Hi, meet Hana Vao. She’s new to Hope County, new to her job as Junior Deputy, and she’s trying her best, darn it. In town for all of two weeks before things go to hell, she’s not sure she’s the hero the county deserves or needs, but is determined to do whatever it takes to fight back as long as she’s up on her feet and breathing.

After kicking around the idea of it for a little while (and reading some excellent takes on it here and at AO3) I wanted to explore the potential dynamic between Sharky, Hana, and John post-game, and ended up falling in love with it as a result. Basically the best kind of excuse to write happy, fluffy smutty stuff that I’m hoping to connect to Hana’s main series, and add more to in the future as well!

We could make a home out of this

The Sharky/John No Cult AU that’s slowly become one of my favorite things to write over the last six months or so. Starting with I won’t ask for much, it was originally written for the FC5/ND Holiday Exchange in December of 2019 as a gift for the excellent finefeatheredgamer here on Tumblr, and it’s taken on a life of its own ever since. Even though there’s only a couple of extra fics added to the series so far, there’s at least four others lying in wait that I’m hoping to finish soon, all of which either take place during the main fic or after.

27. your favorite part of the writing process

Writing dialogue! It can be so much fun to work with, and even better when it flows and you can feel those voices shining right through.

I’ll admit that relearning some of the more distinct ones after stepping away from it all can be pretty heartbreaking, though, especially when it’s not immediately clicking. But it's a process, and if a few more cycles are needed, I just need to try and get the gist of it down. Or try again at the magic hour and see how things flow when there’s less pressure. Writing during that time of night’s been the best for relieving any added nerves that might be kicking in, and it's saved me a bunch of times when I keep hitting my head against something that's just not working.

28. your least favorite part of the writing process

Editing. :'D Especially when you’re impatient like me and want to post it all already.

Outside of that, since she's no fighter pilot, and doesn't have an advanced degree in any science-related field, she was about this close to being a firefighter instead! A lot of what drew her to her current job was her mother being in law enforcement herself, and in a way wanting to see if she could honor her and/or better understand her. She didn't want to go so far as to join the military - her mother would've stayed in longer if she hadn't been expecting her - but at the very least wanted to give this route a try.
