Hi everyone! I wanted to officially make a closing post for Cold Boy Tapes 2026, since I finally have the time.
There were over 100 entries for this event, with I think my final count as of right now being 123 playlists of some sort being shared. That's SO MANY. I do not know how to convey my gratitude to everyone who participated and still will- after all we now have literal hours of music to discover, rediscover, and enjoy! In my wildest dreams I could not have imagined this event being so popular.
Thank you everyone who has enjoyed some Cold Boy Tapes, you playlist makers out there are doing incredible work and there are so many playlists now that live rent free in my mind. I cannot thank everyone enough.
If there are any late entries anyone wants to share, make sure to tag this blog @cold-boy-tapes or you can always message me here or @bell-swamp-fitzjames - I know there's an end date but like whatever, come message me in January and we can still talk Terror and music. You can also check out my side blog @terrorpalooza which has Terror edits by various users and some other fanchellas reblogged there (tho I'm really slacking on that). I also have a neocities fan web site for all things The Terror (2018) and music if anyone wants to check that out.
I'll say up front I hope to run this event again next year- I am open to feedback if anyone has any.
I know Terror fans can look forward to @lieutenantfest coming in July (July 6th to be specific) & then for my music fans I'm going to yes once again say everyone should try to check out Pan Arctic Vision come October 2nd or when October 2nd passes of this year, you should come to my main blog and click on the VOD of the livestreams when I post about it.
Thank you everyone for such an incredible time! <3 - cig

note: I'm still using they/them Tozer as my chew toy so I may continue to rearrange the order of these songs or may add more as I continue messing with the playlist.
second note: the flag behind Tozer on the playlist picture is the non-binary transfemme flag
*
Cig wrote about Tozer possibly being a firefighter or paramedic in their fic and I wrote Tozer being a corps member in my fic, wherein both of these Tozers are non-binary somewhat/somehow. It's so perfect, because when I envision non-binary Tozer I imagine them a lot like (but not exactly like) my first partner that I had.
I met them in the corps and they had to hide their queerness because of the nature of working in the corps. They worked as a firefighter and then later as a paramedic. My partner also really liked 15 Minutes by Mike Krol and BOOGIE by Brockhampton so I put them in the playlist as homage.
I imagine Sol as the kind of person who would have to hide their queerness while working in the Marines or Navy, or whatever institution that they had to work in. I knew a lot of people in the corps who were closeted and didn't come out until they left. And maybe it's because they didn't realize or maybe it was because they were compelled to stay in the closet. I was one of them.
Now, I imagine that Sol's life is much better. They are no longer worried to tears about being outed and can live happily and out of the closet. They have queer friends. They do their nails and have all sorts of clothes to wear. Sometimes they let their beard grow out, sometimes they are clean shaven. They like perfumes that are usually marketed to women. Boots that are usually marketed to men. Clothes that are marketed to women. They like working on cars and going to the gym and going to petting zoos and dancing at clubs and kissing all sorts of people. They have an appointment set up to go on estrogen that they're scared and excited about. The people that they were the most scared to come out to are their biggest supporters.
This playlist isn't really meant to be ABOUT Tozer, it's just what they like to listen to. I tried to make it a mix of riot grrl, hardcore, metal, grunge, lesbian anthems, and sad gayboy music.
I know the @cold-boy-tapes event is over but I have one more. I made a Path of Pain mix, so an unsettling mix for what might be going through John and Magnus' heads during one of their uhhh path of pain nights and the kind of horror and euphoria and just general disturbance of those experiences. Can't really offer lyric explanations bc itâs pretty instrumental but ride with me on this one.
Hi everyone, just wanted to post my art I did for @copperphysics106's playlists for the Cold Boy Tapes event, in case anyone wanted a look at all of them. I highly recommend everyone go check out copper's playlists, (not all are listed here) they're all really wonderfully made and I hope my art was able to capture some essence of what they felt like. I wasn't given the full playlists, just a single song from each to work from.
Yes these covers are out of order here lol but here's links to all the playlists:
One Night (Hodgelittle)
What if Hickey 'succeeded' with the Tunnbaq (Hickey)
CD Mix found in Tozer's basement (Tozer)
Crying in the dark (Little)
Pick one artist and assign characters (Multiple characters) - This art was unused because I was going to make something else for it before promptly forgetting (dw copper was very forgiving) but I decided to share here anyhow.
Commute home (Hickey)
Thankyou again to @copperphysics106 for trusting me to make them art for this event. I'm absolutely atrocious at playlists, so I was happy to participate even in a small way. :)

And this is my last playlist- I wanted to take another crack at an Edward Little playlist. I wanted to make a Tozer one to accompany this, but I never found the time, so I suppose to playlist fans look forward to hearing that in the future whenever I get to it.
This is a playlist that is inspired by my dear @bossboo - it's a long playlist that I imagine vanlife traveling musician Morfin puts on when he's gotta go through the night but it can really be an any time driving playlist.
Boo influenced a bit of this, I influenced a bit of this, my friend @kelpywheat influenced a bit of this, and bones on spotify influenced this (bones on spotify i'm sorry i forget who you are now but I think about you all the time still, I can still sort of remember your discord pfp maybe) - together we are shaping and mapping what Morfin can and could be listening to <3 and that's so special to me.
My contribution to @cold-boy-tapes , which I forgot I actually had to post for it to be seen. Obviously, I had to choose my favourite niche side character that only me and maybe two other people care about. The playlist is as follows:
1. Seasons in The Sun- Black Box Recorder
2. I'm Eighteen- Creed
3. Big City Blues- ...So Goes The Nation
4. Groan- Dazey and the Scouts
5. Dead Boys- Sam Fender
6. Friday Fighting- Sam Fender
7. Leave Fast- Sam Fender
8. Drink- Destroy Boys
9. Bullet With Butterfly Wings- The Smashing Pumpkins
10. Them Bones- Alice in Chains
11. All I Need- Radiohead
12. Lonely Day- System of a Down
13. All These Things That I've Done- The Killers
14. Local Boy in the Photograph- Stereophonics
15. Mess Me Around- The Babies
16. Pumped Up Kicks- Foster the People
17. I Get No joy- Jade Bird
18. Smile Like You Mean It- The Killers
19. Mama's Boy- Dominic Fike
20. Army Dreamers- Kate Bush
21. Forwards beckon rebound- Adrianne Lenker
22. Indygar- Adrianne Lenker
23. Spit- show me the body
24. Placing the blame- Self
25. Child Psychology- Black Box Recorder

40. Sea, Swallow Me- Cocteau Twins
41. This is how it feels- Inspiral Carpets
42. Twighlight- BĂŽa
43. Every day is exactly the same- Nine Inch Nails
This playlist is kind of based on vibes alone, and I clearly got caught up in said vibes.
These are 28 songs I'd send back in time on an ipod to Magnus Manson as portrayed in the terror 2018, either that or he's time traveling here and I think he'd dig these songs and maybe even relate to them. A soft launch of sorts of a series I keep playing around with. for @cold-boy-tapes
Hi everyone! I'm going to try to wrap up the @cold-boy-tapes event today (mainly just posting a big wrap up post to thank everyone who participated and still will be! after all, we have so many wonderful playlists to listen to now) but I'm also trying hard to finish and post my own playlists (it feels very goofy to be late to my own event).
I wanted to share a selection of songs that I've been enjoying & have found that are from artists/bands from arctic regions- mostly found through musician hopping, a bit of luck, and also the really wonderful Pan Arctic Vision which is a music event where bands/musicians from arctic regions come together to celebrate and share the joy of music. This year's Pan Arctic Vision will be livestreamed on October 2nd btw.
if there are any inaccuracies in terms of where the artists are from, I apologize

There Will Never Be Another You - Rickie Lee Jones
Friends Who Kiss - Eloise
From Paris With Love (Single Version) - Melody Gardot
Molina - Carmen Villain
For day six, I replaced the prompt with this one. I've always wanted to make a playlist with genderbent Hodgving (my names for them are Grace (George) and Jane (John)) purely because of the song bad idea, this event just gave me an excuse to do so! I normally don't explain too much, but just so you have an idea of what's going on if you decide to listen:
Jane visits France for about a week, and meets Grace on the afternoon of her last night, who is playing piano on her lonesome in a city hall (first song). After that, Grace takes Jane around the city, sneaking into orchestral performances, and they hook up for the night. Almost all songs are from Grace's perspective I would say, except for bad idea lol, because Jane I imagine feels a lot guilt and shame for doing it. I wanted the playlist to have this feeling at first of the typical romance in France, which feels more sensible; then in the middle of the playlist, the songs get more personal and in their heads as they get closer to hooking up. Of course, after they've spent the night together, Jane has to go home (both out of necessity and guilt).
Thank you so much again to @futuristicdoormats789 for the art for this one, it's probably my favourite out of them! I had them listen to blushing! and didn't want to reveal too much except it was about two genderbent Terror characters hooking up. They said they wanted the art to look like a 'lesbian daydream'.
cold boy tapes, day 1: crying in the dark (Goodsir)
i made a Goodsir-focused playlist for day 1 of @bell-swamp-fitzjames's playlist event, @cold-boy-tapes! this is inspired by the end of Goodsir's arc in the show â morfin's death, mutiny camp, and deciding his own fate.
Playlist · 10 Songs
playlist icon credit to @normalmammal! tracklist + some lyrics with "liner notes" under the cut âąáŽâą
i associate this track with the despair and some of the anger Goodsir must have felt during the last two episodes of the show. there's a bitter edge to some of the song, especially the second half, that reminds me of the edge in some of Goodsir's dialogue in the later episodes (i.e. his sarcastic "good" in response to Crozier's request to cut open Irving; the lack of comfort he offers Gibson at mutiny camp, especially in contrast to how he spoke to David Young at the start of the series; his initial refusal at Hickey's orders to butcher Gibson).
please, could you stay awhile to share my grief?
for it's such a lovely day
to have to always feel this way
and the time that i will suffer less
is when i never have to wake
wandering stars, for whom it is reserved
the blackness, the darkness, forever...
the chorus of the song is also a reference to scripture â Jude 1:13, part of a description of the fates of false teachers and ungodly men: "raging waves of the sea, foaming out their own shame; wandering stars, to whom is reserved the blackness of darkness for ever." to me, this connects to Goodsir's implied disagreement with Crozier's insistence in episode 10 that he is clean despite everything, and the feelings of crushing moral failure that he carries with him ("if ever i was a doctor, i am one no longer").
i also really wanted to include this song because a) it's my favorite portishead song, and b) to shout out the fucking amazing edit Cig made to this song last year!
not - big thief
i love the spiraling nature of this song. the lyrics grapple with ineffability, being unable to articulate what's being experienced. dealing with and witnessing things that cannot be explained is connected to Goodsir from the start of the series with the death of David Young, so this felt like a fitting pick.
not to die
not dying
not to laugh
not lying
not the vacant wildness vying
drawn to the blood - sufjan stevens
debated a lot about which sufjan song to include here (guy who cannot resist the urge to put a sufjan stevens song in a sad playlist), but decided to go with this one because of the chorus:
for my prayer has always been love
what did i do to deserve this?
i imagine Goodsir reflecting on the Expedition here, especially after butchering Gibson.
there's also a reference to dragons in the fourth verse, which neatly ties to another song on this album, "no shade in the shadow of the cross" that is featured on my Collins playlist of a similar kind. couldn't resist the tidy connection there.
real house - adrianne lenker
at some point, Goodsir must have yearned for his family back home and thought back to his childhood. that's what i think of with this song.
We moved into a real house
A wild field behind it
I wanted to be an inventor
Collected scraps to make a portal
I wanted so much for magic to be real
younger & dumber - indigo de souza
Goodsir's ability to find wonder and experience curiosity throughout the Expedition is one of the many reasons i love his character. as horrible things keep happening and he's unable to save the people around him, though, i imagine this side of him wavering, and him internally struggling with that â maybe even hating himself a little for being so naĂŻve. i connect bits of this song to that, as well as the exhaustion that he must have felt being constantly in demand to care for others around him, especially after Carnivale.
verse 3 in particular for me connects to the scene in the tent following Morfin's death, where Goodsir is being comforted by Silna.
Sometimes I just don't wanna be alone
And it's not cause I'm lonely
It's just 'cause I get so tired of filling
The space all around me
And the love I feel is so powerful
It can take you anywhere
And the love I feel is so very real
It'll drag you down...
small hands - keaton henson
keaton henson is a Goodsir-coded artist, imo. i picked this song in particular because of these lines:
miss you terribly already,
miss the space between your eyelids
where i'd stare through awkward sentences
and void through awkward silence
and the refrain:
and i,
i hope for your life
you can forget about mine,
forget about mine...
i imagine Goodsir thinking about/speaking to Silna, here. the song references a breakup and lingering feelings about an ex, but with Goodsir and Silna, it feels much bigger than that.
i think of the "awkward sentences/awkward silence" as a nod to them learning how to communicate with each other earlier in the series. the refrain could be Goodsir feeling guilt about the horrible things that have happened since he's/the Expedition's entered Silna's life, and a parting wish that she can forget about him/them, somehow.
of course, Silna couldn't possibly forget the trauma she's endured, but a naĂŻve wish like that feels fitting to Goodsir's character, too.
a burning hill - mitski
my absolute favorite goodsir-focused edit by the amazing @guiildenstern is to this song. the lyrics directly reference Goodsir's final actions in episode 10, expressing his exhaustion and meeting his limit:
today i will wear my white button-down
i'm tired of wanting more
i think i'm finally worn
and how he uses his own death and body as a final act of justice, to poison Hickey and the other mutineers:
i am a forest fire
and i am the fire, and i am the forest
and i am a witness watching it
last words of a shooting star - mitski
this is a companion song to a burning hill here, and mainly references Goodsir's tidy ritual of "washing" and dressing himself before taking his own life.
and i am relieved that i'd left my room tidy
goodbye...
tears in the typing pool - broadcast
broadcast is my favorite band! i decided to close with this (selfishly - everyone go listen to broadcast NOW) mainly because of the ending lyrics:
the page turns on me and you
across that white plain
the land is unchanged.
all the love in the world for Cig for running this event. see y'all for day 2! ˶ᔠᔠá”˶
Iâve been seeing all the playlists for @cold-boy-tapes float by and got inspired. I donât have anything that fits any of the prompts, so Iâm not joining the challenge per se, but I do have something to share - a while ago someone made a text post about how shipping playlists all used the same songs and bands. So I set myself a challenge to make some unique playlists for different relationships, not reusing any songs (though I did reuse artists) and not using any of the songs/artists that tumblr user was sick of seeing (I donât remember which ones that was).
Playlists under the cutâŠ
Two popular pairings, one more niche - shanât say who they are; I think itâs obvious. Guess if youâd like, and tell me if I successfully created three different playlists for different dynamics⊠I think theyâve got different vibes, but itâs all got the shared vibe of âmusic Soz listens to on the regularâ, so đ€·
(Also I have been overthinking every decision re. song choice and order so if you want a monologue about any of this, DM me)
Very Much:
1. No Children (The Mountain Goats) 2. All We Ever Wanted Was Everything (MGMT) 3. Too Drunk to Dream (The Magnetic Fields) 4. White Words (Eliza Rickman) 5. Jumalaga! (PĂ€rt Uusberg) 15. And Just Like That (Abel Korzeniowski) 16. Iâm Still Here (Tom Waits)
Itâs Difficult Right Now:

Welcome to Silna: Rock Dad, my Silna playlist for @cold-boy-tapes!
->~[Youtube Playlist Link!]~<-
I tied myself into a pretzel trying to put this together (and I made all my images way too small on accident, fuckshitdamnfuck) so I'll try to keep it brief. Silna; she/him, he/him, they/them; canon; songs I'd hear on my local classic rock radio station (plus one). I wanted songs that touched on Silna's loss, but also humor and playfulness.
Track List:
Carry On Wayward Son by Kansas
The Fool On The Hill by The Beatles
Turn the Page by Bob Seger
Who Are You by The Who
Sister Golden Hair Surprise by America
California Dreamin' by The Mamas & The Papas
Goodbye Stranger by Supertramp
Wayfaring Stranger by Burl Ives
This playlist exists because of inspiration from: @glaciergore who is one amazing correspondent, @willowbilly whose trans goodsilna fic is all wonderful, and @orlopsexdungeon who did a really cool graphic for their Hickey folk playlist.

COLD BOY TAPES DAY SEVEN: OBSCURE CHARACTER WITH DR. PEDDIE
Last day of @cold-boy-tapes !!! This has been such a delight + joy to participate in !!!!!!!!!
Man. Somehow I have begun caring abt Peddie. To the point where I made two playlists for him today.
The first one (I Think Something's Wrong With My Pharmacist) is what I imagine him listening to in like. The airpod he's not supposed to have in while working at the pharmacy. I am picturing him doing the absolute bare minimum at his job. Only talking if absolutely necessary. Perhaps showing up to work high. Swiping drugs. Listening to his scary music. I love him.
The second one (đđ¶đ đ¶âđ«ïž) I am imagining is what he's listening to when he's absolutely in outer space. He comes home from work, puts on a calliope album, takes some stolen drugs, + goes VOICE OFF!
Sigh. Kicks a rock. I don't knowwwwww
Anyway. Thanks everyone who listened to any of these playlists or shared em. This has been such a treat!!!!! + Thank you for hosting dear cig.
Listen to both playlists in order! Tracklist below the cut.

Tomorrow is Father's Day (in the USA) so I absolutely had to make a playlist for The Most Important Dad In The Terror, Aja. I miss my Dad who passed away a little over six years ago, so a lot of my thoughts of Aja is inspired by my own Dad. I also imagine this playlist is a mix of what Aja listened to and what Silna listens to when she wants to remember him and cry a little.
