reblog to tell a 14 year old that these are the very, very hard years and they're not wrong to feel the way they do.
I had a fifteen minute long crying session yesternight over the fact that all I was 10 years ago, at the ripe old age of 14, is lost and lonely, and now, at 24, I am neither and that filled me with so much gratitude
reblog to tell a teenager that these arenāt actually the best years of your life and that things can and will get better when you have independance and maybe are away from your situation right now.
Its me reblog to tell me that
I just think "data center water usage should be federally regulated," while less catchy and less emotionally charged, is a stronger political stance than "fuck AI." Targets the systemic flaw rather than a product, you know?
AGREE But let's take it farther:
Data centres shouldn't be allowed in areas that experience drought or are Koppen classification B category (arid and semi-arid).
They should have federally regulated water usage and be required to have heat and exhaust treatment ON SITE
They should have daily penalties for failing to meet zero emissions targets scaled to their profit margin (i.e. a percentage rather than a set amount) THAT ARE ACTUALLY ENFORCED.
NO DEFERRED PROSECUTION AGREEMENTS. EVER.
They must show provenance for EVERY piece of art and writing in their data sets, and show that they have made contracts to use EVERY SINGLE ONE before they are allowed to use them. Hold them to the same standards as every other form of media.
They must inform the end-user about data privacy and that chatbots are not a substitute for therapy, research, programming, work, school, and are not to be used for anything but novelty.
All of this would severely hobble them and expose how much of a turkey GenAI actually is. I doubt they can make money off it without theft and lies. It's a very expensive toy.
They should invent a sleeping for people with chronic fatigue that actually works.
idk who needs to hear this but if you have been putting something off bc it doesn't need to be done until the end of the month. we are almost done with the teens we are approaching the big numbers (the twenties). that date shall dawn upon you swiftly and without mercy before you know it. psa for everyone except me i got plany off time

Iāve noticed some posts around about how you canāt romanticize your life during a fascist regime and while I deeply sympathize with this sentiment, I want you to try to understand thatās what they want you to believe.
Fascism thrives best in the cesspool of hopelessness. They want us so confused and hopeless that we give in. When you give in, you donāt fight back.
If you wait for life to look good to do the things that bring you joy; life will still be bad - you will just have less joy.
As someone who has struggled with my mental health a lot for the last thirty years, I know this struggle firsthand. And changing this belief system - the one where you spend all of your time expecting bad things so you wonāt be surprised when they happen - itās the hardest work that I have ever done. And Iām not perfect; I still have setbacks. I still experience really real fears about the state of the world and the US, in particular, because thatās where I live.
But I made a vow to myself that I will not let the choices of others ruin my life. When I made that vow, I was thinking of my parents - but it applies to the state of the government right now, too.
There are still flowers in my garden, and ripe tomatoes, and itās almost pick-your-own apples season, and I have plans with my friends to go to as many cemetery ghost walks as we can find this October.
I still deserve to live. I still deserve to laugh. I still deserve to love. I still deserve to be as happy as I can be.
And you do, too.

My roommate and I have been doing an improv bit lately where you introduce yourself as Firstname Object, then state your purpose as something entirely unrelated.
Her, peeking into my room: H-hello? Hi, I'm Veronica Harmonica. My pet bear got loose, and I just can't find her anywhere. I'm s-so worried.
Me, rapidly adjusting my face like an ill-fitting mask: Yep, nope! No bears around these parts! Have not seen a bear alllllllll day.
Me, in a slow, dry British accent: Hello everyone. My name is Henry Horseshoes. [deep sigh] Rule number one of our hang-gliding experience is to always do exactly as I say.
Her, raising hand: What if--
Me, pointedly droning on: Rule number two. Never, ever question Henry Horseshoes. If you haven't the discipline to restrain your curiosity, you haven't any business hang-gliding in the first place.
Me, dancing into the kitchen first thing in the morning: What is up everybodayyy! My name is Brady Beanbag, and I am here! to! teach! you! ZUMBAAAAAAAA!
Her, barely conscious, gripping her tea mug: ....................................... I want a refund.

Me: āI JUST WANT SOMEONE TO TELL ME EVERYTHING IS OKAYš„ŗšā
*Doctor walks in with lab results*
Me : ā-NOT YOU!ā
there should be a such thing as a medical detective. you should be able to hire a doctor to figure out what the fuck is going on with you come hell or high water by consulting whatever specialists they can get their hands on, connecting your constellation of symptoms, etc, instead of 10000 different doctors for every distinct bone in ur body that all just kinda go "dang that sucks idk" when you present with more than one fucking symptom
a gentle reminder that you just need to make things a tiny bit better for your future self. reading one page, writing one sentence, getting half of a task done, itās still good.
*rips open chest w hands* where is the poem
I was thinking through what else Iām looking forward to this holiday season and I realized I havenāt mentioned it on here, just on discord, butā MY MOMS BEEN MAKING ME A REALLY COOL ART THING??
I think Iāve talked about it before, but my mom has been a quilter for most of my life and in the last few years started doing these really cool fabric collages, and it was my turn to request one so I asked for a phoenix cause Iām obsessed with this one art piece I did in art therapy ages ago
Anyway, my mom has been working on it and THIS was the last update I got???
Iām so excited for it?? Canāt wait to see where itās at by the time I get there this weekend
dude holy fucking shit???? this is. beyond insane. i also quilt, though i've never tried paper piecing - though this doesnt even look like that. this has surpassed any and every sort of traditional quilt work. i can't even imagine how this is put together. im just staring at it in absolute wonder. youve short circuited my brain with how beautiful that is, and 'beautiful' isnt a strong enough word for what this is
So, as far as I can tell, this is a technique involving cutting tiny pieces of fabric with the colors/patterns you want and pinning and using fabric glue, and then sometimes sewing over top depending on the size of the pieces (this is what Iāve gathered from listening to my mom talk about it, but I know she learned the technique from a specific artist I canāt remember the name of who sells books and classes). My mom also frequently uses tulle over areas with lots of small piecing, usually as a way to adjust color but also I think cause itās easier to sew the tulle piece than try and quilt aaaaalll of the little bits and pieces.
Hereās some pics from the workroom when I visited in November, and some pics from in-progress pieces before they were finished, if that gives you a better idea of how it works ^^
And hereās some finished pieces!
Update! I asked my mom for the name of the artist who she learned the technique from! If youāre curious about this style, you can find more info on her website! https://susancarlson.com/
Susan Carlson Quilts
Apparently sheās very generous with free tutorials as well as having books and workshops
Update! Re:technique, itās mostly glued at first, with extra glue as well as some free motion quilting on top over areas that donāt have tulle over them, and tulle stitched over some areas.
Also updates on the phoenix!
You can kinda see the metallic details on some of the fabrics chosen! I love them. Also a glimpse at some of the bits cut out to use in the tail!
Iāll sneak into the quilting room for more closeups of this and other pieces before I leave ^^
Updates! (First, oops I forgot to get more pics of the work room when I was home; family visits are always busier than expected)
I was given two options for background as my mom was finishing up the bird partā
I ended up picking the greener one cause I love all the gold stuff, and my mom added even more gold details for that mythical feel
So this is the current most recent form!
I'm going out of my fucking mind.
Reblogging so i can rejoice at the sheer beauty of this repeatedly!

Why Iām Still Wearing a Mask and Why That Bothers Some People
Why Public Health is much more important than Popularity
Why Public Health is much more important than Popularity Dr. Zachary Rubin Aug 16, 2025
Last week, I posted about wearing a mask. Over 900 people unfollowed me almost instantly, but something surprising happened after that: more than 10,000 new people followed. Thatās not just a numbers game; it tells a story about what it means to take a stand for your health and the health of others in 2025.
Why I Mask I donāt wear a mask because Iām scared. I donāt wear it because Iām trying to make a political statement. I wear it because itās a simple, effective tool that helps protect me, my family, my patients, and my community. Right now, respiratory viruses are circulating heavily. Schools are back in session, which means more kids getting sick and more germs spreading to families, and as an allergist, I know firsthand that people with asthma, chronic lung conditions, or compromised immune systems are at higher risk when these viruses surge. A mask reduces those risks. Masking helps when I am cleaning or when there are air quality alerts such as the wildfire smoke coming from Canada. For me, itās that straightforward.
Why Masks Spark Backlash Why would nearly a thousand people unfollow me just for posting about this? Because masks carry symbolic weight that goes far beyond their practical use. For some, wearing a mask feels like a reminder of the pandemic years they want to forget. For others, it triggers political or cultural divides. Here are a few common reasons people push back against masks: Fatigue: After years of pandemic precautions, many feel ādoneā with masking, even if viruses arenāt ādoneā with us. Identity: Masking became politicized, so for some, it now feels like a badge of belonging to the āother side.ā Inconvenience: Masks arenāt always comfortable, and people equate comfort with freedom. Denial: A mask is a visible acknowledgment that viruses still matter, and some people simply donāt want that reminder. Confusion: Many people have been convinced that masks donāt work based on misleading studies or nefarious people spreading disinformation. When you add those factors together, wearing a mask in public isnāt just about health, it has become a cultural flashpoint.
The Followers Who Left, and the Ones Who Stayed Losing 900 followers felt like rejection in the moment but then came the flood of new ones. Over 10,000 people who hit āfollowā because I spoke up about masking. That matters. It shows there are countless people who are relieved to see someone normalize precautions, who want science-driven voices in their feeds, and who donāt want to feel alone for making health-conscious choices. In a way, this is the exact tradeoff I want. If speaking honestly means losing people who see masks only as a threat to their identity but gaining those who see masks as a tool to stay safe and healthy, then thatās not a loss at all.
Why Iāll Keep Wearing One At the end of the day, masks are just one piece of the public health puzzle. Theyāre not perfect, but they are protective, and as long as viruses are circulating at high levels, Iāll keep wearing one. Not because I want to tell others what to do, but because I want to show that itās okay to care about your health, to care about your familyās health, and yes, to care about strangersā health too. If that costs me followers, so be it. However, if it inspires others to feel seen, validated, and supported, then it has been worth it.
People with low spoons, someone just recommended this cookbook to me, so I thought Iād pass it on.
I always look at cookbooks for people who have no energy/time to do elaborate meal preparations, and roll my eyes. Like, you want me to stay on my feet for long enough to prepare 15 different ingredients from scratch, and use 5 different pots and pans, when I have chronic fatigue and no dishwasher?
These people seem to get it, though. Itās very simple in places. Itās basically the cookbook for people who think, āIām really bored of those same five low-spoons meals I eat, but I canāt think of anything else to cook that wonāt exhaust meā. And itās free!

SPREAD THE WORD THIS IS FUCKING GOD TIER OH MY GOD, SOMETIMES I HAVE SPOONS SOMETIMES I DONāT BUT NO COOKBOOK OFFERS LEVELS IN THEIR RECIPES THIS ONE DOES!
I feel understood.
