So I'm now through phase 2 of each of the Seeds - I'm making a point of swapping from area to area rather than focusing on one at a time - and as a Native Montanan (in both the literal and figurative sense), I have... some thoughts
The total lack of Native characters is utterly egregious. There is one named one (Wheaty), in Jacob's section. The part of Montana they're implying this is happening in has a reservation right in the middle of it (of the 7 + 1 landless in the state), and there are easily five tribes within a few hours' traveling distance (with 12 total in the state alone). Montana is one of THE main states known for how prevalent the Indigenous people still are, come the fuck on.
My sense of disbelief is getting pushed quite a bit with just... how much violence is getting perpetrated. Secretly smuggling in guns for ages, sure, fine, but things like the Cook, which was implied to have started years before? Ain't no way. It's the middle of nowhere, yeah, but there were multiple witnesses. And they are OUT-OF-TOWNERS. Shit would have cracked down on Eden's Gate MUCH sooner, and it would not have been a small team of local cops + a single US Marshal.
Why?? Are there so many Southern accents?? That's NOT a thing! Sure, people say "y'all", but the closest thing you're gonna find to a Montana accent is vaguely Canadian. Otherwise it's just very... Midwest Everyman.
Morgan was telling me that the cult was originally supposed to be a lot more white supremacist-y, and... yeah. That tracks. Especially given that it's sort of meant to be around Whitefish. The fact that there are so many Black and Hispanic characters (and a lot of them are unnamed but in the cult) in such a rural area of Montana is... wild. It is SO white up there, you guys.
We were musing on it and it would have made a lot more sense for the sections to kind of lean more towards what that sibling would attract? John would get the young and hip crowd, more diverse, the "California Republicans" as it were. Jacob would get the vets and Racial Purity types. Faith would get majority women, full families, and, well... simps.
Now, all that said, I am having fun playing it. Stealth is enjoyable. I'm a monster with a bow. Sharky and Jess are my go-to team, but the Fangs For Hire were absolutely my first recruits.
I need to draw her(/them), but my Deputy's name is Ashwiyaa Sanderson. Given the subject, I figured it would be fun to have my little she/they come from my rez, even though it's a bit of a drive from western Montana. Totally makes sense if she'd gone to U of M in Missoula.
Nnnooot sure yet what NPC they'd end up involved with. Still musing on it.
