âGoodnight, everyoneâ. Fuming, not looking back, you return to your room and sit heavily on your bed, still unsure of what happened. Youâre holding the massage bar you bought for Sam, having not put it down after trying to tidy a little, just before Sofia arrived. Huffing, you pull out your phone to text the one friend you know whoâll understand.
OMG Sofia is here â Â AnnaÂ
WAT!!! â Jenny
She dropped in unannounced during Samâs bday dinner. Sheâs freaking terrible! You shouldâve seen the way she was treating everyone. She LITERALLY called me the help â Anna
Gross. Wat did Sam say â Jenny
Nothing. â Anna
EXCUUUUUUUUSE ME?! â Jenny
He tried. But Sofia kept talking over him. Honestly, I think Sam was too shocked to do more â Anna
I hope so. Cuz otherwise. WTF â Jenny
I donât know, Jen, thereâs no way I can compete with that. She bought the boys Armani watches. ARMANI, JENNY, ARMANIâ Anna
Listen, babe, u gotta sho him wat heâs missing out on. Remember the bar boy in Miami? â Jenny

All Iâm sayin is dat you worked harder for that, and he wasnât a hot stuff multi-gajillionaire! Did Miami guy leave the gala with Lucy Street? Nuh uh, gurl, he left wit you â Jenny
Youâre halfway through responding when a knock on your door pries you away from the phone screen. If itâs Sofia with dry cleaning or something I swear Iâm not accountable for my actions you think to yourself, before opening the door to find that Sam is standing in your doorway, shirt unbuttoned and chest bare, looking tired and dishevelled and yet, somehow, still incredibly sexy.

âAnnaâŚâ
âSam, heyâŚIs everything okay?â. Youâre surprised to see him at your door, and you try to push the thoughts of why heâs turned up, looking like that, to see you from your mind.
âCan we talk? Sofia is gone, and the boys are down for the nightâ.
At the mention of her name you feel anger bubbling up, and your expression hardens. âI was about to go to bed, actuallyâ.
âIt wonât take long. I need to apologize for what happenedâ.
Sam touches his neck tenderly and releases a heavy sigh. Your hands itch to help him relieve some of that tension, to stroke him, to touch himâŚHis gaze meets yours, pleading with you.
âPlease. I donât like how we left things back thereâ.
Your resolve wavers, and your mind flicks back to the conversation you had with Jenny. To the small, delicate package folded neatly in your bathroom, an impulse buy when youâd been out with the boys earlier that youâd hoped would be an extra surprise for Sam, should the night have gone that way. It hadnât, not with the entrance of Sofia, but she was gone now. After a lingering look, you step back and give Sam space to enter the room. You close the door behind him and turn, gasping softly when you find him surprisingly close.
âIâm so sorry, Anna. I never shouldâve let Sofia talk to you that way. I shouldâve been more insistent that she stop immediately, instead of trying to wait for an opening â.
Sam reaches out and places his hands over your shoulders. You tense, wanting him to touch you and leave you alone all at once. âSamâŚWhy didnât you stop her right away?â. You feel a little betrayed, although the goosepimples rising where his warm hands rest on your skin do nothing to hide your other feelings about him.
âI didnât want to cause a scene in front of the boysâŚBut thatâs no excuse. Especially since Sofia ended up doing that anywayâ he replied, remorseful.
âShe made me feel like I wasnât even there, Samâ.
âI told her that was completely unacceptable as soon as I finished putting the boys to bedâ.
Despite everything, a smile tugs at the corners of your mouth. Of course she didnât put them to bed, wouldnât want to break a nail. You try not to be too smug, although the thought of her wrestling them into bed makes it hard not to smile more. âOh?â you say, trying to sound nonchalant, âAunt Sofia didnât want to do it?â.
Sam hesitates. âSheâŚstruggles with them. I decided to save us all an hour or two and take overâ.
You meet Samâs gaze, and feel yourself start to thaw a bit. His hands slip away from your shoulders, causing you to shiver as they go. Â
âSamâŚI forgive youâ. You smile softly. âYou make it hard to stay mad at youâ.
âGoodâ.
Your expressions sours. âItâs not the same as an apology from her, though. Also, why isnât Sofia here, talking to me herself? Is she too good to apologize to âthe helpââ. You make speech marks in the air, and Sam winces a little, clearly uncomfortable at you referring to yourself like that.
âI told her to go home. I justâŚâ. He sighs. âI just wanted to enjoy what was left of my birthday. Everything had been so perfectâŚuntil she got hereâ.
You notice how he looks tense, as he rubs his shoulders with a pained expression. âI just got these knots out, and theyâre already backâ.
Your mind flicks to the massage bar, to the package wrapped up in your bathroom, and you make an instant decision. In the short time youâve known him, youâve seen Sam as a thoughtful, kind person who wants to make the world a better place; and someone like Sofia was not going to be anywhere near good enough for him. Or the boys. Aside from that, he was gorgeous; and Jenny was right. You knew how to play the game, and play it you would. âMaybe I can do something about that for youâ. You move behind Sam and slip your palms over his shoulders, digging your thumbs into the tense muscles. He groans loudly, and you relish in the sound.
âOhmygodâŚThat feelsâŚBut youâve already done more than enough, Annaâ.
You smile, kneading harder. âNot as far as these knots are concernedâ. Sam moans again and you shiver at the noise, resolve hardening with every passing moment. Your lips find his ear, speaking just above a whisper. âTell me where it hurtsâ.
âA little higher. Almost â OhhhhâŚâ.
You dig your thumbs harder into his back, and you feel him melt into your touch. âYou should get on the bedâ you whisper into his ear boldly. You see Sam swallow, and he looks at you for a long moment before obeying. Your mind wanders, and you canât help but wonder what heâs thinking. You watch Sam stretch out on the bed, facing away from you, and you smile. âIâll be five minutesâ you promise, âcould you take your pants off?â. You slip into your ensuite before he could ask questions.
A little more than five minutes later and you emerge, Sam still facing away from you.
âYou knowâ he muses, hearing the ensuite door open, âI think youâre one of the only people whoâve kept me waiting and Iâm notâŚâ. His voice trails off as he turns to look at you, and he swallows hard. âAnnaâŚâ.
You blush at the way he stares at you, but you stand firm. Slowly you move over to the bed, the white silk dressing gown youâre wearing not doing anything to hide the lacy, red bra and matching thong youâd changed into, nothing else covering you. Youâd chosen the deep red to compliment your skin, and you looked killer, if you did say so yourself. Then again, by the look on Samâs face, you didnât need to tell yourself that he liked what he saw. âWould you like a massage, Mr Dalton?â you purred, licking your lower lip as you approached the edge of the bed, slipping the silken gown off painfully slowly.
âIâŚYou-â
âShhhâ you whisper, smiling softly. You reach over to the massage bar and straddle his back, a warm wave of pleasure rippling through you as your bare skin touches his, pleasantly surprised that heâd obeyed, and was now only wearing his boxers (the shirt also discarded on the floor). You rub the bar over your hands, making them slick with the sweet-smelling oil, before you splay them on his shoulders. Sam groans immediately, and you bite your lip, mapping every contour of his toned back and shoulders; admiring the tanned skin on show.
âYou feelâŚThat feelsâŚâ he mutters, shifting and squirming under your touch as you move your hands lower, daring to slip beneath the material of his boxers, toying with his hips and butt. Sam inhales sharply, and you note his toes and fingers curling. âOhhhâŚChrist, AnnaâŚWhat are you doing to meâ.
You shiver, the way his voice aches your name making a pool of excitement rise up within you. âGood things, I hopeâ you replied, bending down. Your breasts press against his back as you whisper in his ear. âSam, IâŚâ you couldnât say anything else, as his lips caught your own in a passionate kiss. All thoughts of what you were going to say drifted away and you allow yourself to be pulled down, the room spinning as he flips you over; now looking down at you with hungry eyes. The way you watch them rake over your body makes you giddy, and you shift beneath him. âNo fairâ you mutter, placing your hands flat against his chest. âI wasnât doneâ. You push back and Sam lets you, laughing a little as you settle on-top of him again, facing him this time.
âYou look incredibleâ he muttered, daring to slide his hands over your body. âIs this part of my birthday gift?â. His voice is husky with want, his hands toying with your bra.
âIt isâ you reply, sliding down his front. âNow, let me show you how else I can work my handsâ.
Sam inhales sharply and swears under his breath as you rub the front of his boxers, delighted at his obvious excitement. Slowly you pull them down, your face now next to his hips, and you gasp softly, feeling that desire building up in your core again as you looked upon him. âWhy, Mr Daltonâ you muttered, gently taking him in your hand, âyou kept this quiet, didnât you?â. You watch gleefully as he opened his mouth to respond, only for his reply to melt into a guttural groan, your hand now pumping his cock, thumb swiping over the head where a bead of pre-cum had appeared.
âDonât stopâ he pleads, âthat feels so goodâŚDonât stopâŚâ.
His voice and his words spur you on, your own anticipation building and building. You bend your head and lick the tip of his cock, a sudden gasp from Sam all the permission you need to take him into your mouth. You bob up and down, moaning around his girth, your mouth full and dripping with saliva and precum, dribbling down your chin. Unable to take it anymore, you slip a free hand underneath the lacy material of your thong, and you run gentle circles over your clit; moaning harder.
âAnna, I-I canât-!â Sam groans, his hips bucking into your mouth. You moan louder, preparing for his release, when you suddenly find yourself being flipped over. You gasp as his fingers find your soaking core, and he starts to rub, desperately, making you squirm and cry out. âSam!â you beg, melting under his ministrations. Your cries were smothered by a desperate, passionate kiss and you eagerly returned it, your tongue swiping over his as he positioned himself over you, all the while moving his fingers in just the right way to make you putty in his hands.
His eyes, dark and foggy with lust, found yours and you nod in answer to the silent question. You wrap your arms around his back, clinging onto him desperately as he slips inside you, groaning loudly as he pushes in, slowly, savouring it.
âOhhhh GodâŚ.Sam, pleaseâ you beg now, bucking your hips in time with his as he thrusts in and out of you, again and again, hitting that sweet spot oh so deep inside. Youâve never felt anything like it, stars already blinding your vision but still riding the high; building over and over. âPleaseâŚ!â.
âIâm notâŚI donâtâ he says, voice strained, shaking his head.
âItâs okay!â you promise desperately, tugging him close and being forever grateful that Jenny had talked you into getting an IUD. âYou can trust me, I swear just â Donât stop. Itâs okay, please. I need you to..! Please, Sam!â.
His resolve wavers and his lips meet yours again in a crashing embrace. âAnna-!â he cries out, finally, pressing himself into you fully as he comes undone, thrusting and groaning as he finishes deep inside of you.
Your own orgasm follows soon after, and you shiver uncontrollably, writhing beneath him as your nails dig into his back, shaking as you desperately cling to eachother, each one of you moving and grinding in sheer bliss
You slowly come down from your high, although you stayed connected for a while, laying together and enjoying the comforting silence and comedown.
âIâm glad these walls are insulated for noise controlâ Sam mutters, absently mindedly playing with a strand of your hair. âI wouldnât want you to stay quiet if thatâs whatâs in storeâŚYour voice is so damn sexyâ.
You laugh and slap his chest, before running your hands over the skin. âI take it this means your not mad orâŚGunna chuck me out?â.
Sam sits back, stared deeply into your eyes. âI would neverâ he whispers gently, stroking your cheek. âBut what this means IâŚI donât knowâ.
You nod, understanding, and rest your head against him. âCan we just enjoy this?â you ask softly, as you feel his grip tighten around you.
âI would like nothing moreâ he replied.
You feel a gentle kiss on your head and you sigh, content, slowly drifting off to sleep in his arms.
Part four (and a bit). This is kind of a filler part. Iâve had a few requests from people asking me to carry this on, and I donât currently have a job to go to, so why the heck not. Itâs short and sweet, Bryce x MC centric. FYI mentions of polyamory so if you donât like that donât read it. Simple. Thanks again for the comments, some awesome messages which makes my day to read. Enjoy reading, likes, comments etc etc always appreciated.

The light filtered through his bedroom blinds, harsh and unwelcoming as it pulled the young doctor from his slumber. Blinking the sleep and blur from his eyes, Casey enjoyed the brief 30 second moment where he didnât remember why he was laying on top of the duvet on his bed, fully clothed save for his shoes which were tossed on the floor. But, all too soon the previous nights events hit him like a tonne of bricks. âOh GodâŚâ he groaned, burying his face in the comforter beneath him. It wasnât so much that he was heartbroken, but embarrassed and ashamed of what had happened including the fact the Bryce had seen him like that. âThere is no way Iâm getting up todayâ came a muffled groan, although luckily heâd arranged to have the whole weekend off anyway. The young Doctor struggled out of his pants, socks and jumper before crawling underneath the sheets, trying to hide from everything that had happened. He couldnât face itâŚNot yet.
âCasey, if you donât get up in five minutes I swear to God Iâm going to throw a bucket of cold water on youâ.
The yelling from the door awoke him, and Casey poked his head out of under the sheets. âShuddup, Jackie!â he yelled back, throwing a pillow at the door. âIâm not working today!â.
âI know!â came a reply, âbut for the tenth time youâve got a visitor and if I have to make small talk for much long Iâm going to go insaneâ.
âTell them to go awayâ he muttered half-heartedly, burying his head back down into his pillow.
âOh for the love of; just go in thereâ he heard Jackie say, someone else responding in a muffled tone. Casey groaned and threw another pillow at the door, just as it opened, hitting the guest square in the face.
âHi to you too, sleepy headâ.
âBryce!â Casey exclaimed, scrambling to sit up. âI-Iâm sorry, I didnât know you were thereâ.
The reply was laughter, and the surgeon gently closed the door behind him. âHey, no worries. A strange guy barging in your room, I get it. Iâm just glad you didnât hit lunchâ. He held up a paper bag and two cups of coffee.
âLunch? Oh man, what time is it?â. Casey sat up properly, rubbed his face and tried to feebly fix his hair which was sticking up all over the place.
âUmâŚJust er, just past twoâ.
âYou okay? You sound a bit nervousâ.
âOh, me? Yeah, totally fine. JustâŚyou knowâŚâ he gestured to Caseyâs half naked body, sheets curled around him like the damn Venus de Millo.
âOh! Shit, sorry er let me justâŚâ Casey leaned over, more of the covers slipping down his body and revealing his toned chest and back making Bryce swallow hard. âIâve got a jumper somewhereâŚâ he leaned even further, grey boxers peeking out from beneath the sheet. If Bryce hadnât been holding two hot cups of coffee, he wondered if heâd be able to keep his hands to himself.
âThereâŚSorryâ Casey smiled, albeit a bit awkwardly, now wearing the slouch grey sweater from the previous night.
âDonât apologiseâ Bryce said, smiling easily as he sat down next to Casey on the bed. âI mean, that just gave me a huge flashback as to why Iâm so into you in the first placeâ.
âOh donât, Iâm a complete messâ Casey laughed, gratefully taking the hot drink and pastry Bryce had bought over. âSoâŚWhat brings you here? Unless you were hoping to catch me half nakedâ.
âWell, not just thatâ Bryce responded, grinning now. âI was just worried I guess. About youâŚAbout last night. You were in such a state, Caseâ.
The diagnostician nodded glumly, and looked to the floor, playing with the plastic coffee cup. âI wasâŚAm. I donât knowâ.
âI donât wanna pry, butâŚI kinda also had an ulterior motive for coming over?â.
Casey looked back at Bryce, who was serious in his expression. âOh?â.
âIâm not blind, Casey. It doesnât take a hotshot Doctor like you to work out you were waiting for someone last night for a hook-up or whatever, and they didnât show. I justâŚI want a straight answer, I guess? You know how I feel about you, and I didnât come here to upset you more or stress you out, and if you want me to go just tell me and Iâll leave butâŚI really, really like you Casey. Like, like youâŚBut if thereâs someone else or youâre not into me then Iâd rather knowâ.
Casey sighed, guilt knotting in his stomach. âYouâre not wrongâ he answered, shaking his head. âBut it wasnât just a hookup. It was with someone Iâve been waiting for, andâŚI donât know, he means a lot to me in lots of different waysâ.
Bryce nodded, thinking carefully. âItâs Dr Ramsey, right?â.
Casey almost spat out the coffee heâd been drinking, and his head snapped to Bryce. âHow did you-â.
âYouâre phoneâ Bryce admitted, rubbing the back of his neck. âI didnât mean to, I swear, but last night when I dropped you off your phone was left in the cab. I mean Iâve suspected for a while that somethingâs been going on between you two. Then, about 5am this morning, your phone lit up with an onslaught of messages, missed calls, voicemailsâŚAll from himâ.
Casey laughed, sadly. âWell, youâre right. It was him. I was foolish enough to think he might want to be with me, and look where it got me. Clown numero unoâ.
âHey!â Bryce snapped, âif anyoneâs the clown here, Casey, itâs Dr Ramsey! If youâd been waiting for me, there is no way I wouldâve missed it, no matter what happened! Iâd never make you feel like you did last night, Iâd never let you down or humiliate you or make you search for help from someone elseâ.
Casey looked away. âI was wrong to contact you last night, I justâŚâ
âYou like me, right?â.
Casey looked over at Bryce. âOf course I doâ.
âYou like like me, right?â.
ââŚ.BryceâŚâ.
âYouâve been avoiding being with me because youâve been waiting for him, right? When he pissed off to the Amazon for God knows how long you were being faithful, you didnât sleep with me, because you thought you had something with him, right?â.
ââŚYesâ.
Bryce took a deep breath, a small smile on his lips. âYou donât know how relieved I am that this has been going onâ.
Caseyâs brow furrowed and he frowned, confused and a little hurt. âRelieved? Why the hell would you be relieved?â.
âListen, Casey, Iâve been in all sorts of relationships before. Threeway, fourway, Iâm with her and sheâs with him way. I thought you didnât like me! I thought thatâs why you were staying away from me! It doesnât bother me who youâre with, me and someone else at the same time, whatever. You can want to be with more than one person. It doesnât make you an asshole, it just means youâve got a lotta love to give, Caseyâ.
The other man felt tears welling in his eyes. âI had to choose, Bryce, and IâŚI chose Dr Ramsey. But he didnât choose me. I donât know how that makes me feel. I was so certain and nowâŚI donât know, manâ.
Bryce reached out, and cupped Caseyâs cheek in his hand. âI would never make you chooseâ he said softly. âAs long as I get to be a part of whateverâs going on in your life, Iâm game. I know itâs not the orthodox way of doing things, and people have called me easy and seconds and all sorts of other shit just because they think you can only be with one person at one time but thatâs not how I feel. I canât help how I feelâŚWhat I feel about relationships. About you. And I want you, Casey, I want you to be mine so damn muchâ.
Casey closed his eyes, shook his head. âReally? After everything thatâs happened? All the shit Iâve put you through?â
Bryce laughed. âIf Iâve learnt one thing, Case, itâs that something thatâs worth it is never easy or straightforward. But that makes it all the sweeter in the endâ. Bryce gently leaned forwards, and placed a kiss on Caseyâs forehead. âYou, Casey Valentine, are worth it". He moved away. "Thatâs all I came to say. Iâm sorry for bombarding you after such a rough time, but I felt like I was going to explode if I didnât tell you how I felt. To let you know that, no matter what, youâve got me. Alwaysâ. He stood up, brushed himself off. âIâllâŚgo nowâ he said calmly. âI donât expect an answer straightaway, I know how hard being let down can feel justâŚThink about what I said, okay? You know where I am when youâve made up your mindâ.
Casey nodded, clutching the coffee cup hard as he swallowed. âBryce?â.
The surgeon turned around from where he had gotten up. âYeah?â
âThanksâŚFor everythingâ.
âNo worries. See you later?â.
Casey nodded, seeing that signature smile from the surgeon that made his heart flutter. âFor sureâ. The door shut, footsteps retreated down the hall, and the diagnostician took a deep, calming breath. âHow could I of been so stupidâ he muttered, scalding himself. Casey wasnât the type of person to be strung along, or not get what he wanted. The past year had proven that to him more than any other part of his life, from back when he was a student clawing and fighting his way through medical school to be the best, because heâd decided he was going to go to Edenbrook and study under Dr Ramsey and Dr Banerji; to fighting and defeating big pharma so recently because they were withholding life saving treatments, and not letting people live the way they wanted to. âStop fucking moping! Get a grip! Whatâs wrong with you, youâre Casey motherfucking Valentine!â. He stood up, put the coffee cup down so hard it spilled on the side. âWhen do you ever get screwed over? Never! Do you sit and whine like a bitch!? No!â. He was in front of the full length mirror now, glaring at himself. âYouâve been chasing your tail for months you total moron, and for what? To be stood up? To have the best damn thing thatâs happened to you walk out the door? No freaking way!â. Without thinking a second longer, Casey bolted out of his room, sprinted through the apartment and out into the corridor. He saw the lift closing, and cursed to himself, before running for the stairs. He took them two at a time, slipping in bare feet across the mixture of carpet and cheap lino. Casey skid to a halt in the entrance way after too many damn flights of stairs, and his eyes darted around. âBryce!â he yelled, panting, as he saw the other man at the door of the building.
âCasey!? Oh my God, whatâre you doing!?â Bryce ran over to him, and quickly shrugged off his jacket, covered up Caseyâs bare legs by wrapping it around his waist. âYouâre half naked, dude!â.
âI know!â Casey said, breathless, âbut I just wanted to say that I was fucking stupid, and you donât need to wait for my answer any more, youâve waited and waited all this time-â
âCaseyâ
âAnd Iâve been a complete dick and Iâm sorry, I was so lost and confused and-â
âHey, Caseâ
âSo fucking stupid! But I just wanted you to know that-â.
His rambling was cut off by a kiss, and Casey returned the gesture eagerly, breathing hard through his nose from where heâd been running and ranting.
âShall we take this conversation back to your room?â.
Having now calmed down a little, the Doctor glanced around, and flushed deep red, suddenly very aware of the various onlookers. âErâŚYeah. Right nowâ.
Bryce laughed and slipped his hand around Caseyâs waist, guiding him back to the elevator.
âIs it wrong that Iâm kinda turned on right now?â he teased, as they stepped inside the metal box.
âAll kinds of wrongâ Casey smiled back, "but but don't care, do you? About what other people think?".
"Nope".
Casey smiled. "Thatâs what I like about youâ.
"Is that allyou like?".
The diagnostician hit Bryce lightly, before finding his hand and linking their fingers gently. "One of many things, Lahela. One of many".

____________________________________________________
The first week was hard, but manageable. Ethan threw himself into work, taking extra shifts when he could get them and staying at the office to work on the diagnostic teams cases. The other staff members put this down to him trying to make up for the length of time he had been away, but the real reason was much closer to home. Because, when he ran out of things to do, his mind wandered to Casey and his last words. âWhat I really wantâ. The senior Doctor had repeated that phrase over and over, almost as if it were a mantra. He realised, not too soon after saying goodbye to Dr Valentine, that the time he had spent in in the Amazon had not been remotely helpful in guiding him to what he really, truly, wanted. Heâd spent far too much time trying to hide from his feelings, not entertain the thought of embracing them.
Often, when he allowed himself a walk to the local coffee shop, he would attempt to imagine his life with, and without, Casey Valentine. The ironic thing was, that every time he went to the coffee shop, he would be reminded of the other Doctor, their times together and conversations. His walks started to take him a different route, and he began to frequent standing in front of a small, inconspicuous jewellery shop. They had very pretty rings and necklaces, and elegant headpieces and bracelets. He would stare at them, not really taking in the sight, as he thought about what it would be like to live with Casey as his partner. Embrace his feelings. To show him off, take him to fancy dinners and introduce him to his father, formally, all the things a good partner would do. He made his mind up quickly, within 48 hours, so he was relatively calm as the week rolled to an end, although he subconsciously checked his phone one too many times. But the following Monday morning came, and no contact from Casey followed. One weeks silence rolled into two, and two soon turned into four. He, of course, questioned Naveen almost endlessly about where Casey was, but he would be told that Mass Kenmore still needed him, and to be patient, and they hadnât agreed an end date. So Ethan waited. Every day that ticked by, he would walk by the jewellery shop. Week three he went inside. Week five, and he left with a box. It was inconspicuous enough, but he hid it in his pocket none the less, until he was back at his office. He opened it, slowly, and regarded the simple platinum watch inside. It was handsome yet refined, and Ethan had chosen it specifically for the practicality. After all, he couldnât have a flashy watch around the hospital. He then pulled up his sleeve, and looked upon the watch already sitting on his wrist. In fact, it had been there since heâd received it at his graduation; a gift from his father. The watch had belonged to his father, and his father before him and before him, who was gifted it by some sort of British royal family member for bravery or some such as Ethan understood it. It wasnât shiny and new, although it was beautiful and intricate. You wouldnât know looking at it, but the single item was more valuable to Ethan than anything else could be, from a sentimental point of view. For a man who was not overly enamoured with the idea of sentimentality and material items, it really was priceless. It represented courage, and reminded him of how proud he was when he graduated. How happy he was to see his father smile. It represented history casting back decades, his family, and it was timeless. Unending. He supposed it could be referred to as an heirloom. The watched slipped from his wrist, and he placed it in the box, now labelled with a simple red card. âTo Caseyâ it read, âMy Choiceâ. Heâd told the other Doctor once of how much the watch meant to him and the history of it, after the young diagnostician had enquired as he enquired of all things that piqued his interest. Ethan hoped that, by giving over the item most valuable to him, that his feelings would be understood not just through words, but by actions. How Ethan intended to commit to Casey, and him only. Of course, he still hadnât heard Caseyâs answerâŚHe could only pray. As if on cue, after five and a half weeks, his phone suddenly lit up with a notification. Ethan practically leapt for his phone when he saw the name. Sorry itâs taken so long. He smiled at the simplicity. I have been unbelievably crazy at Mass Kenmore, and I promised myself I wouldnât rush my decision but⌠I hate to admit how difficult itâs been not being able to vent to you. Ethan relaxed in his chair, reading the words as if they were gospel. Oh, andâŚplease donât respond to these messages. Ethan deleted the small amount of text heâd already written. But, Iâve made my choice. I suppose itâs good, in a way, itâs taken so long. Itâs given you plenty of time to decide. I hope? âYou have no ideaâ Ethan replied softly, wishing he could tell Casey everything there and then. Anyway, Iâll give you my answer at the following address. Iâve checked your diary online and can see youâre free, so donât even try and chicken out okay? If youâre there at 7pm, this Friday, youâll find out my answer. If youâre not thereâŚIâll know yours. See you? He waited, but no more text came. It was Wednesday, so he had two days. âIâll be there, Caseyâ he said, firmly, clutching the box with his watch in. âChrist, nothing could stop meâ.
Thursday and Friday seemed to drag on longer than the previous five weeks. Every minute was agonisingly slow, and at night sleep didnât come to him easily at all. It was 6pm on Friday, at last, and he was finished for the day. Ethan made a straight beeline for his office, and quickly changed out of his work clothes into something, he hoped, would be pleasing to the eye. He was never one for fashion, but he had sought the guidance of a helpful shop clerk, and bought a new dark blue shirt that was slim-fitted, and a pair of black jeans which, in his opinion, were far too tight. The clerk said he looked âhot as hellâ, so Ethan had purchased them. He was questioning it a little as he fastened a pair of cufflinks on to match the new watch heâd purchased himself and laced his shoes. 18:22. The motel address Casey had given him was 31 minutes away, on the outskirts of town. Traffic would be quiet going out of town on a Friday night, so if he took the back roads and picked up the main road at junction 7âŚHis train of thought was cut off by a sharp rapping on his door. He cursed under his breath. Ethan had been very thorough and straight that, tonight, he was not to be disturbed. That he had an important meeting, and he was unavailable to anyone from 6pm. So, whomever was at his door now was about to get âunavailableâ seriously explained to them. Grumbling, and one arm in his coat, he opened the door; already poised to unleash. âDr Emery!â he exclaimed, quickly stepping back from the woman outside his office.
âDrâŚRamseyâŚâ.
Her voice was strained and her eyes red, as if sheâd been crying heavily. âHow, um, sorryâ. He composed himself and opened the door a little wider. âHow can I help?â. He still had timeâŚJust.
She looked awkward, like being with him was the last thing she wanted. âI need to talk to you. Urgentlyâ.
âSorry, Harper, but-â
âI know, I know, youâve got some top secret meeting to attend. Donât think I came here lightly, I know how many extra hours youâve given recently but this canât wait, Ethanâ.
Her tone was so severe that he automatically stepped aside. She let herself into his office, and he closed the door behind them.
âSo, how can I help?â. His eyes darted to the clock on the far wall. 18:27.
Harper turned towards him, fresh tears brimming in her eyes. âYou have to believe that I didnât thinkâŚI mean I didnât know-I didnât mean for it, Ethan!â. Her tone was almost desperate.
The senior doctor furrowed his eyebrows, concern evident. This was entirely unlike the stoic Harper he knew, so it must be something serious. âWhatâs happened, Harper?â.
The other doctor didnât say anything, just reached one shaky hand into her purse and pulled out a small item.
Ethanâs eyes widened and his words caught in his throat, sickness rushing to his stomach. There was no need to be a Doctor to recognise what was in her hand. Hell, as long as you could read instructions youâd know. âYou canât be seriousâ he whispered, a torrent of emotions swamping him at the sight of the two small, red lines.
âYou think Iâd joke about this!?â she snapped, tears streaming freely. âPlease, Ethan, I needâŚWe need to talk about thisâ.
Anything that he had felt, or known, or decided up until that moment suddenly seemed pointless. Like there was never going to be an option, or a point, to everything heâd prepared up for this day. For Casey. His arm dropped, coat slipping off of his arm to the floor with a clatter, the sound of the box meant for Casey hitting the floor. On auto-piolet, he gestured to the couch in his office and Harper moved towards it, as Ethan slowly closed the door to the room, shutting out the worldâŚAnd his world. He knew that if Casey had chosen him, that his mind was made up. One thing the older doctor admired about the younger was his tenacity, and his unwillingness to shift on any decision heâd made. But if Ethan didnât showâŚWhat would that do to Casey? But if Harper really was...If he was going to be...He couldnât leave her. He couldnât abandon her. It took two of them to tango after all and there was no was he would turn into his mother. Click. The door locked, and Ethan stepped towards Dr Emery.
Casey had been at the motel for a few hours, anxious. Heâd made sure to leave plenty of time to get ready, to leave Mass Kenmore and sort out the few patients heâd picked up responsibility for. It had been a rough, long few weeks but the day was finally here and he wasnât going to let anything, or anyone, spoil it. 7pm rolled around, and his eyes were fixated on the motel door. He sat at the end of the bed, in plain sight of the clock on the wall by the door. Candles were dotted around the whole place, and heâd made an effort to look as good as he could. Showered, freshly laundered clothes, new cologne. He was wearing an oversized jumper that he knew Ethan liked and jeans. Simple, but Casey was hoping they wouldnât be too focused on clothesâŚIf he turned up. âHeâll be hereâ the doctor repeated for the hundredth time. 7:15 came and went, and Casey looked out the window. Again. âItâs fineâŚThe traffics bad. Thatâs allâ. He checked his phone just in case. 8pm. He checked his phones history. Checked the address heâd sent earlier in the week. 9pm. The candles started to snuff out, one by one. 11pm. Casey was laying on the motel bed, feelingâŚHe could only describe it as numb. His eyes hurt, and had long since run out of tears. Casey Valentine has chosen Ethan Ramsey, and Ethan Ramsey had chosen someone else. A thousand scenarios had run through his head to try and explain why Ethan didnât show but none of them made sense. Not this late. Not with no text, no call. His hands were shaking as he lay in the now dark room, the few candles still burning not enough to light the room. Without thinking, he grabbed his phone and dialled a number that had become foreign in the last few weeks.
âCasey! Man itâs been a long time! Howâs Mass Kenmore treating you!â.
ââŚâ.
ââŚCase? You there, dude?â.
âBryceâŚâ.
The others tone changed entirely as he heard Caseyâs voice. âHey, Iâm hereâŚWhatâs going on? You sound like youâve been screaming for hoursâ.
âIâŚI need you. Sorry, no I donât I justâŚWhatâs that noise?â
âOh, Iâm out with some college buddies. Doesnât matter. Where are you, Casey?â.
âOh, no, Bryce go and enjoy yourself. Iâm sorry I calledâ.
âHey! Donât you dare go, Caseyâ.
âWhy?â
âBecause I want to know where you areâ.
âWhy? It doesnât matter, youâre busyâ.
âTough. It does matterâ.
âWhy?â.
âBecause you matter, Casey. You sound like hellâ.
The diagnostician laughed, fresh tears welling in his eyes. âI feel like hellâ.
âWhere are you?â.
Casey told Bryce the address, and after a quick âIâll be there as soon as I canâ they hung up. The sound of someone elseâs voice managed to pull Casey out of his stupor, and he started wrapping things up at the motel. He gathered the candles, and left an envelope on the side with cash along with the key. He called the reception, told them his plans had changed and the room would be empty for the night. He picked up his other bits, pushed them all into a bag just as he heard a car pulling up outside. This late, it was pretty safe to assume it was BryceâŚIf it wasnât Ethan. âItâs not him you idiotâ the young doctor muttered bitterly. As he  gathered his things and left the room, looking around at the cold, empty space, he realised that as soon as that door closed he would be shutting it forever. As in, Ethan RamseyâŚForever. âGoodbye, Doctorâ he whispered, before the door clicked shut, and he met Bryce halfway to the car. The surgeon was out of breath and panicked. âTake me homeâ Casey practically begged , as he felt warm arms wrap around him, soothing and safe.He buried his his into Bryceâs chest, squeezed his eyes shut.
âWhatever you needâ came a gentle reply. No questions, no explanation required as to why the hell Casey was crying in a motel in the early hours of the morning. Just comfort. âIâm here, Case. Iâll always be here for youâ.

"I don't know how to apologise for last night again".
"Honestly, Bryce, it's fine. You can apologise by stopping apologising!"
"I had no idea Keiki would be home I swear! I promise I told her to stay away as long as she could, but-".
"My God, Bryce, you're telling me that you didn't know that your runaway teenage sister would be a distraught, crying mess because she got a fucked up message from your parents last night? How cruel of you not to be able to see the future". Although sarcastic, Casey's snide comment was meant in a sincere way. It was infuriating how Bryce was always the one to blame himself, but that selflessness made him...Well, him. Heâd never met someone so arrogant and confident, yet completely humble.
"Alright, alright! No need to rub it in!" the surgeon responded, pushing Casey a little.
"Hey! Watch the coffee!".Â
They'd met up at the subway station that morning and grabbed a takeaway breakfast on the way to Edenbrook after the previous night hadn't gone exactly to plan .They'd arrived at Bryce's place, clothes half off, but as soon as they got into his apartment any mood quickly disappeared as the sound of crying filled the apartment. Casey had then spent most of the night consoling the siblings, calming Keiki down and trying to make some sense of her distraught ramblings, and talking Bryce down from flying off the handle. It was the early hours of the morning before he left them to talk it out alone. When Casey got back to his own home, he was asleep before his head hit the pillow. "I just hope Keiki is alright...She was in all sorts of mess yesterday".
Bryce nodded as they entered the Atrium. "She's okay now, mostly thanks to you. I don't know how I got so lucky, you know".
Casey gave him a questioning look. "How so?".
The surgeon smiled, and gently stroked the back of Casey's cheek with his hand. "You're not only gorgeous, but you're kind and caring, and you spent your night talking with my sister for no reason. I mean, I know you're friendly with her but...I don't know. I appreciate it, is all. I appreciate you...And I like having you at my side. I could get used to it, you know?â.
"Bryce, she matters to you" Casey responded, smiling as he laced his fingers with the surgeons. "And you matter to me. I wanted to talk about us, actually, about...you getting used to it".
Before the pair could share any further conversation, a sharp clearing of the throat made them practically leap apart. "Oh! Dr Ramsey!" Bryce smiled easily, relaxing. "You made us jump".
"You know why that is, don't you?" the senior Doctor replied, face stern. "Because you're here to work, not to socialise. Dr Lahela, I assume you're expected in surgery. And Dr Valentine, I wasn't expecting you to grace us with your presence this morning. Won't Mass Kenmore miss you?".
"I'm here for my affects, Dr Ramsey" came a sharp response. Casey turned towards Bryce, his face apologetic. "Um, see you later?".
Bryce nodded, a little relieved to be able to walk away; the tension between those two was practically palpable. He assumed Dr Ramsey was pretty pissed Casey had agreed to go to Mass Kenmore for a spell. After saying their goodbyes, albeit a bit awkwardly, Casey turned to Ethan. "What do you want, Dr?".
"I meant what I said. I wasn't expecting you here this morning. But, now you are here, I wanted to talk".
Casey frowned. "Didn't you get the hint yesterday?". He moved to leave, but Ethan blocked his path. "About your transfer, then, purely professional. I need the particulars".
Casey sighed, relenting. "I'm going to the Diagnostics office to get my things, come with if you want to. There's a department meeting about distributing my patients, so it should be quiet. Although I imagine you're supposed to be in that meeting, right?".Â
Ethan didn't respond, and the walk to the office was long and awkward; longer than normal. Casey daren't take the elevator; having one of Edenbrooks most prestigious Doctors burning gaze on the back of his head was enough closeness let alone being confined in an an inescapable metal box, even for 30 seconds. They finally arrived in the office, Casey feeling like he'd just walked into the lions den as Ethan shut and locked the door behind him. "So I'm guessing you wanting to keep it professional was a lie" the younger Doctor said flatly. "Then again, lying just comes easy to you now doesn't it". Casey turned around, ready to have another verbal fight with his superior, but the sight caught him off guard. Ethan was leaning against the closed door, shoulders slumped and head down. It was only now that the bags beneath his eyes and his untidy hair were apparent. He hadn't slept well the previous night...He looked stressed. Really stressed.
"When you left yesterday" Ethan spoke, his voice soft and sincere, "it hit me like a tonne of bricks. I didn't know what to do or think or...I was just picturing you with Dr Lahela and I...I couldn't focus or think straight. It felt so wrong that you were going out with someone else, not me".
Casey's gaze softened a little, and he took a step towards Ethan, before he remembered what had transpired. He stopped moving, gaze hardened, and responded. "But you had plans of your own, didn't you? Even though you invited me over yesterday. I saw you, last night, with Harper".
"What? How did...I mean I wasn't-".
Casey sighed, exasperated. "I don't know how many more times you can lie to me, Ethan, but it's not making this situation any easier". Casey turned away to start packing up again.
"You're right!" Ethan agreed, grabbing Casey's arm where the younger doctor had moved away. "I was with Harper last night. We went to the Opera".
Casey's heart stung at that. "And?â
"And we had drinks afterwards. I went to her place".
"Did you sleep together?"
Ethans silence was all the answer Casey needed. "You know what? I don't even care. It's none of my business, anyway".
"You slept with that male model wannabe, right?" Ethan retorted, as if trying to make is own sin lesser. Â
Casey grit his teeth. "Not that it's any of your business, but no. I didn't. We went back to his place, but he had family issues so I went home. Alone".
"But you came in together this morning".
"Oh for Gods sake we met on the way in and got coffee. What, you want a play-by-play of my morning?".
"No...No, of course not...". The relief on Ethans face made Casey's stomach flip.
"I didn't sleep with Harper".Â
Casey raised an eyebrow. "Oh come on, like I'm going to believe that. I saw you in the street together".
Ethan stepped towards Casey. "Believe what you want, but it's true".
Casey's eyes began to well with frustration and tiredness. He couldn't take it, standing this close to Ethan. He could feel the warmth of his skin and his scent was thick in the air, comforting and enticing when it should repel him, remind him of all the hurt. "Why are you doing this to me?" he whispered. âAfter everything, after I waited for you to come back to me...After asking the stars every night thatâd youâd come home and weâd be fine, and then to find out youâd been...â he trailed off. âI was going to be with Bryce. I'd made up my mind, but I can't get you off of it, even last night when I was treated like a goddamned King all night I was thinking about you and the only thing that made me want to be with Bryce was because I saw you with her". A few stray tears fell down his cheeks, which were wiped away by Ethans warm thumb.
"You don't want Bryce, and I donât want Harper" Ethan whispered boldly, toe to toe now. "You want me...and I want you, Casey, so much that I can't think straight and its driving me mad".
"You're right. I do want you...but its not healthy". Casey looked up into Ethans eyes. "You have no idea how hard it was for me when you disappeared, Ethan. What it did to me...coming to this place every day, not seeing you or hearing your voice...I walked to your apartment, sat outside for hours and hours just trying to remember what it was like to be with you. Sienna staged a damn intervention for Gods sake". He shook his head, ashamed and embarrassed to be telling Ethan this at all, how pathetic it sounded. "You know it, I know it. Us, me, this whole fucking situation isn't healthy. It never has been, not since we kissed in that hotel room. But Bryce...Bryce is good for me. Too good for me. You're...you're like some drug. I keep hurting, because you make me hurt over and over and I hate it but...God help me I want more". Casey's eyes fluttered closed and he inhaled, long and deep, savouring the smell in the air. "It's like the pain keeps me going some days, like I need it. I need you to just...Frustrate me. Toy with me. It's disgraceful, and shameful how much I want it".
"Then take it...because I want you too, Casey".
Take it...those two words. All at once it was like clarity after months of being in a storm hit the younger Doctor. He could see clearly for the first time in a long time. He could take it, if he wanted. The secrecy and the taboo that gave him such a thrill, stolen kisses and secret rendezvous from the man that broke his heart over and over, but could tape it up with a kiss or a gentle touch. The pain he'd become addicted to and reliant on because he'd had nothing else for so long, twisted into some sort of warped affection. Who knows, it could blossom into a proper, loving relationship where they had the dog, house and a damn picket fence. Or it might not. Or he could take an easy life. A healthy, happy life. Have a boyfriend who treated him right, showed him off in public, with a heart of gold. Someone who never hurt him, was loyal and funny and confident. "How much of a masochist do you think I am?" Casey breathed, placing his hands flat on Ethans chest. He heard the other doctor inhale sharply at the touch and he lowered his voice, trailed his tongue along his bottom lip and delighted at the sight of Ethans adams apple bobbing. "How about you? Are you a sadist, Dr Ramsey?". He looked up at Ethan through glassy, tear filled eyes, and slowly raised himself up on his toes, inching closer and closer, seeing how far he could push it.
The older doctor cupped Casey's cheek in his palm, trying desperately to be gentle but visibly struggling. "For you, rookie, I'd be anything".
Who moved first wasn't obvious, but what was obvious was how Casey clutched onto Ethan as their lips met, like if he let go the whole thing would be a dream and how Ethans arms easily slotted around Casey's body, remembering the familiar dance. How many days had Casey been desperate for this touch? How many nights had he imagined being with him again? Casey moaned
unashamedly, and was answered by a grunt from Ethan. Soon he felt his back hit the wall of the diagnostics office, the kiss becoming more and more intense, like it was air for both of them. His fingers and toes curled and heat coiled easily in his stomach, making him weak at the knees and red with blush. But a thought suddenly hit him, unwanted and sobering. Hadn't he been in this situation recently? Last night even? Back pressed against a wall, Bryce making him feel a mess of things, ready to go back to his apartment and forget all about Ethan? Casey suddenly pulled away and gently pushed Ethan back, leaving the other man flustered and wanting. "What the hell are we doing" the younger whispered, tearing up again. "What are you doing to me, Ethan?".
Eyes dark with desire, the other Doctor took a deep, calming breath; desperately trying to stay steady. "I should be asking you the same thing".Â
Casey pushed Ethan back a little further and stepped away from other man. "Why didn't you sleep with Dr Emery?".
Ethans brow furrowed, and he straightened his hair, glanced away. "I couldn't get you off of my mind. The things you said...the thought of losing you".
Casey nodded slowly. "Did you tell her? Did you say you had feelings for someone else? That you werenât getting back together?".
Ethan gulped. "No...No, I didn't."
"I didn't think so" he replied. "Keeping her as a fallback in case I said no, huh? In case you couldn't get back in my pants". Casey knew that was harsh, but being upfront with Ethan seemed to be the only way to elicit any sort of decisive answer.
The other Doctor floundered in response. "No! Nothing like that!" he insisted, "I just made my excuses and left, I...I didn't want her to make your life any harder. If I'd said there was someone, who do you think she'd guess? It would only be you, rook".
"I'm not your rookie anymore" Casey replied. "Your my boss, not my mentor. I want you to be my...I need you to be...Heh. You see?" Casey smiled sadly. "I don't even know what I want you to be". He took a deep breath and went quickly to the door, unlocked and opened it before he changed his mind. "I really do need to pack for Mass Kenmore...I won't see you for at least a week. Don't want to see you for at least a week. I don't want you to call me, or message me, or try and see me. I need time, Ethan, to get my head straight".
"To choose, you mean". Ethan walked towards Casey, fingers itching to reach out, but he respected the other Doctors wish and instead stepped into the corridor. "Yes. To choose. To choose between you, you infuriating creature. You, who I would've sold my soul to even be near a year ago. You, who tramples me over and over and God I keep coming back for more. I cant get enough of it. Of you". His cheeks flushed, and he looked away. "Or Bryce. Bryce who is warm and friendly. Bryce, who has waited for me and never hurt me. Bryce, who could have anyone he wanted on the nurse team and probably most of the Doctors because hes gorgeous and confident and selfless. Bryce...who spent half his pay packet on a freaking dinner and just my company was enough thanks".
Ethan cleared his throat. "If you choose me" he said gently, "I swear I'd do better for you. You make me want to be better...I don't do the whole touchy freely thing. Never have done, seemed pointless. Love is always one sided, that's what my mother and father showed me. I never wanted to be on the wrong side of it". He smiled, sadly. "But...for you, Casey, I'd throw away everything I've built to keep me safe over the years and I'd tear it down. I'd forget all I've taught myself, and damn anyone who tried to get in our way. I should've realised a hell of a lot sooner, but I need you, Casey. I-â.
"Don't you dare".Â
The warning was short, but so severe it cut Ethans words off.Â
"Don't you dare say anything else to me, don't say those words when you canât take them back". Casey looked away, and slowly started to close to door. "Goodbye, Ethan. If I were you, I'd use this time to decide what, or who, you want. What you really, truly want. More than anything. What you'd sacrifice everything for. When I've chosen, I'll let you know...I just hope you've got your own answer by then"Â
"Rookie its always-".
"See you sometime". Casey shut to door before his mentor could see the tears streaming down his face, and the weakness behind his eyes. Before he could say anything else. His knees were shaking, and his lips and legs still tingled from that kiss. Steeling himself, Casey smoothed his labcoat and gathered what items he'd need for Mass Kenmore. It was going to be a long, arduous week.Â
