OK. FINAL VERDICT: it was good but in a ryan murphy early seasons of american horror story were, like, the highs are HIGH the spark of genius is there but the lows, god, they are low. lestat's stage moment reminded me of jessica lange's iconic is there life on mars. impossible to fully hate a season of tv that asks: what if they did all of that because um. well they had many feelings. the most beautiful thing a story can be is a character apologist. that said the dip in quality from the first season is astonishing and i am sure the lack of black writers in the staff is the reason. i saw some posts say through the grapevine there was network interference as well, which is a shame. i love lestat i'm sorry i think he is somewhere in there haunting sam reid shining through when seen from the right angles but the unexamined misogyny and misogynoir of the writers is such a hindrance. my biggest critique of the finale is that it is so fucking stupid to spend so much budget in some gimmicky beheading shit that did not let jacob anderson like, fucking act? it pierced through the emotional weight of the scene and deflated it completely which is the definition of a disservice. god. christ. it's so racist. they robbed him of a moment and shot themselves in the foot to boot. my second biggest critique is i think they THINK they are writing women as important nuanced characters but botch the execution which just makes regina/claudia/gabrielle seem insane rather than characters with interiority and motivations other than serving the purpose of calling out the male main characters feministly. but lestat said some slay things and he and louis were in love and there were a lot of witty gags that made me laugh and i am a simple man when the tv move fast and say fast dialogue i am like this rules this is the best. i love tv

what's so awesome about miranda hamilton is that she knows full well that revenge brings nothing good and that it will probably make her and her loved ones and many innocent uninvolved people more miserable and that it would not be what the person she lost wanted and she has no illusions about any of it. but when push comes to shove even if the end she's been fighting for for two seasons is in sight she simply cannot let the bastard get away with it

before s2e10 she's sort of the reasonable moderate one the one who sees the human cost like she witnesses the woman holding her dead child when flint is bombarding the fort and grimaces in sympathy. and then her last wish is for charles town, a city demonstrably full of mothers and children and so on, to burn. and flint sees it done :)

i’m sorry but there must be a happy medium between proclaiming this show the most perfect and unproblematic to grace the planet, and saying that everyone who likes this show hates POC and queer people with a burning passion. as a fandom we CAN be more nuanced than this, some of the discussions right now are exhausting honestly
