“Wait, you’re just returning? Did you crash at Fiona’s?”

Emma walks over to the coffee machine and pours herself a generous cup. She takes a sip and sighs happily.

“I slept at Regina’s.”

Ruby nearly chokes on her water.

“What?”

“Well, Regina and I had a beautiful evening, and we decided that I would stay the night.”

Ruby raises an eyebrow and leans back against the kitchen counter. “So you go out with Regina Mills and then you guys decide that you should sleep there?”

Emma shrugs. “Well, technically, we didn’t go out. We ordered takeout and talked…”

She pauses, a smirk slowly appearing on her face.

“…until we didn’t talk anymore.”

Ruby looks up when Emma and Regina enter. Her brow arches as her eyes take in Emma’s messy hair and rosy cheeks before drifting toward Regina, who looks slightly flustered.

It is not their disheveled appearance that stands out, though. It is the way they look at each other.

Something happened while they were gone. Ruby is certain of it.

“What’s the plan?” Emma asks as she takes a seat beside her.

Ruby leans closer and furrows her brow. “Did you change your perfume?”

Emma narrows her eyes and shakes her head.

I think you mentioned elsewhere you have a story published. I understand some authors prefer to keep the fandom posting separate from the "published persona". But if you are ok with it, would you mind sharing your published work? I would like to check it out. Anyway, thanks for sharing your stories with us!!

Hello! Unfortunately, I never published anything (yet). What you might have seen, was me mentioning that I designed a book (basically did the layout of the pages and front and cover) for a publisher and published author.

Kathryn sighs and pinches the bridge of her nose. "You'll never forgive me for this, will you? As I said before, it was two years ago. It was a drunken one-night stand, and I even asked you beforehand."

That night, they had all gone out together, and at some point Kathryn had approached Regina, already a little tipsy, to tell her that she had been flirting with Emma. She had wanted to see where the night might lead, but only if Regina was okay with it.

So Regina had told her she didn't care. It was their business.

“Damn,” she breathes, running her finger along the smooth wooden edges. The work looks beautiful, even unfinished. “I guess I need to call Regina.”

Ruby furrows her brow. “Why Regina?”

“Oh right, I forgot to tell you. Her car broke down last night and so I helped her. While I changed the tire, she told me that the house and this carpentry used to belong to her dad.”

The waitress gasps as she looks around the dimly lit basement. “Holy shit, I knew nothing about that. To be fair though, the whole Regina thing remains a mystery.”

Emma understands his concern, and she even appreciates it. Regina can be tough and sometimes not nice at all. Most of the time she carries herself with a condescending and aloof air that makes others wary. It's understandable that her friends and family struggle to believe Emma when she tells them that Regina is capable of real love and deep emotions. Yet when Regina interacts with Henry, there is nothing but pure love and care shining through for the boy.
