restless spirits
[ID: Animated rendered art of multiple pinned butterflies in a frame. Their wings shiver slightly, and spectral white butterflies flap their wings along the edges of the frame. Shadow cuts over one corner of the frame, making two of the three butterflies glow brightly in the darkness. End ID]
[scoffs] You couldn't PAY me to jack off to Brian Griffin! [remembers the state of the economy] Well, you could, but it would have to be a four figure amount. [remembers to be honest to myself] Three figures. [remembers not to devalue my own labor] Four figures.

unfortunately i can never hate on a "power of friendship" narrative no matter how corny because the thing is it's literally real

I never really thought of myself as a person that likes to exercise or do sports, that is, before I discovered the joys of cycling. Holy shit. Oh my dace. Cycling is fucking amazing. It’s such a versatile activity!!! I can choose to cycle around the city to explore all the sights much faster and easier, just meandering around, I can choose to cycle long distance to someplace new or old, I can choose to cycle a certain route as fast as I can! Not only do I get the benefit of moving fast from point A to point B but I also get to savour all the sights around me, hear the birds, feel the wind on me, smell the flowers, take it all in. And if all that wasn’t just the best thing in the world already good cod does it just feel good to cycle. Really straining to reach a certain speed or going uphill makes me feel so alive. It makes my blood flow! And the feeling in my legs right after I’ve finished my route, AUGHHHH I live for that feeling, I really do. All my life I’ve felt like a wimp who could never reach the expected level of fitness if my life depended on it but when I cycle I feel so strong! I feel so capable! It’s amazing! I found My Sport and on cod I hope everybody finds theirs
Basically just finished cycling 35 km which is longer than I’ve ever gone before! My legs are cooked pasta but omg. That was amazing. I felt like a fucking tuna fish!!!!!!! I was indomitable!!!!!!!!! It’s hard to stop to have a drink because I just want to keep going forever and ever and ever…..
New year, new me and a new record of 50 km achieved :] Will not be my last! The indomitable tuna fish will rise again!!
Yep, the frame mounts for water bottles are not some racing thing, I found out that I can't just be arsed stop to drink and end up going on thirsty, where as at least the front one is easy to operate while riding and when it's empty, at that point it might be a good idea to stop to stretch or something. (I don't know about which kinds of plastics kills you most these days, but those Camelbaks at least taste better than random bottles)
Also, as 150 km is basically 50 km three times in a row, doable form most people with surprisingly little training, as the bicycle is one of the most efficient means of transport and it is easy to pull the speed of Marathon runner's world record for hours and hours. However: you must eat, preferably even before you get hungry. Sounds obvious but even experienced riders are sometimes fooled to think there's some mechanical problem when bike just stops going as it should. Nope, it's the engine.
This is so reminiscent of my story. I was a big, awkward kid. Big for my age and lacking the quickness and hand/eye coordination that makes you good at many sports. By the time I reached my teens, I had thoroughly internalized the idea that I was "bad at sports".
Then, at 18, I started using a bike for transportation for environmental reasons. And began to discover what I was actually good at: Endurance. Did several seasons of bike racing, rode century and double-century rides (100 and 200 mile days), ran many marathons, and just generally discovered the joy of moving my body under its own power. Now, in my mid-70s, the bike is still my first choice for local transportation and provides much of my exercise and recreation.
