Claudia hates him, only pretended to love him bc she just wanted to fuck with him i guess. Armand switched out his photographs just to fuck with him. Lestat is just "loving him how he needs to be loved" which i guess coercion, physical abuse, mental abuse, abuse towards their child, cheating and withholding huge pieces of information is "the way he needed to be loved"

i cant emphasize how insanely backwards and regressive this idea is. that some people just "need" abuse. this is how every single abuser justifies themselves, and im genuinely shocked the show is going this direction.

not to say louis is perfect hes horrible in his own way, but im tired of the consensus being "well if theyre both horrible maybe abuse is ok then :)" no matter how flawed you are, YOU DONT DESERVE ABUSE. PERIOD.

after all the beautiful writing and how well they addressed the abuse narrative in the first season, im so confused as to why they are pivoting to a 2012 tumblr fanfic level storyline about "toxic hot vampires" its so unbelievably flat and cold

besides the whole scene just retconning any information we knew about her (especially her saying she lied abt the threat from lestat??)

I think its very important that Claudias "spirit" DID NOT RECOGNIZE THEM she called Lestat "Daddy Lou" and i dont think that was random it was put in very intentionally. Im not sure who was tricking them, but someone was.

1. HE babytraps Louis not the other way around

2. He turned Nicki without his consent, if I remember right he's unconscious

these two acts are done out of desperation. He's terrified of loosing the one he loves so he grasps at anything he can hold onto. He makes a child vampire for Louis and makes him stay. He turns Nicki so he won't die from his wounds, knowing full well Nicki is deeply religious and will go mad from the knowledge his soul is now damned

and both of these events tell us a lot about Lestat's psyche before and after. It shows hes willing to throw other peoples lives and feelings around to get what he wants, and that he is terrified of abandonment over anything. It also puts into perspective why hes so sensitive about vampirism being seen as a "curse" or being called damned or a monster in any way. He used it for power, and when he tried to share it with the person he loved most, that person was disgusted with him and abandoned him and eventually took his own life.

this makes Lestat a MUCH more interesting and layered character. You can see Gabriella's upbringing so clearly in him. But for some reason the writers wanted to scrub these acts from his roster. Louis is the one who begs for claudia to he turned, and Nicki asks to be turned? and he just idk goes mad bc he was already a little crazy? thats it?

Lestat's perspective is just as if not more skewed than Louis'.

He tells stories in broken fragments shrouded in intense emotion that change his memories into music videos or cartoon episodes. Do we really all thing his family spent ALL their time screaming at the top of their lungs at the dinner table bullying Lestat and Gabriella ? Or is it more likely they were layered just like any other character and just as flawed? Did they all deserve to be murdered, including children by their own mother?

Who's to say, its all told from Lestat's perspective and they are long dead! Im sure they were loud, abusive, controlling, but did Lestat tell everything exactly perfect like we all demand from Louis and Armand?

I just feel this fandom treats Lestat like he can do no wrong, and if he does he has a "very good reason" something other characters are not afforded. Every. Single. Character. is flawed, lies, abuses. But Lestat, arguably one of the most flawed characters, often gets a pass.

When Lestat lies or exaggerates, its because hes traumatized and trying to protect himself or because hes just so smart hes overpowering Daniel. But when Louis does it, it's because hes a liar and a bad person.

And one thing this fandom constantly forgets is Claudia ironically. We forget her perspective (which takes up half of the first season and likely half of the second as well) is from her DIARY. First-hand perspective unclouded by the thought of an audience. Sure, she has her own biases. But much less than any other character. She writes things as they happen, and thinking no one will read it. No reason to lie outright! but this is never considered when Louis' season is taken into question. His story is scratched out as all lies, even though it wasn't just his story!
