HEATHERTOZER: on losing your friend again and again and again

I personally do not think Crozier is a particularly good leader. I think he is a good sailor and in a situation where he only needed to command a ship under normal conditions I'm sure he'd do fine if not well. That said, he lets his emotions and personal ties & grudges get in the way of his decision making. His alcoholism is absolutely part of that and I am not blaming him for that (addiction is a disease, etc).

It's really after his recovery that I consider, though. The crew was told he had been ill but surely at least some of them noticed his alcoholism. There must have been rumors in such tight quarters. The very first thing he does after reappearing is stop a party they were all looking forward to to tell them they have to walk 800mi on limited food. He builds a working and even fraternal relationship with Fitzjames but what has he done to gain the trust of the rest of the crew? As far as we know: nothing. Which is one thing for the Terrors and another thing entirely for the Erebites who don't know him and have been hearing from the Terrors who all voluntarily fled and have been debriefing on the brutal and obviously personal flogging.

He could have promoted another Lieutenant on Erebus or sent one of his over when the vast majority of his crew moved over there. Instead he waits until the point is fairly moot and elevates a steward (in a society & service with a very rigid structure) over men who are highly qualified. (Des Voeux had pass his lieutenant's exam but was working as a mate.) How do you think this reads to the greater populace? He repeatedly fails to take into account how his decisions will affect those (ie everyone) who server under him and how they will play out.

He clearly had his suspicions about Hickey and as a result concerns about Tozer. Had he communicated this at all to Little or Fitzjames, the entire opening of the armory might have been averted or at least handled differently. He also lets Hickey speak at his hanging to a point that significantly undermines him. Regardless of the fact that he thought Hickey was soon to be dead, he allows the opportunity for unrest & discontent to spread and reach men who probably would not have heard those claims before. This is not effective leadership!

Introducing Cold Boy Tapes- A Terror (2018) playlist event!

As anyone could guess, I’m cig or @bell-swamp-fitzjames here on tumblr, and I love Terror playlists. I found out about a fan run event called Terror Tracks and realized I could take up the mantle sort of to continue fostering a place where we can just share some music regarding the Terror (2018). The prompts I have come up with and will be sharing next week are also heavily inspired by Dave K’s Davechella playlist event, as I personally have been adoring seeing everyone’s character playlists. 

This is a lowkey event- participate however you can! Half the fun of making a playlist is seeing that people are listening to it :3 Check out this blog's page for more information about what's all this then. And if you have any questions, reach out <3

Rules:

1. In honor of my dead wife 8tracks, playlists must be at least 8 songs long. Beyond that, there is no set song number per playlist

2. Any kind of playlist is accepted- Apple Music, Youtube Music, Tidal, whatever streaming service you use, simply a written out list.

3. Because of number two, I have to insist you include a written out list of your playlist along with a link to the playlist itself. You could even do a whole write up on why you picked the songs even! 

4. The playlist subject can be Terror (2018) adjacent- Franklin Expedition playlists, other polar expeditions/explorers, North Water playlists if you feel like it

5. Though the event is called Cold BOY Tapes I really encourage considering our Cold Girls too and a reminder that gender is a construct. What would nonbinary Billy Gibson listen to?
